We are in the process of ditching cable in our household to go to streaming and I told my wife that I want to make sure to get something so that I can watch the Sox games next season....and then I think to myself "boy that sounds kinda stupid to have that as a priority, huh?"

If you like the bulls and hawks you are good....you get the marquee as well.  I was going to cancel mine in August but I think I wanna see what this new Hawks guy is all about.

You can legally bet on baseball, but baseball can ban you. You can legally appear in a porn movie, but baseball can ban you. There are legal supplements that you can take but baseball can ban you. You can scream all the racists crap you want, but baseball can ban you.

This isn't about him doing something illegal. This is about decent people boycotting a product if they employ someone like him. If you own a company you don't have to continue to employ someone who you believe is bad for your business

I meant more along the lines of criminal legality.  I understand MLB can enforce a standard of conduct but if a person won't press charges they are consenting to the behavior.

Fraser is in the corporate world last I heard. Just wanted to get out of hs sports.

I think that is becoming more and more common.  Wouldn't be shocked if that is why Holocek and Kuska stepped down at LA and Rita.  When you pay for high school and sports are the main driver, parents believe they have a greater say in things.

greg, I think Brian's kids and work are taking up his time now.

Sure you can, you can refuse to press charges.

The Dodgers had no issue at all with giving him that contract.  Oddly that location and the contract led to this situation.

The Athletic piece is exactly what I was talked about yesterday in this thread.  The state of the media in America could be the greatest detriment to our society currently.

  5. There is also the whole conspiracy theory of owners dictating the policy on how this impacts their organization.  Not sure where I saw this but the same policy has Marcel Ozuna playing and ending Bauer's career was an interesting comparative.

Not too hot. I watched the Rice-Mt. Carmel game tonight. Rice got slugged 42-7. I will NEVER criticize high school kids as they are kids not getting paid and are trying. That being said coach Q is using two QBs and letting them each play a series, rotating. That's never worked on any level.

Rice was down 28-0 and the public address announcer told the fans to quit making negative comments. I forget the word he used. Damn I wish I could remember it. It wasn't 'negative' it was something like 'derogatory.' He actually told the fans to behave better. He said 'this is high school football.'

I'm assuming the fans were booing coach Q. Vanilla offense. Not our night in any way.

I fear this is the year no playoffs. Team is 3-3 heading into Nazareth. After that Rita and somebody else. Got to go 2-1 to get in. Mt. Carmel QB is amazing. Mt. Carmel had big linemen. Unfortunately if Rice played 'em 10 times we'd lose all 10.

Harry ... will coach Q stick around for the long haul? Rice is 3-3 and trending downward. Didn't see a lot of talent out there tonight. That said as always i appreciate the effort of the kids. The ain't getting paid and are trying. It just seems futile.

greg, I don't know the inner workings at BR but Q's lower levels are doing very well.  The talent on varsity the last two years was down and may have been a reason Brian left.  The arrow appears to be pointing up and I think Q sticks around.

They should be in the last three games and have a chance to win and make the playoffs.  Losing to Marist has to sting as they are 1-5 and out of the playoffs but can hang their hat on beating BR.

As for QB, if you have 2 or 3 QBS, you don't have one and from what I heard that is the case. They also lost their D1 MLB who was vital in them beating Maine South.

  7. WSCR had an exclusive interview with Eberflus yesterday afternoon per their social media account.....so exclusive, ESPN 1000 had one at 8:30 in the morning as they do every Monday.

I really detest WSCR at this point.  I feel like greg yelling at the clouds over this.

  8. Based on the history of MLB handling this, I think either something has come out more recently or there are items out there that he is not addressing.

My issue in all of this is the media handling.  There is a reason why players are suspended with no back story into it like Jimmy Cordero.  That came out of nowhere and was a major suspension.

Then there is Clevenger and the media (mainly WSCR) that ran unsubstantiated proof and interviewed an alleged victim while station employees went on a witchhunt.  He didn't even get a slap on the wrist.  That punishment was barely a CYA by MLB.

Yet here we are with some still wanting him to be gone, which he probably will.  If you want him gone because of the COVID/Francona action fine but the Indians are still hanging on to that ring leader so I'm not certain there is stock in that as well.

Kim Ng was pretty pissed off based on reports last evening.

Hoping the Marlins make the playoffs.

Whole series was a joke and it would be nice for Manfred to give the Marlins the Mets first round pick next year as a penalty for the willful negligence that went on this whole series.  It could cost the Marlins a playoff spot.  First with the DH and then last night.

I truly believe he is a good DC. Whether he is a good HC or not, probably not. One thing I do know - this is a scheme that requires a good dline (not dissimilar to other schemes).  The Bears aren't remotely close to having a good d-line. Think about the Bears good D's in the Cover 2 era, whether it was Tommie Harris disrupting the middle or Julius Peppers on the edge - you needed to have one well above average dlinemen and other parts to do the job.

Maybe the Bears 2nd and 3rd round picks evolve to that point - but they aren't there yet and they were raw to begin with (which isn't a huge surprise). We are also talking about 2nd & 3rd rounders (with the 2nd rounder being a later"ish" pick).  Now Poles needs to hit on his picks, you will have misses, but he also has to have hits across his drafts.

I actually think the Bears have players at other levels of the defense - but none of it works without a more disruptive line.  Not saying the best line in football - but this is the worse dline in football (or at the very least bottom 3).  That is a big problem and I do put some of that on Poles.  Or Poles knew that would be an issue, hoped it wouldn't be this bad, but just realized that was all he could do from a team building perspective given all the holes to fill.

If you need hall of famers to make the scheme work, it's not the defensive scheme that is making it work it is the hall of famers.

Urlacher made Lovie's scheme work.  Imagine him in a scheme that was more imaginative for him.

Why invest if LB and DB if they needed a DL to make it work.

They are historically bad and that is his specialty.

The Cubs were known as "lovable losers" for a century and 2 years ago they nuked the core of the most beloved team in franchise history.

Both franchises are habitual losers. It's just that one turned it into marketing genius.

Nuked the team and nobody has gone on to do anything after the nuclear meltdown.  It was a great move by them as opposed to paying young talent to turn around and do nothing.

They are playing meaningful baseball on September 28th.  I would die for that.

Regardless of what happens over the next two days, I envy them.

The idiots running the White Sox trade away Tatis and Semien for middling pitchers.

It’s astonishing how awful Benintendi is

I believe that is the signing that pushed JR to his decision.  That is some serious wasted coin.

If JR is a fraction of the fan that he thinks he is, Bellinger was the a no brainer pick up. Really is no legitimate reason to have not signed him.  A short term lightning in the bottle specialty.

Yeah, but also look what he has to work with.

This is one of those situations where the GM knew they were going to tank last year so he can't hold that against the coach. And this year he knew they still weren't going to be good but expects improvements. Poles is going to get a bad rep with coaches when he fires the coach when he told the coach they weren't going to be good.

The defensive scheme is terrible and he is the coach in charge of that.

His hand picked DC seems like a poor choice as well.

If he was hired because dopey George and Ted liked him and forced him on Poles that could end his tenure sooner especially if Warren and Poles are on the same page.

When do we get to hear how angry Virginia is?

Brant Brown dropped the ball.  Suzuki didn't even get a glove on his.  Sizemore's hit him in the thigh.  Lost it in the sun cuz the weather god was on our side.  Hurricane Rita veered east and the sun came out in KC that day.

    Remember the radio call?

BIG VOICE: BRANT BROWNNNN ... DROPS THE BALL!

    little voice Oh no!

BIG VOICE: HE DROPS THE BALL.

    little voice: noooooooooooo!

Just remembered.   Cubs made the playoffs that year.

Was that the 163 game v the Giants?

Only team with solid pitching in the NL right now is the Brewers who do not matchup well with the cubs.

Clevenger would have been a great get for any NL team.
