QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 26, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) Were you even listening on Tuesday night? LeBron totally changed his routine team to be capable of beast mode come this time of year after getting his ass beat going deep into the playoffs year after year by his f***ing self. Yoga, weights, training, gym. It ain't no picnic, and it doesn't happen by magic. fyp

The Democrat Thread
Doesn't really explain or excuse the Republicans' tactics of forcing everyone to go along with their terrible policies so that they don't sabotage everything. edit Obama didn't really have the option of not signing this, as Balta pointed out, because Joplin needs the money ASAP. Which, if anything, highlights the sociopathy of the Republicans exploiting a natural tragedy to cut funding for a clean energy program they don't like.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) I have to agree with this... look at LeBron's f***ing frame and how ripped he is. He's f***ing huge. That's not magic. I've been working for 5 months to drop weight and add muscle. Sure, it's his job, but LeBron is a physical beast and that doesn't happen by sitting on your ass. Lifting weights isn't the same as working on your game, though.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) Lebron is one of the hardest workers in the NBA (at least thats what I thought), they were just pacing themselves in the regular season. He's not necessarily lazy in-game, but he's not really known for busting his ass and working on his game in the summer, right? He should be an unstoppable domination machine with his size, athleticism and skills but he's never bothered with a post game.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) What I'm saying is why are the Bulls supposed to be a harder working team? The Heat had their issues earlier. But it wasn't because of lack of work ethic. It's all about expectations. The Heat were supposed to win 75 games. They didn't. So they weren't trying? The Bulls played all-out pretty much all year. The Heat did not. Bosh took games off. Lebron's never been known as an excessively hard-worker (he'd be completely unstoppable if he was one of the most dedicated guys).

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:29 PM) Their effort is what has surprised me. I never expected them to match the Bulls in work ethic. When James and Wade and Bosh play just as hard as the Bulls, they're going to win.

Arizona requires you to carry your papers
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 26, 2011 -> 02:16 PM) It wont be done nationally because it was a states rights ruling. So all we are going to get is states competing versus states, but finally Illinois gets the advantage being one of the most pro-illegal friendly states. Usually we business profits are on the losing end with EPA guidelines, state taxes etc. while the majority of citizens benefit from less pollution, more social services, better education, etc.

Arizona requires you to carry your papers
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 26, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) Southsider, I think you mean the AZ law is the quickest way to cause businesses that employ illegal immigrants to pack up shop and move to New Mexico, Teas or California. Its the price you pay for govt interfering with the supply of labor. Just like SC getting an advantage over Washington because of less union laws, other states will have an advantage over AZ because of illegal immigrants. Seems silly to hurt your own economy. There's a giant moral problem with that argument, though. Illegal immigrants are often heavily exploited by employers. I'd be in favor of legalizing more immigrants so that they can be legally hired and less likely to be taken advantage of.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 26, 2011 -> 01:35 PM) If you're going to force states to assure an employee's legal status (or at least force them to make a good faith effort), then I don't see why they shouldn't be able to require their businesses to use the E-verify system in furtherance of that obligation. 2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) After game 2 I said exactly this. I've totally changed my tune. Miami is blowing me away with how they're beating the Bulls despite the Bulls throwing the kitchen sink at them on defense. Miami is out-offensing the bulls and out-defensing the Bulls. That's blowing me away. And yet the Bulls, with considerably less star power including not having the most talented player in the NBA, were one shot away from the series being 2-2 and had a legitimate chance in Game 2. With no SG and Noah seriously regressing. And Korver, one of their main scoring threats, missing everything.

Part of the reason why we give Israel so much money: This isn't new or surprising. Fundamentalists Christians love Israel because it fits with their end-times theology.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 26, 2011 -> 01:12 PM) Yeah. Other than that they had no hope. Edited for correctness, they were within 2 early in the 4th of Game 3. In Game 2, they were tied with ~7 minutes to go. Tuesday, they were one shot away from winning it in regulation. But we may as well crown them 2011 champions, 2012 champions, hell, give 'em a 6-peat and don't even worry about the looming lockouts.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 26, 2011 -> 12:07 PM) The Bulls haven't looked like a team with a prayer for 3 straight games. Except for when they had a chance to win Game 4 with a couple seconds left. Or had it down 2 in the 4th in Game 3. Or had it tied with 7 minutes to go in Game 2.

Arizona requires you to carry your papers
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2011 -> 01:04 PM) A system that ends the incentives for businesses to stop hiring illegal aliens is the quickest way to fix immigration in this country. Yeah but there's some huge jurisdictional issues here. Mainly, it's not the State's jurisdiction. I haven't read the opinion, but the quote from Roberts in the article doesn't really address the problem. Sure, maybe it's inline with Federal laws right now, but it could be very quickly out of line if they changed the law and it'd take some amount of time before AZ could modify and be back in line.

The Ghost of Jim Thome is Killing Us
QUOTE (chw42 @ May 26, 2011 -> 11:51 AM) Do you have a counter for all of these things? Because it's obvious you forgot to do some fact checking. Thome hit as many grounders as he hit fly balls in his career and the trend was generally the same his time here in Chicago. You made it sound like grounds into more double plays than Konerko, but he had seasons of 4, 10, 18, and 8 GIDPs from 2006 to 2009. Konerko during that time? 25, 21, 17, and 15. Singles accounted for 52% of Thome's hits while he was here in Chicago. So basically, he hit more singles than home runs and doubles combined. Thome didn't pull the ball all the time. In fact, he had more hits to center and left field (291) than he had to right field (183) during his stint with the Sox. Thome's numbers with RISP: 2006: .339 2007: .313 2008: .306 2009: .253 He's not the reason the Sox pitchers faltered in 06 during the second half of the season. He's not the reason why the bullpen blew up in 07. He was part of the reason why the White Sox won the 2008 division title. He was not the reason the White Sox choked in 09. You can think whatever you like, but there's nothing wrong with having a hitter who can only hit for power and draw walks. Jim Thome is a Hall of Famer who produced very well for the Sox, you can't blame him for his teammates' failures. Demolished.

The Ghost of Jim Thome is Killing Us
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 25, 2011 -> 07:32 PM) Anybody on this team that also played on a Sox team with Thome should be traded immediately. I'm so sick of watching all these guys do the Thome: You know, close your eyes and swing hard as f*** at everything. We've been all or nothing for so long I can't even remember what team baseball looks like. Thanks Jim. Your poison still remains, potent as ever...sucking the soul out of once line-drive hitters. Even poor young Beckham has a BS pull swing now. It's too bad Ozzie is gonna take the blame for all the long swings. ...you're joking, right?
