  1. The whole point of these "gig jobs" is to allow companies like Uber to flout labor laws (among many other laws) in the pursuit of profit. e: The Dollop had a good episode on Uber last year https://thedollop.libsyn.com/271-uber
  2. we're reliving 2000-2004 all over again, only dumber and faster
  3. looks like the surgery was on March 1st, two months and a week ago https://www.mlb.com/whitesox/news/white-sox-prospect-jake-burger-out-for-season/c-267362640 By Richard Justice MLB.com @RichardJustice Feb. 27th, 2018 GLENDALE, Ariz. -- White Sox rookie third baseman Jake Burger, one of the brightest stars in a loaded farm system, has a ruptured left Achilles tendon and will undergo season-ending surgery on Thursday in Chicago.
  4. from W's international torture regime: also, of course Evan Bayh continues to be awful
  5. If that ipad wasn't encrypted and password protected and if they didn't remotely wipe it the second it was reported stolen, fire the entire Bears IT staff.
  6. Unemployment drops down to 3.9% as we continue the years-long trend of adding 150k-200k jobs month-after-month-after-month. Some thoughts from an econ professor on what that means for the future trend of unemployment and wages
  7. I'm still proud of Chicago for running him and his coward supporters outta town with only some extremely mild protest action
  8. I just listened to this story this weekend, seems relevant tl;dl when the Klan, which was really strong in Indiana in the 1920's, tried to come hold a march in South Bend, Notre Dame students fought back, lured them into alleys, beat them and and generally just chased them out of town. The ND President made the "Fighting Irish" the school mascot shortly after that.
  9. I haven't really listened to the score in a year or so, but there was nothing that would get me to change the station more quickly than gambling talk
  10. I swear I didn't steal my "trump is a symptom not the disease" language from this very good and correct article: https://newrepublic.com/article/148142/republican-party-not-trump-real-threat-american-democracy The Republican Party, Not Trump, Is the Real Threat to American Democracy By JEET HEER April 27, 2018
  11. this doesn't seem like it'd be legal
  12. Trump isn't the problem, he's just a symptom of the rot By the way, this guy is a former Trump admin official and now an official at the group pence was speaking at Getting rid of Trump doesn't come close to solving the problem
  13. trump is a symptom, not the disease speaking of global Bush's torture regime

  15. Yeah, Bush tried to push for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. He tortured people and spied on Americans illegally. His tax policy was the same as Trump's. He tried to make Harriet Miers a supreme court justice. Trump is just using a bullhorn and no sense of shame for the same stuff the GOP has been doing forever.

    2018 catch-all

I thought only sex offenders had distance-from-schools/childrens's places restrictions? The guy murdered people in a botched robbery 46 years ago. I dunno how much of a threat he poses specifically to children.
  17. hey speaking of how great neoliberal economic principles work for the masses sure, workers are passing out in his warehouses and have to get food stamps because they're paid so little, but Bezos can't think of any possible way to spend his vast wealth besides "space travel"
