QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:22 AM) QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) * If you can't add, as much as it pains me, then you must take advantage of said prices and subtract. They had a plan which supposedly included Samardzija. What were they going to pay him with if they have no money? It isn't like they are $20 million short of their projected revenues. If they are, they are crazy. What is the point? It seems to make sense to me. If you can't add, then you must subtract. I think they will add. I'm just saying if they don't, and don't then subtract, they are IMO making an error.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:11 AM) Should I pull out your post where you are recently tearing the team apart if the White Sox aren't willing to spend due to the high FA price tags and fear of making another colosssal payroll mistake? Alex Gordon isn't the right player at age 32 unless they can only sign him for three years...that just won't happen in this market. I still believe the White Sox are less likely to spend $75-100 million than KC because the Royals are looking at offensive downgrades at three separate positions. At the very least, they'll go after someone like Ian Desmond, although he doesn't quite line up with their defensive philosophy. Actually, I wouldn't be totally shocked if they signed Alexei Ramirez and played him at 2b and LF/RF. They only have a two year window. Something like Parra, Ramirez and Desmond to keep them competitive enough. Veteran players mostly. Please do. I wasn't tearing the team apart. I basically said s*** or get off the pot. And if now Gordon just won't happen, how come 15 minutes ago it was a 25-33 percent chance?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:11 AM) And we both know, the second half of last season is the only set of metrics worth reviewing No, but it is more in line with what the White Sox thought they were getting.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 09:07 AM) Melky and his .710 Ops = 7 hole hitter As for Frazier, if rents, low OBP and high K acquaint ion philosophy repeatedly fails, keep doing it until it work. Melky's OPS the second half was over .780. Since Fraziers OPS the second half of last season was very important to you, I thought Melky's must be equally as important.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 08:54 AM) The Cubs have enough attention on this board already. Supporting them the next 4-5 seasons would be like supporting the Yankees, Red Sox, Packers, Patriots, Man U or Barcelona. Who did I predict they would sign? 25-33% chance on Gordon...that's the likeliest, but at the salary and years he's asking you can understand why a small market team with the worst media contract in baseball won't risk hamstringing themselves with an exploding albatross of a contract. I will give you 4 to 1 odds on Gordon, which is the low end of your ridiculous made up percentages. Care to make it interesting? You are all over the place, just last night you were telling us the Royals are in a far greater position financially to sign a guy to a big contract than the White Sox. Now it's a different story.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 08:33 AM) Post-steroid era aging curves are different, guys. Players are peaking much sooner. Also, not every guy is the same. Upton's age is an advantage because it doesn't seem likely to be affected by age-related decline soon, but we need to stop pretending he's a lock to improve the next few years just because he isn't 30 yet. I don't think it is all steroids. There were a lot of guys very productive into their late 30s and up until 40 and I don't think all of them were juicing. I think the ball is less juiced, because if anyone thinks the juicing has stopped, they are kidding themselves.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 08:34 AM) I feel like Eaton would be an awesome 2 hole hitter, but then the problem would be finding a good leadoff man. Eaton is great leading off. His steals aren't great but he gets on base and was according to Bill James, the White Sox best baserunner in 2015. There is no reason to move him. I hope they try Melky back at the 2 spot. He supposedly was perfect for it until he couldn't buy a hit for a couple of months.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 15, 2015 -> 07:34 AM) Caulfield, why is everyone of your posts in a "Todd Frazier" thread about the Royals!?! Believe me, a couple of the guys he is thinking the Royals are signing go elsewhere, he is jumping off that bandwagon. I don't think it's coincidence he came back when he said he was gone until Ventura or KW left as soon as the Cubs got Heyward. That's his next stop.

Also keep in mind not only is the money they were willing to pay Shark available, there is $9 million they probably thought they would be paying Alexei in 2016 available.

Who will the next TV PBP be to split duties with Hawk?
Dick Allen replied to professa's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (InTheDriversSeat @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 07:36 PM) True, but Hawk's plans for 2016 were indicated on the Sox website: http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/153...ducing-schedule . That is because the news was out and Merkin couldn't ignore it. It was in the article the team wouldn't confirm. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 07:38 PM) The highest is Gil Meche for $55 million and 5 years, not too far off from Abreu/Dunn actually. Of course, that was almost a decade ago, when nobody wanted to go to KC as a FA and Glass felt they had to set a precedent by overpaying. There are rumors they want to keep the Opening Day payroll roughly the same as last year, but they will open the bank for Cain/Hosmer/Moustakas and Alex Gordon if they can get any of those four to come close to signing reasonable extensions into their FA years. The odds would still have to be considered higher to keep a player than for the Sox to bring a new player into the organization, fwiw. Obviously it didn't work with Zobrist, so they decided that Colon/Mondesi/Infante (since he is already a sunk cost) are better options financially. For their perspective, they have a limited two year window left. The White Sox have the opposite problem, their window has been pushed back to 2017 and more likely 2018. If there is any time in history they would go out and spend that money, it's going to be now...defending a World Series championship. That said, they have one of, if not the worst local media rights deal in MLB, and it doesn't come up for renewal until the White Sox contract with CSN expires (2019). For the White Sox, they're just fighting to get to 3rd place in the AL Central. LOL If,the window, has been pushed back another year or 2 how, come you came back to this site after you stated you wouldn't return until Bentura or KW were gone unless it is to troll?

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 07:31 PM) Royals or White Sox? Royals, with the payroll. Said it would be around $115 million. White Sox haven't signed a $70 million guy. But then again neither have the Royals.
-
QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 07:20 PM) Are there any veteran short stops who fit my profile? Ideally, he would be a guy whom the Sox could acquire for a couple of years, until and if Anderson is ready to take over. An outstanding young prospect would likely cost too much in talent going back to the trading partner, and the Sox should not be looking for a long term solution at SS, with Anderson in the wings. Saladino now. Maybe Alexei in a month or so.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 07:24 PM) Where are these percentages coming from? Off the top of my head, you have the Orioles, Angels, Cardinals, Tigers and Royals who are all in a much better position to spend money than the White Sox (particularly KC if it's Gordon)... The last five years has demonstrated that those organizations with the benefit of new broadcast rights deals are typically the one who make these kinds of moves like Upton, Cespedes or Chris Davis that will clearly be over the $100 million mark. How many $100 million players have the Royals signed in their history? And the news today said they will not be raising payroll.
-
We have no idea of an actual percentage as we don't know how serious the White,Sox are about signing theses guys.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 05:22 PM) A well paid fall guy, like a lot of managers. Part of the job. Robin doesn't need the money. Having him get toasted in the media when the roster is short is not being a loyal pal.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 04:58 PM) Looking at the Kimbrel and Miller trades, are they really that insane? I think the Miller trade is insane.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 03:24 PM) When they offered Samardjiza an extension they hadn't planned on sucking in 2015, and losing a chunk of the fan base after the season. Things change. Just because the money was there then, doesn't mean it is there now. That was a year ago. How much has the season ticket base decreased? Even if it is a decent percentage numbers wise, dollars wise it won't be that much. The most expensive seats are still all sold. Call the team and ask what is the best available. The $7 a game weekend people bail. There is no way it has decreased enough where they had the money to sign him then and now, the payroll needs to be lower. Besides, adding these players brings many of the people who bailed back. And if they thought anything short of the playoffs was going to still be a big spike in attendance, they obviously forgot about 2012. One positive is usually when the White Sox start crying poor, they are about to spend some money.
-
if JR is really as loyal,as most say, I don't know why he would leave Robin with an in between roster and throw him to the wolves. He is obviously the next fall guy, so get him the horses or back off and make it clear the team is in transition.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 03:08 PM) We have seen so far this off season that the costs of both FA players and prospects in trades have escalated quite a bit. I think Hayes might be right on this. If you can't add, as much as it pains me, then you must take advantage of said prices and subtract. They had a plan which supposedly included Samardzija. What were they going to pay him with if they have no money? It isn't like they are $20 million short of their projected revenues. If they are, they are crazy. They have never operated that way. Their projections have always been beyond conservative leaving them profits on a yearly basis except one, but Forbes said the $3 million loss they took in 2013 included the $10 million bonus that was paid to Abreu after that season ended.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 03:04 PM) To be honest, doing that and just hoping for profession is better than trading top prospects for Frazier. IF we are going to make a run at this, we need to go all in and add Frazier plus an Upton. If you sign Upton, fine, that can be part of a longer term plan, but wasting pieces on Frazier without having an aggressive and legit plan to contend for both of his seasons under team control is just absurd in my eyes...absurd. I agree. Swallow hard JR, and be prepared to take a bath if it doesn't work. If he isn't willing, then see what you can get for your players. Half assed doesn't work .
-
Dan Hayes seems to think the White Sox won't be signing a big bat free agent, and most likely won't be trading for Frazier. Of course they could be playing with him.
-
For as much as KW has been ripped for trading prospects, most of which have sucked, it seems his method is the most preferred here in December and January. I have seen posts with proposals shipping most of the Sox top 10 prospects out for veterans with 2 years on their contracts and with other concerns.
-
Anderson is also ascending. His fielding is getting better. His hitting is improving, his k rate is improving, his walk rate sucks, but is improving. He would be a top 2 or 3 prospect on most teams in baseball.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 09:14 AM) I think they start the process of breaking in The Next Guy this year. Who that is, I don't know. What I don't expect to see is a temp or fill in guy like a Swirsky/Wimpy/Black Jack etc, except for a game or series fill in. I agree with this.
