You really think he will make 33 starts next year? He isn't exactly Mark Buehrle. He averaged 5.4 innings per start in AA, and 5.25 this season. Getting it up to 6 in the major leagues next year might happen, but it doesn't seem realistic. That's one reason I don't think the innings thing is that big of a deal. Plus, the White Sox have a history of getting guys to increase their load in a year. Check Sale, Garland, Danks.

That is 30 starts at 6 innings. I would bet against it, unless he really has found some command, and it isn't just close enough for lesser players to swing at.

What's ironic are those who say don't worry about service time, it's a ways off, yet complain the Sox don't spend like crazy on 15 and 16 year olds from other countries. The argument here is, this is a month and a half, where he mostly will be facing AAA line ups. We know they aren't doing anything this year, so why not roll the dice and have him wait? I do see some posts about innings. Does anyone really think Kopech is going to pitch 180 innings in 2019 at the major league level? He would have to make almost all of his starts, and average more innings per start than he ever has averaged. IMO, his innings, if he was shut down at the end of the AAA season would have been plenty to push what he is more realistic in pitching next year. Whatever. It will be interesting seeing what he can do. I just hope this month and a half doesn't haunt them in the future. We have seen pitchers get this late season look, including a White Sox Cy Young award winner, and it doesn't translate into taking off the next year.

The only thing it could screw up are those who bought tickets to see Kopech pitch. I doubt they would just skip Giolito.

I will say, if they were only going to pick one for the service time, right now, I'm glad it's Eloy.

I will give you guys credit trying to spin something positive out of a guy who leads the league in runs given up, walks and HBP.

I think the Sox have a better team record during Giolito starts than the Mets do when DeGrom starts, and his ERA is 1.71. Giolito's ERA in July was 5.28 and August 5.50. That won't get it done. The White Sox winning percentage is going to increase because the vast majority of teams they are playing aren't fighting for their playoff lives. It's teams playing out the string. They beat KC, who cares. They beat Det, who cares? They probably will be Minnesota, who cares? This 16-16 is all because they beat Tampa 3 times. Again, who cares? They play good teams, motivated, they lose. What matters are the guys that are going to be here. If the Sox win games because of guys who aren't, how does that make the rebuild closer to working?

They won 3 in Tampa, and took 2 out of 3 vs. KC and Det, 2 horrible teams. Other than that, they have continued to suck. But they should be a little better as they play teams playing out the string or pretty much having their playoff fates sealed when they play them. They always have a chance when Rodon is pitching, and Covey is either really good or really bad, but the other starters haven't really stepped it up. The bullpen, for the most part with what's there, who cares? Abreu came out of his slump, Narvaez is hitting, but is he really an answer behind the plate? Other than that, and an occassional Palka HR, I don't see what has changed.

If he were never to recover. If he does have surgery, the extra year of control in exchange for some September starts is a tremendous trade.

I put both your posts together. You said something was best for their development, then denied it. Then accusedme of saying they don’t deserve a call up, which never happened. Very strange.

No one has said they don't deserve a call up, but with where the team is, and the current rules, it makes little sense. If you had enough money yo buy exactly one lottery ticket and you were told this week's was worth $500 million but you had zero chance to win, and next week's was worth $500 k, but you did have a slight chance to win, what are you going to buy? Kopechs innings will be fine. He isn't going to go 180 innings next season anyways. The vast majority of pitchers Eloy would face in September should be in AAA, and he supposedly does not gain anything from that anyway. So save the service time. If they had a shot at a wild card, it would be a different story I get it's more likely than not the service time issue will be moot. But there is a chance it will be valuable. Far more valuable than a September call up during a rebuild.

You might want to re read what you wrote. You said if they were doing what is best for their development, Eloy would have been called up last month, and Kopech after 2 more starts.

I have examples of guys who stayed down the extra time and still were stars. I have examples of guys called up in September and shining, who wound up doing nothing in their career. If not playing in the major leagues next month is going to hurt these guys, they weren’t going to be good anyway.

That isn’t what I am saying. Dude. You are saying that not calling them up is hurting their development. Prove it. Give an example of someone who spent too much time in the minor leagues. Someone who would have been a building block had they just beeen called up in September. I can list guys who were great in September and sucked when the bell rang for spring training. These guys have taken their Septembers off their entire professional careers. Kopech even served a lengthy suspension, yet, somehow, some way they are still considered elite prospects. They still were able to develop. I don’t know how, but I think it’s a sign they will be OK if they go home in a couple of weeks and show up at Soxfest in January. Calling them up now would be a waste. Meaningless games, many against teams similarly situated, makes them basically spring training games. They might get something out of it, but nothing that would leave them far behind next year, especially if they are as good as you think. Sending them home is a small price to pay for the extra control. And as long as they perform well, that extra year will be quite valuable whether the team is good or bad at that point. They would either be huge pieces of a contender or trade bait. Now, they would be playing glorified spring training games.

So Moncada, Giolito, and Lopez would have been far less advanced this season had they spent another month in the minor leagues. Is it detrimental to all prospects when their season is over the first week of September? I have seen seen so many prospects called up in September over the years. Some excelled, some were horrible, but what I never really saw was that call up being the catalyst to a great career. It sounds nice and all for people who want to whine they didn’t see these guys, but there really are no examples of guys not playing September baseball for a non contender costing them valuable development .

Ozzie mentioned his body language as well. Says it doesn't look like he enjoys himself playing. I still think he will be alright, and think some of the body language is because he's not used to having a hard time playing baseball. But it is worth noting, this guy got paid before he became a major leaguer. The motivation may not be as great, and it would only be natural.

I think Dioner Navarro was the worst. He was unbelievably bad. I would watch on TV and see the pitch trax but would never be upset the umpire called it a ball. Omar is up there. Maybe he gets better. He didn't seem this bad last year. Even if his bat is for real, I don't see how a contending team can have him catch.

Kind of weird we haven't heard a peep about Wellington Castillo. If you look at the quotes after his suspension was announced, it didn't seem like the team was going to move on. Maybe because how Narvaez and Smith have been hitting, they just may give Beef some more time off. Edit, our Chuck had something about him. He's working out and will return.

Personality wise, Q and Sale seem to be on the opposite ends of the spectrum. One thing they have in common is they seemed very respected and admired by their teammates. As questionable some of the things Sale said and did may have been, you didn't hear anything bad about him when he was here or after he left. To be their best, some guys have to be Bjorn Borg, some guys have to be John McEnroe.

Which is interesting, because when he ever blew a lead, it was always the manager's fault. Now that he is on another team, he is a talented, hot headed, mental midget., good riddance. The guy is awesome. Get over it White Sox fans.
