You'd think the schedule favors them. They play the Rockies this weekend and then the Braves and Brewers next week, who will have nothing to play for and will probably want to setup their playoff rotations (especially the Brewers).

Miami has the Brewers, Mets, and Pirates left. Brewers' magic # is 1 now I believe, so they may lay down if the Cubs lose one game this weekend.

Reds have the Pirates, Guardians, and Cardinals.

Padres have Cardinals, Giants, and Sox, but they're 4 back with 9 to play, so they basically have to go undefeated.

I know the Brewers need to set up the rotation for the playoffs but I still think it's as important to knock the cubs out.  That place will be 70% cub fans which my or may not be important.  The cubs offense is better then the Brewers and in short series can outperform the them rather easily.

Brewers pitching is stacked as it has been previously and has not worked out in playoffs.

This is one hell of a collapse by the Cubs. Even the Pirates spanked them.

That's a pretty classless thing to say about the Pirates.  Pretty big dick move from a  team that lost 2 of 3 to the Rockies and 3 of 4 to AZ as well.

I don’t believe the team would cut him off the way they have if he wasn’t involved

Agreed if it was health, other family issue or minor infraction he isn't wiped clean so quickly and remains on leave especially if it's health.  Nate Davis is a prime example of that.

The silence on the legality of it to me speaks volumes.

FBI probably didn't raid Hals Hall but informed them that there is an issue and confiscated his belongings.

The professionalism with Poles and hopefully Warren are needed here.

Because if we can all see it coming a mile away, it signals that nothing will change. In almost every other circumstance, when a GM and President are fired, it feels like a fresh start/new direction. The Sally Perez stuff has been talked about well before Hahn and Williams were let go, but even though both of them are gone, it STILL seems like a foregone conclusion he’ll be on this team in 2024. It’s just such a “White Sox move” and we all know now that means Jerry, not even Kenny and Rick. We also know how the Sox will view that move, putting a ton of weight and value into adding someone like Perez. I absolutely believe with all my heart Jerry believes he’ll add 10 wins to this team because of leadership.

By itself its a good move.  Gives time for the younger guys to ease in.

If it's THE move or if the move precludes them from spending elsewhere it's a terrible move.  It's the move JR railed about in regard to paying a .220 hitting 2B $13M.

For the rotation they are going to rely on Cease and the new guy Navi-something.  Clevenger is as good as any FA option if the mutual option is picked up but my guess is he opts out and then the Sox walk away and are left with a hole.  They are not signing more then 2 FA pitchers and there and the bullpen is where it all falls apart.

Clevenger may not opt out as I would have assumed somebody would have taken a flyer on him at the deadline.  If they put him on waivers FL or CIN would pick him up to make two starts before the end of the year and that could be the difference.  I am not certain he could be put on waivers again though.

Don’t really understand this, as Poles hired this staff, not the previous regime.  Warren can absolutely say “this wasn’t my guy” about Poles, but Poles can’t say that about the staff under him

Didn't the coaching candidates interview prior to Poles making a decision, I could be wrong but thought he was somewhat limited as to who he could hire with Bill Polian having some input.

That's about the only reason I think of for allowing Poles to clean house 19 games into his tenure with a regime he put together.

Warren has got to be thinking of pulling the plug on all of them.

  6. The Bears really are the fall version of the Chicago White Sox.

Poles can pass off the hiring as being the wishes of the former regime same with the QB.

Then Warren can do the same with Poles in three years if need be.

In 7 years Warren can finally be held accountable for a decision....except the Arlington land was already invested in so he can say they were not tolerable to work with.

  7. Poles couldn't move Fields based on public perception.  I will say though that they should have known going into this year that this is who he is and what is plan B.

The 49ers have shown that missing on a QB and bad trade is not crippling if other aspects of the organization are working properly.

The Bears look to be 0-2 in this hunt and the other aspects of the organization are subpar as well.

Hopefully they are getting two high picks next year.  Then they can trade one for additional draft capital.

Brewers also likely won’t have anything to play for

Brewers would certainly be playing for cubs to not make it.  The place will be more cub fans in round one.  Cubs offense can beat anyone and is clearly the best of the four options.  Cubs pitching isn't much but Steele gets them a game.

  9. Still gotta be a favorite to get in with that schedule.

Getting to play at Milwaukee will be a whole other thing as I am sure cub fans gobbled up tickets there.  I know I would have if I was a cub fan.  I can see that series being a pick'em.  Brewers cannot hit and the roof removes foul weather.

Political debates have more honesty than that.  It's obvious players don't care to play for Grifol and the coaches.

They keep trumpeting the idea that the bad vibes in the clubhouse have been traded.  While that could be true, I wonder if they will ever address the fact that this offense is not at all close to being a real offense.

Grifol couldn't wait to get Anderson back into the leadoff spot.  He is such a moron.

Our guys lost the season series to the Rockies, Royals and the A’s, the White Sox are a disgrace and embarrassment to the city of Chicago and Sox fans everywhere. The fans should boycott the remainder of home games on the 2023 schedule, send JR a message that Sox fans will not tolerate his pathetic ownership any longer. This also falls on the players, I’ve never seen a Sox team that just keeps doing dumb things especially in their approach while in the batters box, they have no idea what working the count means. Last night Eloy didn’t swing at 2 meatballs down the middle of the plate then swings and misses on a pitch that he couldn’t hit with a broom, we’ve seen stuff like this all season, is Grifol and the rest of the dunces on the coaching staff working with the players or are they just not listening, don’t care or just plain stupid.

But Colas was sent down and the new catcher from Houston benched.

    Whole organization is a travesty.

To be honest with you, I don’t see anything Dave Wilder said to be relevant. He was a minority outsider hired by the White Sox, something he said JR refused to do. He also said no one ever tried to get his side of his story until now. Total BS. I did a quick google search, and there is an article stating the Tribune asked for his side, he hung up. If anything, Wilder being an outsider, stealing from JR, might make JR even less likely to hire unknown people. His race plays no part. If he was white and did what he did, he wouldn’t be in baseball right now. Dave Wilder is a disgrace, and he still thinks although what he did was technically wrong, he has a legit excuse for it. How come no one else has hired him? He is blaming JR for his troubles. He just loved that someone gave him a chance to be relevant again. I’m sure after this article, if any team was even tempted to give him a low level role, they are tempted no more.

    Spot on.

IF through 8 weeks of the season - the Bears are like 1-7 and its because the offense is not scoring, moving the needle -> than they need to do something different. It isn't a controversy - cause Fields will have shown he is NO good and Bagent is probably worse, but lets find out.

Now if they are 1-7 and its because they are giving up 35 points per game and losing 35-28, well that is a different problem and one I would honestly GLADLY accept.  I am fine if the Bears wanted to completely ignore the defense and just build the offense and once they find an offense that works, try to figure out the defense.  Just because I am so done watching horrendous offense(s) year in and year out.

I will state - Williams looks like a seriously awful DC (showed plenty of signs of that last year - but I got it, the talent level was horrendous).  This year the talent level of the pass rusher(s) is still bad, but there is enough talent around that, where I expect better and I certainly expect better coaching wise to move the needle.

It has to be a pretty uncomfortable day/week at Halas and hopefully this team responds well.  One time back in 2003, the Patriots lost a home opener 31-0 to the Bills. The Pats went on to go 14-2 and won the Super Bowl that year.

All goes back to the Bears and White Sox failing to hire anyone with a proven track record.  Maybe Warren is the guy as he has some backstory but none of it revolves around winning football games.
