QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 06:30 AM) I don't seem to recall the press being this interested in a sex scandal when you had a Presidential contender screwing around on his sick wife. There were even details in that one, and no confidentiality agreements to get in the way. Newt?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) I'm also reading that the debt to equity, the leverage ratio, for Corzine's mess was something like 40 to 1. It was like they saw Lehman Brothers balance sheets circa 2006 and thought "WOW!"

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) Come on. Why else "hate" someone you've never met? Plenty of people hate plenty of athletes and other media personalities whom they've never met. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) The problem is that the reason why he gets that fellation is that he loves Jesus...that and the big fans of Florida as well...so it's indirectly because of the Christian thing. The problem is the fawning, not that's he's religious or vocal about it. Warner is an evangelical born-again Christian and active in that community, but no one really dislikes him because of it. Probably because the media didn't waste so much time obsessing over it. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) Come on. Why else "hate" someone you've never met? He's religious, he shows it and he doesn't apologize for it. Might not be the total explanation, but it's a big part. The abortion ad certainly didn't help. It's not because of Tebow himself but the fellation he receives from some of the media; "he changes your life" or articles about how he's the first nice guy to play football ever and signs autographs for middle-aged fans! (who will sell them on eBay) and how he's just so amazing! It makes me want to throw up. Kurt Warner is super-religious but people didn't hate him for it because the media didn't portray him as a saint because of it. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 12:32 PM) I didn't know where to put this, so here goes. After 72 days, Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries are divorcing. Way to stick it out. $$$$$

Well there doesn't seem to be any contention that he did throw it down the stairs and then shot it. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/local-bre...t-incident.html http://voices.washingtonpost.com/crime-sce...hot-parrot.html

apparently that incident occurred a year ago, here's the police report for the other perspective

so for some reason my xbox won't read Batman: Arkham City. I exchanged it for a new disc with no luck. It plays every other DVD and game I've put in without a problem. WTF.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 01:49 PM) Seemed to me that most of that was out of fear, not love or admiration. I'm sure he has some followers in the military, but not anywhere else. The bigger problem is what to do with China and Russia. You'd basically have to get their approval before doing anything. It's as if the entire country has been living in a cult for the last 60 years. I don't know how well their society would function if The Glorious Leader were suddenly gone.

Just watched that episode last night. Awesome that the plant owner is running for office, too.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) I watched a special about a group that went into NK under the guise of offering free dental care to people, and snuck cameras in. It was just amazing to watch and listen to the people, even if their own homes as to how dedicated they were to Il. They even said prayers to him at meals. It was like watching the worlds biggest cult in action. There was a similar NatGeo documentary following a doctor giving cataract surgery and teaching NK's doctors on how to perform it. Malnutrition is rampant and many people get them at a young age.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 08:53 AM) So we don't get more drug addicts Americans to ruin their lives? Drugs are already criminalized, but that hasn't stopped a damn thing. I lost my uncle this week due to alcoholism. I look forward to your support for prohibition and routine breathalyzer testing.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 08:52 AM) Paternal like all of the other governmental regulatory bodies that require all of their compliance procedures to be taken place.... Oh like mandatory health care, tax returns, social security, EPA, etc, etc Right, that's at least along the same line (not sure about tax returns?). I don't support any and all regulations, and I don't support criminalized drug laws, and I really don't support unnecessary and expensive drug testing for government benefits. But I don't ideologically oppose paternal or paternal-like government actions, while conservatives generally do, or at least claim to. If you're going to make an argument in favor of such strong paternal actions, you can't turn around and criticize other programs or laws based on their paternal nature.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 08:51 AM) Nobody seems to care when something like Dodd-Frank or SOX does that, why is this so different? Good point, drug testing every American citizen for...some reason...is analogous to banking regulations such that we don't get more Enrons and Lehman Brothers.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 08:49 AM) I guess that means you never get to ask for regulations and rules for anything again. That doesn't really follow, while on the other hand you can't get much more paternal government than "drug test every single American"

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2011 -> 08:47 AM) lol @ the idea that those things aren't taking place already. You don't get to ever complain about a single thing along the lines of "nanny state" ever again. Anyway, these would be new invasions and new costs and new burdens, so your point here doesn't make any sense.
