I thought only sex offenders had distance-from-schools/childrens's places restrictions? The guy murdered people in a botched robbery 46 years ago. I dunno how much of a threat he poses specifically to children.
  2. hey speaking of how great neoliberal economic principles work for the masses sure, workers are passing out in his warehouses and have to get food stamps because they're paid so little, but Bezos can't think of any possible way to spend his vast wealth besides "space travel"
  3. Right, there's a distinction there in what may have motivated that person to vote. But ultimately, you get the whole package. And Trump's whole package includes an awful lot of white christian supremacy. So while that may not have been what got those people to vote, that is still the package they voted for.
  4. yeah I'm not sure what happened there. I pasted it, and normally that works fine, but I edited the post to remove the ref from the twitter link. that seems to have broken it somehow? and then I deleted and reposted with the same effect? fake edit: huh, weird. if you click that link above, even though I edited it, the ref tag still loads for some reason. I had to find the tweet itself without the ref tag and copy-paste that, now it appears to work. must be something with how it converts the link which means you can't go back and edit the url and still have it work, you gotta paste it in correct the first time
  5. edit fixed link
  6. it can both be true that 60 million people voted for white christian supremacy, something Trump's campaign was fairly explicit about and his administration has been very explicit about, and also that the Democrats can't just rely on pointing that out if they want to win elections. I'm also gonna say that the blame for the "doom" lays at the feet of the conservative movement who's degraded American society and politics for decades and whose inevitable results were first the likes of Palin and now Trump. Conservatives have almost entirely eagerly gotten behind the Trump administration.

  9. Yeah it was a bunch of stuff the IAEA and the US have known about since at least 2011...and what the Iran deal was based around.

We did the whole portion you're allowed on a day hike plus the side trek up Orderville Canyon, maybe 14 miles round trip if you don't count the endless zig-zags across the river bed. I've never been more tired in my life, and the steak I ate that night was the most delicious meal I've ever had.

Mt. Rainier is gorgeous and definitely worth the drive imo, even if you just want to spend a couple of hours around Paradise (main lodge/visitor's center area) I'm sure BS can offer more recommendations, but there's a big central park area with lots of museums, restaurants, stores etc. You could always do a whale watching trip.
  14. He called Nazis marching in Charlottesville who murdered a protester "very fine people" and tried to blame "both sides." He still enjoys ~40% support. So you tell me if he and his base are really that bad.
  15. Corps have largely either been sitting on enormous piles of cash or using the money for stock buybacks and executive bonuses rather than reinvestment or widespread wage increases.

  19. it's the "Old Economy Steve" meme come to life e: if you look at the actual reasons given by both the Finnish government and the OECD, which that author just dismissed as "boring," they recommend replacing the trial universal basic income with a universal credit system instead. it's sort of the opposite of that guy's hilariously out of touch claims. https://oecdecoscope.wordpress.com/2018/02/28/why-would-a-universal-credit-be-better-than-a-basic-income-for-finland/ e2: "look I hate getting up to work hard in the coal mines!" :is a sports writer: lol
