  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 4, 2007 -> 11:43 AM) Personally I don't think Konerko, Dye, Crede, AJP, Iguchi , Mackowiak, have really forgotten how to hit, and I really don't think bringing someone in not familiar with them at all is really going to make an immediate impact. The team will start hitting. Maybe even this weekend. What do you base that on? Their month of ineptness?
  2. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 4, 2007 -> 11:29 AM) He's right. Its funny all the Walker has to go people didn't have much to say about Cooper when the best rotation ever assembled stunk up the place last season, and the defending world champs finished 3rd in the division. Way too much blame is being put on Walker. What do you expect an offense to be like when your leadoff man is a below average OBP guy. When AJP is batting 3rd or 4th. When you use Alex Cintron and Brian Anderson as a DH? The offense's lack of production is just as much KW and Ozzie's fault as anyone elses. How often do the Sox hit and run when they have someone on first, rather than try and put 2 runs on the board? It's not entirely lack of production that is the cause of all of this. Look at their swings and their mechanics. They're terrible.

Another quality episode. This show is fantastic.
  4. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ May 3, 2007 -> 11:51 PM) And had they been real instead of figments of a bad writer's imagination. . . LOL. Yeah, I usually check out articles like this. Just lazy tonight, I guess. QUOTE(BobDylan @ May 3, 2007 -> 11:26 PM) Sigh... Moan...
  5. The police would have protected her better! No need for personal firearms!
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 3, 2007 -> 02:33 PM) Snuggery was a chain of hot bars in the Chicago suburbs. IIRC they had four or five locations, including one near Motorola on Algonquin is Schaumburg. Last time I was there it became The Alumni Club. I used them as an example of how fickle the club business is. Alumni club's still there. I just saw it last week.
  7. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 3, 2007 -> 12:20 PM) Yes they can. Weeks and weeks trying to get adjusted to a new approach., Not trusting the new guy. I think the risk is about equal on both paths and prefer coaching changes in the off season. Are they really going to get worse than they are? And if so, does it matter? The current output isn't going to get them anywhere near the playoffs.

Are you serious? I just looked at Fox's website and they have the questions from that show. Those are so ridiculously easy. http://fox.com/areyousmarter/features/index.htm?week=5
  9. No good option for me. I've never gone, but I may go one day. Not soon, though.
  10. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 2, 2007 -> 06:35 PM) Long term though, there is still another major issue; is there actually enough arable land to produce the supplies energy consumption will demand as oil prices keep going up? If more and more food supplies keep being required for energy, then it's quite possible that the market won't be able to keep up with the demand. I've heard that a majority of the Midwest would have to convert to growing ethanol corn to meet the targets Bush set last year.
  11. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ May 2, 2007 -> 06:23 PM) Responsibility denotes some sort of consequence for failing. That is where the problem exists. CEO's get paid a ton of money to lead a company, but even if the company does miserably, there are simply no negative consequences at all. In fact, they often get paid a big chunk of change when they leave or even for years after. Therefore, no, they do not have HUGE responsibility. They should, but do not. Bingo. With responsibility comes accountability. CEO's that fail miserably but still receive large sums of money aren't being held responsible for their failures.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 2, 2007 -> 06:32 PM) If you own a car dealership and want to open on Sunday you should be able to. Why do we have these laws? Because industry likes them. If all the bars are smoke free, the bars save the money on smoking related issues. Since people would have to drive to Wisconsin or Indiana for a smoke and a shot, it probably won't effect their bottom line. Just because something is legal, doesn't mean you can do it anywhere you want. Try stripping at WalMart or drinking at Blockbuster. What is Illinois doing about Hookah bars? Industry didn't like the Orland bans and got them overturned quickly (Superbowl business loses were a big part of that).

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 2, 2007 -> 06:16 PM) My future Lingenfelter Corvette disagrees. Sorry, should have said production. And you'll still be hard-pressed to be it's 5 second run to 100 MPH.
  14. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 2, 2007 -> 05:42 PM) Leave the CEO's alone. They worked their way to the top so they deserve it. I get so sick of hearing about "upper management" on a daily basis. It's hard to say some CEO's deserve 25M in severance pay for running a company into the ground...
  15. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 2, 2007 -> 05:49 PM) Without the government enforcement no bar would do that because they are losing business and not enough people would go to a bar just because it was smoke free anyway. Uh, exactly. Demand isn't big enough so there isn't supply. If enough people want it, it will exist. Market forces are very strong. Demand for smoking bars > demand for smokeless bars
  16. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 2, 2007 -> 05:39 PM) I bet every nonsmoker notices the smell when you are around them. So when should I expect my bottle of Febreeze? I'm not going to pay to rid the smell of something use caused. I think the Government should stay out of private businesses' decisions, but I really can't stand the smell of burning tobacco and it's really unattractive when a cute girl pulls out a cancer stick. I don't smoke. And I agree, the least attractive thing a girl can do is smoke. I will say that I have enjoyed the smoking bans in restaurants. If I'm going out to a bar though, I don't mind it. Maybe its because many of my friends smoke, so whenever I'm out, be it at a bar or a party, there's a lot of smokers.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 2, 2007 -> 05:41 PM) The White Sox were 9th in offense in 2005. The White Sox had three relievers have career-years in 2005. Can we count on this bullpen to hold every 1-run lead they get, like they did in 2005?
  18. We're dead last in hits and doubles and 2nd to last in triples. But we're tied for second in HR's!
  19. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ May 2, 2007 -> 05:38 PM) Well, if the Sox were in 9th place right now, they'd have 20 more runs, and probably 3 or 4 more wins, so that's pretty good. Striving to be below average is never a good thing.
  20. Their OBP was also 14th in the AL Post-ASB, ahead of only Tampa Bay. They were, of course, 2nd in home runs! http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggreg...amp;season=2006
  21. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ May 2, 2007 -> 05:35 PM) Are you sure about that? I thought they were middle of the pack instead of at the bottom. It would be difficult to finish 3rd in runs scored overall for the season if you're basically at the bottom for one half. They were dominating until just after the ASB. After that, they were terrible. Pre-ASB: 520 Runs, 1st place Post-ASB: 348 Runs, 9th place
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ May 2, 2007 -> 05:32 PM) How much credit are y'all giving the coach? To listen to this place Crede = A-Rod with a better hitting coach. These guys have to step up and start playing. If these guys started blaming the coaches you would all starting howling how they are scape goating. I am certain everyone of these guys has been watching tape of when they could hit. Y'all are making a bunch of excuses for guys who are slumping or not playing up to their potential. When everyone on the team is having the same problems, you need to look at the common factors. Greg thinks these guys have great mechanics now and has retooled several players' swings in the past to be homerun swings (which sent their ability to hit line drives into the gutter). He is just not a good hitting coach.
  23. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ May 2, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) If our offense performed like the 2nd half of last season, that wouldn't be a problem, imo. The problem was our pitching during the 2nd half was horrendous, for the most part. It's pretty good right now. They were near the bottom in runs scored during the 2nd half of last season. What are you talking about?
