White Sox decline to tender Tyler Flowers and Jacob Turner
Dick Allen replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 06:11 PM) Navarro had a 894 OPS against LH starters last year and batted 266 with a 715 OPS away from Toronto last season. Encouraging. It seems he is the guy with Avila vs. RHP. Of course Emilio Bonifacio was supposed to kill lefties. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 06:06 PM) Getting rid of Turner so quickly surprises me though. He never had a chance to work with Coop. He must not be healthy. -

Assuming he doesn't sign a lesser contract and returns, Avi Garcia is now the longest tenured position player on the White Sox. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 11:31 AM) Nuevo Leon use to have 2 locations. 1 on 18th st east of blue island and the other on 26th est of palaski. 18th Street burned down. They are insured and say they will rebuild.

Jeff Samardjiza signs with SF Giants, 5/90.

If he has $100 million on the table, which I seriously doubt, IMO, it's the Dodgers if they don't bring back Greinke. -
No one was going to pay Price what the Red Sox paid him except the Sawks. STL was second about $30 million shy. This signing affects Sale/Q like ARod affected Magglio Ordonez.

Luke Walton NBA coach of the month. Official career coaching record.......0-0.

I think he should be pretty good for a few seasons. I just wonder if he ever gets the postseason problem figured out. It has to be on his mind by now.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 05:14 PM) Are you sure about that? This story from WLS-TV claims the organ in question is the "old organ from the ballpark". Maybe there's more than one organ. http://abc7chicago.com/sports/white-sox-fa...r-sale/1103458/ Yes. Google NNcy Faust organ and you will see pictures of her in her booth. The organ isn't wooden., and is the same one being used now. The email the White Sox sent said it was her home practice organ that was for sale.
-
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) Lol - well, they could do that, but the plaque on the organist's booth already has her likeness, so this might be a duplication of efforts. The actual organ would be really unique. She was always considered the most talented organist in baseball throughout her tenure, so to acknowledge and honor that by having the actual organ on the park's premises would be, in my opinion, the appropriate thing to do. Fans can visit the actual organ Nancy played every home game right behind home plate. I have yet to see a long line to see it. The one they are selling is one she used at home to practice.
-
Bauer should be working on how to throw a strike.
-
BTW what they are selling is Nancy's home practice organ. Probably the one she used in the park is still being used. So line up outside the organ booth for a look.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 10:25 AM) Put it in the ball park and tens of thousands of people would view it every single year. Im sure someone has some good ideas for it, but it'd be a great dedication for the legend that is Nancy Faust. Put it in a case and use it as a centerpiece to explain why she is a legend and her impact on Chicago and sports as a whole. With the amount of eyes on it, hopefully she could continue to inspire some even in her retirement. Nancy has a plaque on the organ booth and the new lady has an organ you can look at. I will admit, it is awe inspiring. I liked Nancy as much as anyone, and I too am bothered by the demise of the organ and move to canned music, but that is where it is headed. I don't think an old organ in a glass case is going to change where this is headed. Getting some kids who need coats and food is a better choice.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) I don't know, I feel the organ could serve better as forever a musuem piece in the park than sold for a finite amount of charity money. Hopefully it falls into good hands. A freaking organ? People will be lined up around the block to look over the organ thousands of times. It is good to hear Nancy herself is the one donating it for charity. Why hasn't anyone questioned where it even was if it would be such a big deal to look at? Let someone buy it, and help a needy kid or family.

It serves a far better good raising money for charity.

QUOTE (bruni @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) Given that 3B was a black hole for the White Sox, they should have been on the phone with every team with a possible 3B solution for them at the trade deadline, including Toronto with whom they are familiar from past dealings. Believe me, had they been in real time communication with Toronto on the 31st, they could have made a trade that day with Toronto as Toronto was acquiring Revere. I am sure that he could have been snagged as a same day follow up to the Revere trade. Believe me, Toronto knew good and well that acquiring Revere would require them to dump Valencia and they would have gladly received something vs. nothing. Not hard to make it work if the Sox brass were being proactive-not reactive. So your original complaint was shown to be incorrect, but you just can't admit you were wrong. The White Sox aren't the only team looking for a third baseman. It looks like a lot of teams missed out on the Messiah, Danny Valencia.

Adam LaRoche had a better OBP than Hanley Ramirez last season. Hanley Ramirez is a terrible idea.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 06:07 PM) lol none of the guys we dealt away in that trade really amounted to much (Morse broke out in his upper-20s with a different team so he likely would have been dfa'd or released or whatever with us at some point as well). Even the Swisher trade, Gio turned out well, but the others were nothing, and Gio had plenty of detractors on this board. Swisher wasn't that awful for the White Sox. He still hit some homers and got on base. He certainly wasn't what he was right before or right after, but it was a decent gamble. That was back in the day when the Sox had an offense.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 05:54 PM) Wow. That's actually true. Green sox hero worships prospects. His ideal team would be 25 guys making minimum, moved ou the next year because they would be due a raise. He still says trading for Freddy Garcia was stupid, even though it worked out in the form of a championship, and he ignores the Sox traded him for Gio and Floyd.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) Based on what? Thompson's 800+OPS and impeccable defense when he played? Sanchez' first year, where he too played excellent defense? And yet somehow we are supposed to believe that Brett Lawrie is a plus player in this league???? Bottom line is Sox fans as a group, just like the front office, have zero patience with youth. Zero. They would much rather trade them all in for players who are proven to be mediocre. Thus, in my 48 years of following this team, there have been 5 playoff appearances. Five in 48. But we had those veterans and plenty of heroes. So let's go do another Swisher trade for Lawrie. Sox made the playoffs when they traded for Swisher.

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 11:59 AM) ok, i may not agree for this reason, at this point, if the sox can get out from under his contract, so much the better. even if the sox will pay, what, 3 mil of his salary. the risk is too much for me to accept that gamble. furthermore, even if he can hit a little better than last yr, no one can say his offensive stat will be his normal let alone above avg, something that i will need to see to accept. \ lastly, look at paulie last couple of yrs as a sox, loos at his stats. that is what i am expecting to see. and i hope i am wrong. It isn't logical you could get something for LaRoche or even much salary relief if it is assumed he will be as horrible next season. If it only saves them a million or so, they are better off seeing if he can bounce back. Baseball Prospectus really thought he would age decently last year. He had one of his highest walk rates and lowest k rates in 2014. Maybe it was just the adjustment to the AL and to DHing that threw him off a bit, but unless there is some real savings, getting rid of him just to get rid of him makes little sense to me. He is a highly respected teammate.

The 40-man, Rule 5, and roster decisions

QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 07:14 AM) "Can't get big league hitters out" is an expression, Wite, not a literal statement. I thought with your Adminhood you would know the difference. I wasn't talking about his performance in 2013-14. Last season, he had a lot of trouble getting anyone out, especially after his first 30 days after being called up. He pitched 30 innings last season, so with your powers of deduction, he recorded 90 outs. He gave up 46 hits and 23 walks/HBP. And he was getting worse as the season progressed. Figure it out. He couldn't get MANY/ENOUGH hitters out, okay? He wouldn't be the first guy to struggle getting many/enough/however you want to put it , big league hitters out, who eventually figure out how to get them out. He has a ton of ability. He has horrible command and control. If he can get that harnessed, he would be a well above average bullpen option. That is obviously a huge if, but it doesn't cost too much to find out if he can, and you won't exactly get a future all star for his services. -
Micah is doing a lot of White Sox holiday charity things right now. IMO, it's a sign he probably isn't out the door, at least they aren't dangling him.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 05:33 PM) Given that my question was "how can we be certain that his 2015 will be more representative of his future performance than his 2013-2014 years" and that was your reply, I interpret this as you asserting certainty that his next 3 years will be well represented by his 2015 performance. Is that fair? You conclude what you want to conclude, all I am saying is you seemed to credit hisimprovement on it being a contract year, or you probably wouldn't have mentioned it. I am pointing out one of his poor seasons you mentioned was also contract year. That might disprove a thought that he would only play well for a contract. The fact is we can't be certain how anyone will perform in the future.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 28, 2015 -> 01:22 PM) No idea how well his offense will translate, but defense is pretty much defense. And that's some real real solid glovework there. I could make a YouTube video of Avi Garcia playing the outfield, and if you had never seen him play and only saw video, you would think he was a gold glove quality OF. I will give you this guy has a reputation of being good with the glove.
