  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 07:54 PM) I put data out there, not just the data that favors my position. It's called honest debate. Quentin carried us to the division in 2008. He didn't play the last month, but we aren't even in the race but for him. Where did I ever say Eaton wasn't any good? Do you think the people who come up with Q proposals believe Q isn't any good? I want to trade him because a)I think he is good but I think we can get better value in return; and b)His weakness (or area of mediocrity if you prefer)- lack of OF coverage - really hurts this team in this current OF structure where he is surrounded by 2 defensive oafs. You have written time and time again that Eaton isn't as good as his numbers , needs to be traded immediately. Keeping him is hero worship, and the Sox should build around Trayce Thompson who, ironically, isn't as good as his numbers. You really have a bad case of guys making the minimum worship.
  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 06:42 PM) yea, Williams knew that was going to happen. Jackson Swisher Shark Dunn Those proven veterans. Meanwhile, prospect for prospect gets you: Quentin Eaton Davidson I'll take the latter approach. Davidson might not ever play MLB. You are the one Eaton isn't any good. Quentin was good but always hurt and would never play meaningful games if the White Sox did what you want them to do and always trade for prospects and always be in a perpetual rebuild.
  3. QUOTE (lord chas @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 09:31 PM) I used to deliver for Nancys pizza in college. Nancys charged $3 per delivery and the drivers never saw a cent. I would definitely advise people to tip if you order consistently. Drivers will fight to deliver the good tippers food fast. Bad tippers food will sit and on the rare occasion guys would hold the pizzas out the window in the winter to send these customers a message That is part of the problem. I always grease the delivery guy, but have always assumed the delivery fee was going into his pocket as well. If someone orders $15 worth of food and pays a $4 delivery fee they assume the driver is getting, it is easy to see why the driver would get a weak tip or even stiffed.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 09:18 AM) I don't think the Padres are rebuilding. All they did was clear 2 expensive relievers to try to improve other positions. The Boston prospects are still at least a year away, maybe 2 or 3.
  5. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 07:22 AM) Sure throw in Adams. i.e. ravage the farm for 2 years of Coors Field Cargo. The same kind of move as sending our top pitching prospect for Edwin Jackson. It gets the Sox nowhere. Sox don't have a lot in upper minors. Which is why we should keep our players in the lower minors. Trade Q or sign a FA first. Or try to get that 3B prospect Losing Daniel Hudson was a devastating blow to the White Sox. One in which they are still trying to recover. Once again, hero worshipping probably cost the White Sox 2 or 3 playoff appearances.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) I believe that they can offer him the QO again next year can't they? Yes, but if he is average, they probably don't offer.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) The problem is that the Sox have to give up the pick that they will receive for Samardzija. If it was their 2nd rounder, I'd agree with you. However, the only reason they didn't give up Shark was to obtain that pick. It's going to be in the 25-28 range. I believe that takes them out of the market for any FA with a QO attached. If there was a 4-5 guaranteed WAR guy for the next few seasons, the Sox wouldn't care about the draft pick, but those guys also come with huge price tags. It will be interesting to see if anyone else takes the QO, and how the acceptance changes things moving forward. I am shocked Weiters took it, but when you think about it, it shouldn't be so shocking. You have to give up a pick for a guy who hasn't played a full season in a while. The offers couldn't have been that high. If he gets the $15.8 this year, and becomes an average catcher, he probably gets the same offers next year without the QO.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) They can't trade him. In the story on MLBTR about Rasmus accepting, it says the team can't trade him until June (or maybe July). I think they can trade him earlier if they get his consent.
  9. Until Avi understands which pitches he can hit hard, and which he cannot, he will be a disappointment. There are 2 things I would have done with him. One would have been in one of the September games that didn't mean anything, I would have had him go up to bat 4 times, and not swing once. Just watch the balls into the glove. With the book on him where throwing strikes makes no sense, he probably would have walked at least a couple of times. Show him that pitchers don't throw him strikes because they don't have to throw him strikes. Secondly, I would have him change his stance. Open him up, maybe lower his hands a bit, and see what happens. It worked for Nelson Cruz who was outrighted, available to anyone on waivers when he was 25 or 26. Status quo might work, but it's better he changes up. He obviously wants to be good, and has the talent to do it, but he needs a different approach, and different mechanics. I just don't see how his pitch recognition is going to get better by words alone. Give him a different look.
  10. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 06:23 PM) No Are you kidding?? No Hero worshipping.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 11:58 AM) I delivered Pizzas in college briefly, this is how it worked for us: When the order was completed there was a cost associated. The driver then PAID the business for the order and collected from the customer the money back plus gratuity. If you were stiffed, no tip etc, it didnt matter. I was stiffed plenty of times and I ended up paying for that meal. This is pretty common across food delivery. I also made less than min wage there, I want to say 4-5 bucks an hour A friend of mine delivered pizzas. He always remember who stiffed him. Next time they received a pie, he made a few awkward stops, their pie hit the car floor a couple of times upside down. I would think the servers would hate this even though they are getting a better wage. I always tip cash. There isn't a server in the world that reports all their tips to the IRS.
  12. I got a Scott Downs road jersey for $25 at the season ticketholder party. It goes well with my $20 Gregory Infante, he of the career ERA 0.00 Infantes, black jersey. Everyone has a Konerko or a Sale. I like to be different, and it's a lot cheaper.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) If the Sox can somehow get Andrelton Simmons without giving up Q/Rodon/Fulmer, I would be ECSTATIC. That guy can play. They can get him for Sale.
  14. If you don't like Samardzija, think of it this way...if he is awesome in 2016, not taking the QO cost him a ton of money.
  15. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 10:57 AM) I think Fulmer is pretty much untouchable, but I agree otherwise. My guess is they'll take offers on Q first, and if they're not blown away, use Johnson & Montas to add some offense. Either way, frees up a spot for one of those mid-tier free agents, who make a ton of sense for the reasons you identified. Also, Anderson got a QO, so you can definitely cut him from the list of potential pickups. From what Hayes said, the Sox aren't too keen about dealing Q. He is the young cost-controlled they and every team desires. It would take a mint to pry him away.
  16. They were calling the race for the worst record in 2013 the Carlos Rodon sweepstakes. He had a couple of rough outings his final season and people tend to outthink themselves and know with Boras , with Rodon as a junior with leverage, he is getting more than slot, so they go another direction and the White Sox wound up beneficiaries.
  17. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 09:21 PM) Can you spend just a little more time in thinking about how to debunk everything I say, because your retorts are getting weaker and weaker as we go along. This is one of your sadder efforts, and that's saying something. I did not "ignore the parts about those other teams finishing under .500 for five straight years". I actually called out how Hahn not only acknowledged that's what a rebuild takes, but actually how he "praised" that approach and found it one to "emulate". What I did in my last post was simply try and tie in a point you made that we had started the rebuild a "few years ago" - your words - and therefore if this approach is one that Hahn now prefers, at least we are a few years into it. In other words, with our three consecutive years at under .500 already under our belts now, we should only have 2-3 years more of the results we've recently experienced before our fortunes turn. And given the current state of the team with its league-worst offense and near-worst defense, it's going to take 2-3 years to improve on that with an approach that involves avoiding free agency and favors acquiring young talent. One more time, SS2K5, just to make sure you get it. If Hahn is now in favor of the approach that Houston, KC, Pittsburgh and the Cubs took,,one that in his words requires a "minimum of five years with a record under .500", then at the very least that's good news, because we now have three of those under .500 done with. But it's going to take another couple of years to turn it around based on where we are today, and so your point that Hahn was not suggesting this organization wasn't "punting away half of a decade" in order to get things right was, well, wrong. Wrong and very inaccurate. Which is great for you, at least 2 more years of the same post b****ing about how Reinsdorf has ruined White Sox fans' lives. And it's not just being under .500 for 5 years, it is being god awful for 5 years or more. The Cubs had Schwarber and Bryant on the field as their draft picks this year. That is a #4 overall and a #2 overall. KC had Gordon, Moustakas and Hosmer, a #2, #2, and #3.
  18. Dan Hayes was on CSN last night from the GM meetings, and he said Eric Johnson is on the block.
  19. It would boggle my mind why the union would be against it. It would free up more cash for their membership.
  20. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) Thanks. So if a player accepts a QO would that be considered an extension or a FA signing as far as the ability to trade that player? I don't think you can trade them until sometime in May or June without their consent.
  21. Steamer projects Anderson a 0.7 WAR in about half the playing time it projects Alexei a 0.9 WAR for 2016.
  22. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) I think based on the "he just got cheaper" comment to end the post, yes he knows. I'm gonna take a hard pass on Reyes, even before considering he's an alleged wife beater. He looked awful vs. the White Sox last season. Now tosses his wife around. Not worth the trouble.
  23. I am sure glad these numbers finally came out. I had no idea the White Sox defense was poor in 2015.
  24. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 09:25 AM) I was under the impression that Maddon or not, Renteria probably wasn't going to be around once Theo & Friends felt they were ready to compete. He may have stayed through the extra year (2015 season) if their bespectacled messiah didn't fall into their hands (obviously there was some collusion there as well), but that entire thing felt temporary from the moment he was hired. He actually had 2 years left on his contract. I don't think he was a place holder. Whatever it is, the Cubs and the almighty Theo, thought he was good enough for their young players as the manager. As a bench coach, no one should have a problem with this hire.
