  1. Bush's temporary "surplus" tax cuts: absolutely vital to a functioning economy, who cares if they primarily benefit the wealthy? Obama's temporary payroll tax cut: who cares, let it expire, it only really helps those poors, anyway. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/articl...066437dd437299d Buried in the article is an admission that the Laffer Curve, which seems to be GOP dogma these days, is a joke:
  2. Alternatively, Eliminate the Kap.
  3. lol they actually had to make a "how to preorder" guide http://community.batmanarkhamcity.com/foru...64366#post64366
  4. these pre-order bonuses are really annoying.
  5. Eliminate the cap.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) It means they gave up their third round pick next year, so yes, you can reach. Did not know that.
  7. It's a 3rd in the supplemental, not in the regular draft. Is there such thing as a reach in the supplemental?
  8. It's not the official position of the paper, just their lead economic editor and is in line with pretty much every editorial they publish.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) This is a signed editorial by Stephen Moore, one of the WSJ's Op-ed writers, not an unsigned opinion piece representing the paper. While I wouldn't be surprised if a substantial fraction of their editorial staff agreed, it is incorrect to label this as the "WSJ" going into that mode. He's the WSJ's lead economic editorial writer. John Chait lays into his "argument" pretty harshly.
  10. There's a whole lot of racism coming out of this, but this might take the cake:

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 08:52 AM) I rented Cedar Rapids the other day, it was bad but it wasnt as funny throughout as I would have like it to be considering the cast. John C Reilly was great though, I love his characters in movies. It was just so blah. Couple of semi-funny moments in a boring story with boring characters.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 11:08 AM) Neighbor's gutter system is whack, and water is just spilling into our side yard creating a god damned pond. I've asked him to fix it nicely, since I don't like the idea of my house touching a f***ing lake. It's been over a month and the problem persists. I just went out and took pictures during this f***ing ridiculous downpour. What should I do next? Strongly worded letter? Contact city/county officials, could be code violations. My in-laws have been fighting their neighbor pumping water into their yard from his cracked well for years. He keeps getting violations and fines, pays for lawyers, loses and generally spends a hell of a lot more than it would cost to just fix the damn thing. Or, classify your property as lakefront!
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 12:11 PM) And you know this how? Walker only wants to work for the White Sox. So many people think saying something to someone and throwing pixie dust into the air will make anyone a .330 hitter with 40 home run potential. Beckham is struggling right now. Its not uncommon in young players. Heyward is struggling. Morrision was sent to the minors under the guise he was struggling. BJ Upton has struggled. Delmon Young has been pretty bad. More struggle than do not. It sometimes takes a while. You can pick any hitting coach out there and someone is struggling under their "watch". Anyone who has ever played should know you can know exactly what you are doing wrong and exactly what needs to be done to correct it, but it still takes a while. You have to have it built in. If you go up to the plate thinking about 100 things, you are screwed. As for Beckham's swing. Let me get this straight, the Sox draft Beckham, he goes to the minor leagues and Walker calls up and tells him he needs to change his swing? Is that how this went? Please give me what you're smoking. As Ozzie said, the minor leagues are for instruction. In the majors is tweaks. If you have no idea how to hit when you get to the major leagues, again, you're screwed. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) The best (only?) defense of Walker is that hitting coaches don't matter. That's pretty sad.
  16. Anyway there's simply a different definition that other people hold of when something becomes human and when a woman loses dominion over her body to the fetus living inside of her. That doesn't make opposition to capital punishment bizarre or nonsensical.
  17. Brain activity doesn't begin until something like the 6th week. It's still an embryo at that point. Even by the time it's actually a fetus, it's not like the brain or heart are really developed or functional.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) The authors point is that if you get inside the data and get past the inherent biases and misleads, there is more to the numbers than meets the eye. Here's a much better actual look at the numbers instead of the hack job done by the National Review. Texas has actually had the 6th-fastest growing hourly wage rate since the recession hit.
  19. The EPA is rolling out new regulations that will lead to the shutdown of the nation's worst coal-fired plants. ALEC and the power companies have been shouting that this will lead to billions in losses and shutting down as much as 20% of coal-plants, and that energy prices will skyrocket and destroy the economy. Environmentalists were saying their claims were overblown. The Congressional Research Service issued its non-partisan report today. Yes, this will force the closure of some of the oldest, worst-polluting coal plants in the nation that were grandfathered in under the CAA. Yes, new emissions controls equipment or new plants will cost money. As much as $2.8B. But that pales in comparison to the estimated $290B saved in healthcare costs by 2014.
  20. I would not love for the budget to always be balanced.
  21. Same with the sun, since nuclear physics wasn't yet known the only possible source was combustion which gave a ridiculously low estimate. But basically once Lyell came around the idea figuring out the age of the earth by tracing back religious lineages was tossed out.
  22. JULIE marking a little more than necessary but still performing a function of their job seems pretty different from Metra taking a bunch of walnuts off of your lawn.
  23. Chiefs rookie WR Jon Baldwin fractures his hand on Thomas Jones's jaw.
  24. Actually quick google search reminded me of the "age crisis" that existed until the 90's. The universe was thought to be around 10b years old but the same calculations showed stars at the center of the galaxy at 13-20b years old. Something was obviously off here. Further research led to new discoveries that solved the problem neatly and gave us the current estimate of 13.7b +/-.
