QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 08:49 AM) I wouldn't have an objection if the Brewers price him at the sub .650 OPS that he is. Of course you don't, you love bad players making little, until you realize he has a projected $3.2 million arb hit. Maybe for some teams it might make sense but for teams with similar players like Saladino and Sanchez and the top prospect being a SS, it isn't a fit.

Misc. Sox Quotes & Tweets
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 12:02 AM) So now posters are hypocrites when they disagree with you? If Avi Garcia could also play defense in RF like Segura is capable of at the most important position on the field, then it might be a relevant comparison. Last time I checked, Avi has never come close to a 4 war season and isn't capable of averaging 30 stolen bases per year either without being thrown out 15-25 times in the process of compiling those numbers. What in Juan Uribe's Colorado numbers led you to believe he would be a key cog in their World Series team at the time of that trade? He lost it...yeah...no excuses at all when you lose a child, just shrug it off and throw some dirt on it. We used the same excuse for Sox players like Dunn and Ramirez and Contreras when they had family or off-the-field issues, why doesn't it extend to players on other teams to at least consider other issues? At one point, he was the key player coming back in a Zack Greinke deal, after all. There's still talent there. His son died in July of 2014. His OPS the second half of 2013 and first half of 2014 was below .600. He put up a full season of an OPS lower than 2015 Carlos Sanchez. He actually hit better in 2014 when he came back from bereavement. Then he was back to being bad in 2015. The fact is the Sox have Saladino and Sanchez and have no need for Segura. It would make no sense for the Brewers where they are at to give him away, and no sense for the White Sox to give up something of value for a guy who has been bad for 2 1/2 years. Besides it was a guy's Twitter "hunch" his words that said a trade could be happening, and another random person's comment mentioning Segura. Maybe the Royals can trade for him. Escobar isn't a 4 WAR SS.

2015-2016 NBA Thread
QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 11:17 PM) This team does need a kick up its ass. Weird that it had to come from a player though. Hopefully Hoiberg learns. He does seem to be learning on the job. Jimmy is a Thibs guy. No reason for him to make those comments to the media. But Gar/Pax set themselves up for this. They leaked info to the press making it appear everyone was sick of playing for tyrant Thibs. We also know how the GM hiring his buddy tends to work out. It is a mismatch. Hoiberg could be a great coach and fun to play for, but the Bulls personnel doesn't seem to jive with what he wants to do. Maybe something will click here soon,,and they actually will look like they hav a shot. I don't think so though, and it wouldn't surprise me if Jimmy is trying to talk his way out of town.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 06:27 PM) Segura is so bad...the only thing going for him is his age. I had him on my fantasy team at one point and he did literally nothing for me the entire time I had him. Thank god I found someone to trade him to. Just to put it in perspective, he is a year older than Avi Garcia, and hasn't been able to hit major league pitching since Avi became a White Sox. If you don't think Avi can ever figure it out, or think Avi in RF in 2016 will be a team killer, you are being hypocritical if you think Segura is an answer. The guy has been a replacement level player except for the first half of 2013. Either teams adjusted and he couldn't, or he lost it.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 06:50 PM) Never even heard of him. Who is he employed by? Yahoo radio or something like that. He was in Milwaukee for years, I think Cleveland as well. Your typical windbag. Every team sucks, he knows the easy fix.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 05:31 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/show/sportstalk-live It's the first guy seen after Garfein in this clip. I don't think they talk about Cutler in this clip, but I hate this guy and everything he says is just completely dumb. That is Peter Brown.

Misc. Sox Quotes & Tweets
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) Obviously you believe Saladino can put up a 4ish war at age 22/23. Segura is only 25, and plays at the very least above-average defense. I guess it depends on how much you want to believe the last two seasons (where 2015 he was clearly affected by the death of his son) are more indicative of his overall ability. If you throw out that season, you'd expect around a 2 war. Of course, he has been double that and half that but terribly inconsistent so hard to predict. Perfect change of scenery candidate. Juan Uribe was "garbage" to the Rockies before they dumped him for Aaron Miles, let's not forget. Both Segura and Uribe were Rookie of the Year type players whose careers nosedived for different reasons. Is that 2 WAR a reasonable expectation for Saladino...or is closer to 0.5-1 more likely? What a guy did 2 years ago is irrelevant. It is what he will do in 2016. He has been one of the worst hitters in the NL the Second half of 2013, and all of 2014, and 2015. If a White Sox did that and they said they were sticking with him, you would loyalty is hurting the team.. I don't think switching leagues is going to help him. Saladino has potential and a good glove. At worst, he can do what Segura has done the last 400 games on Milwaukees schedule.According to Bill James he also is the 4th fastest runner into 2nd base on SB attempts only slower than Noel, Hamilton, and Dyson. No reason to give up anything for another guy that can't hit.

Misc. Sox Quotes & Tweets
The last 2 1/2 years, the guy barely has a .600 OPs. He is one of the worst hitters in baseball. No need for him unless you want him to be a back up/ PR. Just look at the second half of his breakout year 2013. A .583 OPS. 13 walks last year. If Alexei Ramirez's ABs pissed you off, this guy may send you to a hospital

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) Why would the Sox even consider Segura if Anderson is the future SS? Unless one of them is willing to make a position change, I don't see a deal for him happening. Plus it isn't really an obvious upgrade over Saladino, some people just like other teams' garbage for some reason.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
This market is starting to look like the market when the Sox were able to get Abreu. Boston, the Yankees, Dodgers all not really looking for OF. You have to figure the Cardinals will sign one of them. Washington needs a CF. If the Tigers and Angels are truly out, the earlier estimates of the contracts these OFs receive are going to look inflated.Very inflated.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) And that's fine. That's what I'd do though. They still need a player that keeps LaRoche on the bench vs LHP and it may as well be an OF so that Melky can DH Melky struggled vs. lefties last year as well. Not like LaRoche, but not very good.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
If they sign Upton or Cespedes, there is zero chance they sign Austin Jackson. Austin Jackson makes some sense if they go cheaper. He probably is a lot like Trayce Thompson defensively. His hitting is a question but he has had some good seasons. He hit well at USCF last year with the Mariners, and then was soon traded.
-
Nate Jones re-signs with White Sox
Jones was another guy who hit 100 a few times last season. A little further away from surgery, $900 k could be a steal in 2016.

Brandon Phillips NOT traded to Nationals
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) Where would they play Murphy? Wright at 3B, Cabrera at SS, and Walker at 2B. Good luck with that defense.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 11:09 AM) I agree here but where did you get the information on the bolded. One of the "insiders" on MLBN sort of mentioned it in passing one day. I can't remember if it was Heyman or Rosenthal, but I think it was Heyman.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 09:59 AM) Yea he also really talked up Samardzija to the Cubs, and Quintana to the Cubs for Baez He also staked his reputation on the White Sox signing Omar Vizquel around 2008 or so. He signed with SF.

Cespedes Re-signs with the Mets
Nightingale says Upton. I am sure they have checked in on both. I would prefer Upton, but wouldn't be sad if Cespedes is in the line up. KW went after Upton many moons ago, so I would imagine the White Sox still feel fondly about him. I also think RH and KW pretty much view most players the similarly, so if they wanted him then, Hahn probably would like to have him now. Hahn was trained by KW, you don't work together as long as they have with polar opposite philosophies. There will be differences, but not like it seems many assume. Hahn took his name out of consideration for the St. Louis job when he found out the farm director had the owner's direct ear, and could undermine the GM. That doesn't sound like a guy who would assume the Sox GM job to be a puppet. I think the White Sox preference is Upton. But the contract plays a huge roll.

Future Sox' in-depth look at the prospects sent for Frazier
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 03:17 PM) What are you going on about, Dick? Do you have a point? My point is you like to complain. It should have been obvious but you never saw him...They traded him for an All Star 3B who makes $7.5 million in 2016. Seems they did OK. Find something else to moan about.

Future Sox' in-depth look at the prospects sent for Frazier
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 03:07 PM) I never saw the guy play in the minors, how was I to know how truly terrible he was? The minute he came up I said move him to third or LF and people said he had a bad arm. Well there have been a ton of left fielders who couldn't throw a lick. Not sure why that would be a big deal. Nice answer considering this is your earlier post QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 02:12 PM) * It should have been obvious years ago that Micah would never play 2B. Not sure what they were thinking.

SP Henderson Alvarez signs with A's
Anything he provides this year is gravy. They will have control of him for another year or so with his arb status.

Future Sox' in-depth look at the prospects sent for Frazier
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 02:33 PM) Let's watch the Dodgers use him somewhere other than 2B. How come you didn't speak up about the "mishandling" of Micah earlier?

2016 payroll
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 02:30 PM) I was told here that the Laroche/Melky/Duke contracts were insignificant and would not have a bearing on further spending. Why don't you wait until you see how this plays out before you start whining?
-
Future Sox' in-depth look at the prospects sent for Frazier
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 07:31 AM) Somehow the 92 win Dodgers can find a use for Micah. But Robin and his 76 wins couldn't fit him in. That might require platooning and late inning replacements on a regular basis. It's like the sox run the org. For the convenience of its limited field manager. Sure they stick Sanchez and Saladino out there. They had no other choice. But they could have been more creative in their use and used Micah as well. But why bother when you have Alexei to take all the snaps and beckham to fill in. They sent Micah back so he could play every day and work on his defense. You love Sanchez. How much do you think these guys develop playing half the time?
-
Upton or Cespedes
His problem is he swings at pitches that are hard for anyone to do anything with.

Upton or Cespedes
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) I agree. But, I think it'll be 7 years with an opt out after 3-4. Disagree, the OF market is just so slow right now. Literally barely hearing anything on players. They can backload a deal, much like what the Giants did with Samardzija. Side not, Cardinals are working Holliday out at 1B now. I bet they get back in the Gordon sweepstakes. Robin Ventura used to babysit Matt Holliday.
