QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 18, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) WI had one of the highest corporate tax rates in the country. I have no problem with him trying to make tax cuts there, and then trying to offset them. Race to the bottom!

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 18, 2011 -> 12:20 PM) Oddly enough, SOME of Walker's tactics would be more beneficial here than in Wisconsin. I think Walker is acting like an ass, but he's trying to make deep and difficult cuts, which Illinois needs. Quinn is raising taxes but making only small and insufficient cuts, which is more what Wisconsin needs. He's trying to make cuts and bust unions based on his personal politics to cover a budget gap he created. This doesn't seem like a difficult choice for him.

2010-2011 NBA Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 18, 2011 -> 10:08 AM) That game was the ultimate entertainment last night. The Bulls handled the Spurs without our starting center playing. Oh, and f*** Bethlehem Shoals. It seems all D-Rose has to do is read an idiotic piece and then go out and show said f***tard that he means business. I thought they did a pretty good job on B&B yesterday steering the criticism away from Shoals. He wasn't saying Rose isn't really good at basketball. He wasn't saying that he doesn't deserve to be an all-star. He just, completely subjectively, doesn't like Rose's game. There's not anything wrong with that. I don't agree with him, but he wasn't really harshly criticizing Rose.

also this: the whole right-to-work, anti-union, business-friendly state thing is kinda interesting in that it basically takes the neoliberal model for the third world and applies it to US states, i.e., democratically elected governments coerced into pliant vassalage by corporate interests holding the livelihoods of their people hostage. gut your state's protections and benefits for workers so they can enjoy the opportunity to make us rich in exchange for subsistence! it's not just for the global south anymore!

Not that Quinn isn't an asshat, but I'm so glad Brady didn't win. Otherwise IL would be going through the same s***.

Sure, and there's a fair point in pointing out hypocritical violent images or rhetoric since a lot on the left jumped all over the right after the AZ shooting. I just don't get why the Mubarak sign is evidence that this will "spin out of control"

The Republican Thread
Wait, why is comparing him to Mubarak supposed to be so terrible? I mean, yeah, it's hyperbolic and silly, but Mubarak was removed from office in a pretty peaceful manner and still has billions of dollars.

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 04:59 PM) Tip of the day: Non-dairy powdered coffee creamer is highly flammable. The machines that produce and package that stuff have all sorts of additional sealing and testing on them to make sure sparks from motors or other components won't blow the plant up. Same principle as grain silo disasters.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) I think this is a worth-while editorial with an additional note on how the WI situation came about... The programs he established through votes in January were some corporate tax cuts and additional money for Health-Savings accounts. The Governor actually generated his own fiscal imbalance to start this. This needs to be hammered on repeatedly to counter the anti-workers-rights narrative. It's a crisis that was created by Republicans to pass Republican projects at the expense of public workers.- The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Feb 17, 2011 -> 12:21 PM) Someone please tell the "we have the best interest of our students" teachers in Wisconsin that electons have consequences. Deal with it! Someone tell Republicans that the budget was balanced before Walker enacted additional spending, that he's exempting some unions as political favor, and that the budget can be balanced even with Walker's additional spending without stripping collective bargaining rights. Stupid fiscal policy that raises popular unrest has consequences. Deal with it!- The Democrat Thread
