  1. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 02:38 PM) Maybe we should forfeit our 1st rounder because of the Gordon Beckham pick. We have problems with our 1st round pick success so lets start with the 2nd round. I never understand the logic of selecting further back because of stupidity in the past. Lets go further back because of stupid decisions in the past. I am sure other teams would value having 3 picks in the top 50. I'm sure a lot of teams would like 2 picks in the top 50 and Dexter Fowler.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) Yep, only other possibility could be Soler possibly to Indians, but that doesn't seem nearly as likely Francona was on MLBN a week or so ago. He was pretty adamant they weren't trading any of their rotation.
  3. Something is either going to have to go really wrong for the White Sox or really right for Cleto for him to be wearing White Sox pinstripes at USCF in 2016.
  4. QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) And why does he keep bringing up Desmond? 180 strikeouts and 20plus errors a year for a team that already has too many strikeouts and errors is insane. Desmond is poster child for what's wrong with us. His name should not even be mentioned in the same sentence with the SOX. PERIOD! If it gets reported the Sox are one of the finalists for Desmond, he will agree with you.
  5. So the Blue Jays hat looks like a Maple Leafs hat. That can't be good.
  6. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) Eaton RT'd someone saying that they wouldn't be surprised if they wore these jerseys during the season. I would be surprised. I think you have to give notice to MLB months in advance to wear something during the season. Maybe they did this, but the AZ things on them make me think they wouldn't wear these during the season. Besides, they already have black tops.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 12:20 PM) Back to the topic at hand, I like that they separated the batter logo from the block SOX. I hate the block SOX logo from the 80's. The batter logo actually looks pretty smooth on its own. I like the block Sox. The batter logo with nothing underneath it looks about as finished as Rick Hahn's current offseason. Maybe it is just that I am used to the other, but that batterman logo sure has been making quite the comeback the past several years.
  8. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 12:20 PM) I'm guessing they are going to be selling these right? Isn't that the real reason for new uniforms?
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) Who cares what WSI thinks? They do their thing, we do ours. Plenty of room for both. I think it's funny because here people seem to really like them. There, one positive comment, then all negative.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) Sorry for the noob question, but what is the difference between WSI and SoxTalk? WSI is about 95% moaners. Don't want to derail this thread, but complaining is what they do best.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 09:38 AM) They just dont seem to know how to recruit well at all, there needs to be change. There are plenty of good players in IL/WI/IN and OH that they could have easily if they stayed in touch and made those connections. It really doesnt take much to have the best class in the BIG West and thats the first step to winning your division. Exactly. Iowa had 8 four star recruits on their roster this past season.
  12. They are already moaning about these on WSI.
  13. The problem with Jackson is he is a Boras guy, and those aren't easy negotiations unless you are willing to pay a lot of money. Boras has no problem waiting until spring training and beyond. If you are willing to meet his price, you can have a press conference tomorrow. But that isn't going to be the bargain we all were hoping for.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 10:51 AM) Wow, then they should be able to use all those safeguards to easily entice a good hitter once every ten years, lol. Whatever...but I'm sure your confidence (that has nothing to do with Don Cooper since he sucks according to you) in keeping our pitching staff healthy year after year will be borne out. There it is. No reply so the Don Cooper card. Find one post where I said he sucks. What's next, Gordon Beckham? Your posts just make me laugh. You refuse to fact check anything.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) If you're going to value war at $7-8 million, the Desmond and Jackson are no brainers, too. The problem is the White Sox won't get that same deal from Boras on Rodon, and everyone in baseball thinks it would be dangerous to offer it to Fulmer. Now you are arguing in favor of the deals you said are bad. Are you trying not to make sense? So far, long term extensions to pitchers are bad. But Sale, Quintana? Still bad, do you really think Buster Olney would have it wrong. You wait until 1 year before they become free agents to offer extensions, because...John Danks. John Danks was extended one year before he became a free agent. But Sale and Quintana, what if they get hurt. Yes, but the Sox have safeguards in the contracts in case of those events. Still dumb, and Boras will never give you that for Rodon. So according to you, he is doing the White Sox a favor. It would be stupid locking him up to a contract that bought out free agent years because....John Danks. No sense at all and now flipping to the other side. It is hysterical.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 10:33 AM) And your point that Quintana and Sale are great bargains and will never get injured, therefore disproving Olney...right? How can you possibly argue that until they both successfully reach the end of their 5th seasons? I suppose you're also a fortune teller? The have already saved money with Sale. You can argue he is no bargain, and everyone will laugh at you, but again, if you look at the facts, Sale and Q can be bought out the final 2 years for $1 million. So once again, you are way off. Don't let facts stop you Caulfield, those were clearly misguided extensions. They should be like the Royals and spend $70 million on Ian Kennedy.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) Ummmm....Buster Olney said it, so he doesn't make sense. Once again, he's attributing someone else's words, but I doubt he even took the time to read what Olney wrote in the first place without jumping to conclusions. Go back to the original article and read the third paragraph. I never once brought up Sale and Quintana, and neither did Olney. The Sox mistake with John Danks is a lot closer to the situation he wrote that paragraph about...in terms of risk-aversion with pitchers at that point in their careers. Make sense now? Read post #9 and explain how that has anything to do with what Olney said....it's strawman stuff. No the John Danks mention makes no sense because guess who was 1 year away from free agency when he signed an extension? Don't sign pitchers to extensions until one year before the become free agents or else you will have a John Danks situation. You know, the guy that signed an extension one year before he became a free agent. Caulfied ripping the White Sox with made up facts, take 10,156.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) Weren't you the one who just posted that the players playing time hadn't changed since last year? Butler's hasn't. Rose and Noah were on limits. If the Thibs playing time is what killed them, why are they doing it again, and where is the outrage? I read numerous times on this board about Thibs and minutes. Haven't read much of it when he was gone, yet the players still get hurt. Noah missed games before Thibs, with Thibs, and after Thibs. Same with Hinrich and whoever else pre dated the Thibs era. If playing time really was the killer some say it is, Tim Duncan wouldn't still be around. Michael Jordan would have missed a heck of a lot more games, and he practiced just as hard as anyone as well. GarPax definitely had a problem with playing time and practice time. Now all of a sudden, not so much.
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) I agree with everything you said, but I disagree with you thinking that Mirotic's appendicitis is due to this... appendicitis is not an injury sustained via physical activity like a torn ACL or a sore hamstring I'm not, but if you look at the Bulls roster, the same guys who people said were getting hurt because Thibs played them too much are still getting hurt. They have an injury plagued roster. I understand this is a freak thing, and has nothing to do with basketball. I was responding to the post that was mocking people who don't believe GarPax is doing a great job saying they would blame the injury on them.
  20. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 08:21 AM) Appendicitis is not "an injury". There's nothing a coach can do to prevent that. Also, tell us more about your fantasy land where minutes from previous seasons have no effect on current performance. We'll wait. Phil Jackson rode Jordan and Pippen harder than Thibs ever ran anyone. Check out Tim Duncan's minutes early in his career. No need to wait. Gar/Pax rules. The reason the team doesn't win championships is because of the coaches THEY HIRE. That is clearly not their fault. And before you tell me I don't know how the NBA runs, I do. I know it's not like baseball. Making the playoffs and losing in the first couple of rounds, even if you do it 10 years in a row, isn't so special in the NBA.
  21. Signing Q and Sale to their extensions probably saved the White Sox, assuming they were to keep them, close to $100 million. Just dumb, right Caulfield? They would have been much smarter moving the fences back, getting 3 elite defensive OF, and signing Ian Kennedy for $70 million.
  22. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 09:03 AM) I don't see where exactly I argued it isn't. Just saying it really only buys 2 years of control. It is a steal and everyone here knows it. Just acknowledging that he will still get paid. But it saved a ton of money. If the Sox did what Caulfield says is stupid, it would have cost them a lot more.
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 08:44 AM) When he becomes a free agent, a s***load. He's still in for a big payday. Buying out two years isn't changing that. I think they bought out 3. And it changes it a lot. It keeps him on the team, and he is pitching for less than half the amount he would be paid had he not signed the extension. Not only that, but if he blows something out, the team has $1 million buyouts, so there is hardly any risk. And he would have been paid more for his arb years. Waiting until a year before he becomes a free agent would have cost the White Sox over $50 million.
  24. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 08:45 AM) I can't be the only one not worried about Sale vs. the Twins this year, right? Look up his 2013 stats against the Indians, they're actually worse than his numbers against Minnesota last year. Now look up Sale's ERA against the Indians from 2014-2015, it's pretty good. If they are battering him at that clip, they must have figured how he's tipping his pitches. Fix that, and they will be lost.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 28, 2016 -> 08:42 AM) The point is to avoid situations like the Danks contract that hamstring payroll flexibility. But I'm sure you will still argue we got our money's worth, nevertheless. LMAO. Your posts really are a joke.
