Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:13 PM) Spiegel speculating Courtney Hawkins as a 4th outfielder this coming season. Turns off radio... It really is amazing guys whose profession sort of requires they know some things, are totally clueless. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:52 AM) @courtney883 I have also heard from many credible sources that the #WhiteSox are still not done. A move in the outfield could be next. Any idea who this is? -

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:47 AM) Seemed like most of them were on his slider, which to me was a better pitch than his fastball. As a starter though, he would struggle with only two pitches. Definite late-inning reliever to me. They are becoming more and more important. One thing I would worry about is his body, but you can't teach 100. -

Montas had 20 ks in 15 innings for the White Sox. That doesn't scream lack of deception. -

QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) Sigh. Montas and Trayce are painful to lose. Have to get an outfielder now. Have to have to HAVE TO. Agreed. If you are going to go for it, go for it. Frazier only gets $7.5 million. Use the Shark money to get Upton or Cespedes. -

The Sox farm system just went down a couple of pegs. I really liked Micah and Montas who was throwing 100 at a game I was at. Trayce is overrated but would be a great 4th OF. This move is fine as long as they don't stop now boys. If you go into the season like this hoping for Avi to finally discover the difference between a ball and a strike, not only do you waste Sale, Abreu, Q. You also waste half of your control with both Lawrie and Frazier. It is imperative to get another bat for the OF. -

Is this a Rick Hahn or KW production, or do we have to see how they perform to determine? -

I think Frazier is all the Sox received. Unless the Sox go all in and get Upton or Cespedes, I do not like the deal. If they do, OK. -
An alternative to the White Sox market conundrum
Dick Allen replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Keep in mind to "pay" for a $10 million a year player with new ticket sales, the White Sox would have to sell about 2500 top of the line full season tickets. There aren't 2500 top of the line seats that aren't accounted for. -

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) didn't JR in an interview last yr said that the club couldn't spend anymore, b/c the fans attending the game has improve??? that they couldn't do anymore until more fans comes out?? No he said he didn't blame the fans for not coming. That they had to provide a product worth watching. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) Yeah, sure Rich Hahn's plan after all the offseason additions was to have another protected draft pick...brilliant!!! They need to figure out a way to win, somehow....spend or develop, spend or develop...just come up with something that actually appears to be a logical plan instead of this half assed approach. That is what you want. Bad baseball and high draft picks. You get that, and you still aren't happy because that isn't what they were going for but what they did achieve. They do have more talent on the team now than they had 3 years ago, and it will continue to trend upward. I do agree they either have to spend money or trade for prospects, but all of your other complaints are just made up. The fan shaming doesn't happen. Hasn't for years. It isn't getting old. What is getting old is you using every complaint you can think of not caring about accuracy to appeal to the doom and gloomers. You really should post at WSI. Your moaning would make you a hero. They whine about everything there, from the stripes on the pants being changed, to patches on sleeves, to parking lot attendants not smiling at them, to ushers hitting on other ushers. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) You don't remember KW's can't spend $1 when you have fifty cents quote apparently? Where were you? I hate the way the franchise is being mismanaged and has become nearly irrelevant. Apparently you are in the dwindling minority that feels things are just great and no changes need to be made. Might as well go hang out with Chris Rongey in a luxury suite and sing kumbaya. That's blaming the fans? He hasn't said that in years. The team won 76 games last year. So many people act like they lose 120 games every year and complain about it, and then wonder why they can't be more like teams that do lose 100 games a year. Just think, their 76 win season got them that high draft pick you wanted them to have by tanking. So what are you moaning about? They are trying to be like the Royals and be horrible for 30 years. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) Better yet, where is there a successful professional sports franchise that blames their fans so much...more than themselves? Name one. The White Sox less than a decade ago had the tenth most valuable franchise in baseball. Where are they now? Something like 17th-19th? Now why would that be? When do the White Sox blame their fans? Why must you make so much up, and if you hate the franchise so much, why in the world do you keep posting on a White Sox message board? -
An alternative to the White Sox market conundrum
Dick Allen replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The problem I have with waiting another year is you still are going to need these pieces, and when in baseball history has the prices actually gone down a year later? I am not suggesting paying the price for Frazier, but free agents, it isn't like a guy similar to Upton will be available at half the cost next season. If you don't have the guys to trade for upgrades or you don't have or want to spend the money for upgrades, then look to start trading guys like Q and Sale and Abreu because if your reluctance continues, you will have the same issues in the future. And if you think winning 85 games in 2016 is going to make the attendance jump 500k in 2017, think again. Just remember 2012. -
I just don't see how Bryant can win his grievance. Of course he was ready to be called up 9 games earlier. Of course the Cubs used the system to their advantage, but what constitutes the guy is ready? If someone hits a certain amount of HRs or his average is at a certain level, does he have to be called up? Everyone is different. Bryant will get paid plenty if he is as good as advertised moving forward. Boras tries to extract every dollar he can. That is fine. Teams try to save every dollar they can, which is also fine.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) It is going to be very difficult to outbid the Celtics. It's the Bulls. It would be very difficult for them to realistically make an offer that would outbid any NBA team. Not that they can't, but that they won't.

QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) This may be completely false, but it does seem like many of Cuban players seem to age better than other players FWIW. And again, maybe I am just thinking of a few examples in my own head and I'm wrong. Not saying this is justification to giving Cespedes a long, big contract. But again, with no draft pick. I'd do $110 over 5 years for him. Mind you the biggest contract the Sox have ever given was to Abreu ... and that was for like half of that. Hard to see JR signing of on such a big deal when the team is constructed how it currently is.... JR went big at the time with Albert Belle, and was eventually saved with the opt out. Maybe something similar. Let Cespedes have a couple of stellar seasons and let someone else pay him during his decline. Cespedes in RF, Thompson in CF, Eaton in LF could be the best defensive OF in baseball once Gordon moves on from KC. I would rather have Upton than Cespedes because I think you are paying a bit for an outlier. But if you can get him reasonably and embrace an opt out, it could work well.

Viable Trade Candidates That Wont Cost Anderson or Fulmer?

QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 10:04 AM) As much as I have enjoyed reading about the Royals and circumcisions, the talks with the Reds have completely cooled. The Sox don't fit what he Reds want. I think that's a good thing. For a lesser price, maybe Frazier makes sense, but this isn't going anywhere for now. Jon Heyman tweeting yesterday was a Reds plant to drum up the market. Nothing to see there. This news is not surprising considering the supposedly wanted Rodon. If if they moved to what they would consider the middle, it is probably a price the White Sox shouldn't pay. Sign an OF and trade for someone else. I would much prefer Upton over Cespedes. Way more consistent and younger, although Cespedes is a bit better in the field. But the White Sox need 2 bats IMO.

If the Sox did trade for Frazier and had Saladino play SS, Alexei's buyout + Frazier's 2016 salary + Saladino's salary

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) Heyward staying with the Cardinals was roughly a 50/50 proposition (they offered more money) but that didn't happen, either. I can guarantee that Gordon stays with KC if they offer the most money, compared to the Heyward case. I will give you 4 to 1 odds. I will not post for 4 years if Gordon goes back to KC. You don't post for 1 year if he goes elsewhere. That is the low end of your odds and you weren't going to post until Ventura was fired or KW left anyway. Make the deal or stop with your BS percentages. No one cares about the Royals in the Todd Frazier thread.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:26 AM) Who exactly are you going to subtract besides Eaton, Q, Sale, Abreu and Rodon that anybody would want? David Robertson? That's more of a salary dump. We're not getting a Top 50 prospect back for him. Pocket the savings for the 2018-19 free agent class? Don't tell me you believe there's a hidden Melky Cabrera market out there. The White Sox have enough players to make the farm system one of the top farm systems in baseball if that is your thing.
