They were dogshit because they went half assed. If they are going to spend like a lot of posters here think they are going to spend, frontline starters, lockdown relievers, Manny Machado, if they would have done that when they had guys like Sale and Q and Eaton signed cheaply, they would have been just fine.

Sleep well. Despite NK describi g their meeting with SOS Pompeo as cancerous, troubling, gangster like, that is just deep state fake news. Progress has been made on every issue, give Trump a Nobel Peace Prize, for he is a great and honorable man.

2018-2019 Official NBA thread

It’s a move they backed themselves into a corner and had to make. They still have space for one star, and probably could make it for 2 if that was needed. I am thinking it won’t be needed, unless they brought in a new decision maker. Jimmy isn’t coming back let alone bring Kyrie with him. All those others will sign somewhere else. The Bulls as long as the same clowns are in place, will be used and abused by players and agents. I don’t think Lavine will ever reach his potential, but I do think the odds are way better he develops into a star than the Bulls signing 2 max guys. -

Maybe, but GarPax chose this lane.the lane of “developing” players. Forget that in this league 99% of the time you are what you are at Lavines point. The fact is they made him out to be a star when they acquired him. Told him to take his time in rehab then come back with all these restrictions and seemingly soured on him when he wasn’t Michael Jordan. He will be better than he was, and GarPax is looking to make the playoffs. No more tanking. They are about development. What would it say if they gave up on trying to develop their most athletic player because he wasn’t all star caliber after a long layoff and minutes restriction? They did what they had to do. Chances are it won’t work out. It is something everyone except GarPax can see coming forever, just like next year when they get trumped for free agents by the Lakers and Sixers. -
1 team out of 30. the fact is you cannot have 30 great teams. There isn’t enough talent. Some of these rebuilds will go on for decades. Sox we just have to hope one of them isn’t the White Sox. Here’s a link to the 2014 farm systems. The Twins had 8 top 100 guys. Getting really bad is no guarantee of getting really good. Just go down the list and read about breakout prospects, prospects you have to see... 4 years later you haven’t heard of most of them. https://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/article/22906/prospects-will-break-your-heart-2014-organizational-rankings/

Dick Allen replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in 2018 Season in Review
Everyday Hector feeling the effects of being overused. all the Sox have to do after tonight’s loss is play .500 the rest of the season and they will equal last year’s record. -

The White Sox haven’t fired a manager in 15 years. No way they fire Rickey for this team losing. He is probably in over his head, but he isn’t getting fired unless a situation similar to Maddon being available occurs. -

Vinnie Goodwill hinting Lavine is about to sign an offer sheet probably around $20 million a year. -
Irrational fondness of a player who completely sucks

This thread basically shows how bad the Sox system was for a long time. If you believed in a position prospect, you were only going to be disappointed. -

Beckham was definitely the guy I thought wouldn't fail. One guy I remember a lot of people being up in arms KW traded was Brandon Allen. He didn't get much for him, but it turns out he wasn't much. Someone guaranteed all star games for him. Maybe in the softball league he is probably now playing. -
President Donald Trump's resort, Mar-a-Lago, filed a request to the Department of Labor for 61 additional visas for foreign servers and cooks, according to a Job Order Records filed on Thursday and Friday. Just a warning if you happen to be going to Mar a Lago. They are not sending their best.

It's at River East for me. Moviepass tomorrow.

Obviously it's not all you hope for, but you have to be realistic. If being bad for 5 years is a guarantee for years upon years of greatness, everyone would do it, and not every team can be successful at the same time. It's a zero sum game. The White Sox will always have the Yankees and the Red Sox throwing big money at their problems. If winning the WS consistently was fairly simple, someone would actually do it. They should be able to dominate their division like Cleveland, Minnesota and Detroit have all done at various points. Even KC had a decent stretch, considering the advantages they have over their division opponents, but then you get to the playoffs and who knows how that will go. Besides, if they had made the playoffs those other years if it was formatted as it is now, you can't say they wouldn't have won.

One postseason appearance when 4 teams total made it. They were in the playoffs with the current format in 1990 and 1994 if no strike.

Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again

Whether you want to think they are cheap or not, if you're a White Sox fan, you should want them to make as much as possible these days so they have the funds to keep it going if the winning ever commences, because consistent winning gets really expensive quickly. And there's no guarantee the turnstiles will be humming when that happens. -
You never know with young players. Back in 1990, the Sox thought they would suck. They were shooting for the rebuid to mean winning when they opened their new park. It came early. Look at the Twins. They looked like they were going to be really good, then 2 years ago, awful. Last year, a nice snapback, now back to mediocre, and minor league stints for 2 guys that were supposed to be cornerstones. Hopefully it all works out for our guys, but you can't be sure. For a game whose numbers and projections are based on very linear things, it really isn't very linear.

One thing the Astros and Cubs did differently than the White Sox was they focused on position players and added pitching. The Sox have a lot more higher end pitching prospects.

Forbes also wrote they made $30 million in profit. Whether that is accurate or not, we really don't know. But back in the day, they used to raise the payroll pretty close to the amount Forbes said was their profit. -
Also don't forget Theo came in 2nd place for James Shields and Anibal Sanchez. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. Also, if Jesse Crain passes a physical and Arrieta is a White Sox, is Theo still the boy wonder on the Northside? I don't think they win without Arrieta.

You can bet the house on the South.

Whether you are rebuilding or not, losing a lot of games should count, considering draft position. The one benefit you get to a full out rebuild is playing guys you never would have played, and maybe finding something. The Sox system was so bad, missing out on that really didn't do any damage.
-
Looking at the free agent class that was supposed to be world class, you look at it now, if Harper or Machado isn't realistic, there are a few relievers, who you supposedly aren't supposed to spend a lot of money, and a suddenly huge question mark in Josh Donaldson, and the rest is pretty much a bunch of crap.
