  1. It wasn't just that. It was also the data set they selected, what they left out, the very limited data some of their comparisons came from, and whether they actually got the causation in the right direction in the first place (does high debt/GDP ratio lead to sluggish growth, or does sluggish growth/global recession lead to high debt/GDP ratios?) But you're right, it's just another part of the Zombie Economics that will never die.
  2. Just gave it a listen, it's not grabbing me the first time through like their last two did.
  3. Oh, right, that seems more likely. Just when he thinks he's out, they pull him back in...
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) He also yesterday made clear he doesn't understand what the debt limit is. Just a weird dude. Wasn't sure what this was referring to, but wow: http://www.marketplace.org/topics/election...-carson-economy He also seems to be expressing some goldbuggery: Ryssdal then presses him some more on what he'd actually cut instead of his generic "3-4% from everything" He flatly admits to not specifying anything he'd actually do because people would be opposed to it. eta: Nah, that's been pretty conclusively refuted.
  5. If the House doesn't have a Speaker at the end of the month for the first time since 1855, then there's a serious danger of hitting the debt ceiling on November 5th and no bill being able to move through Congress to address it.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 12:48 PM) Sure, we should go ahead and do this. White Sox path to the World Series: 1. Score more runs 2. Give up less runs So simple, I don't know why they haven't tried it.
  7. Several of the shooting victims have needed to set up GoFundMe pages to cover their massive medical bills. https://www.gofundme.com/s75ge9y4
  8. McCarthy withdraws candidacy for speaker Wow. edit: wonder if it's related to his Benghazi admission
  9. His advice after the Oregon shooting was that he'd calmly and coolly explain to the shooter that he could shoot him, but he couldn't shoot everyone if they all rushed at once. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/ben-carson-...ory?id=34310265
  10. Carson: I've Had A Gun Held On Me And I Told The Guy To Attack Someone Else (AUDIO)
  11. Fox Chicago news was on briefly as I went to bed last night. The reporter walking around Waveland or wherever was asking people if they "have been waiting their whole lives for this." Unless they were born in November 2008 or later, they've seen the Cubs get exactly this far already. Calm down on the hype, dude.
  12. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 08:39 PM) Which I think was originally trashed by critics, correct? I was a huge fan of Hook. So was I, but I was also about 10 at the time. No idea how well it's held up.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 05:28 PM) Guys, most rational people agree with me. America is not safe. America is less safe than 20 years ago. Cmon. Do you guys live in a bubble? This is some great performance art
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 02:03 PM) The world maybe. America? Safer than before? Cmon. You can make any stats fit any argument. America is a dangerous land. The greatest thing about this man is he's steady. You know where he stands. He believes the same thing Wednesday that he believed on Monday, no matter what happened Tuesday. Events can change; this man's beliefs never will.
  15. Graham opposed Sandy aid but wants help in South Carolina
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 03:18 PM) The worst people in the world are scientists complaining about hollywood space movies. Doug: In episode 2F09, when Itchy plays Scratchy's skeleton like a xylophone, he strikes the same rib in succession, yet he produces two clearly different tones. I mean, what are we to believe, that this is a magic xylophone, or something? Ha ha, boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder. Homer: I'll field that one. Let me ask *you* a question. Why would a grown man whose shirt says "Genius at Work" spend all of his time watching a children's cartoon show? [embarrassed pause] Doug: I withdraw my question.
  17. God said to Abraham "Kill me a son" Abe says "man, you must be puttin' me on" God say "no," Abe say "what" God say "you can do what you want Abe, but the next time you see me comin' you better run" Well Abe said "where you want this killin' done?" God says "out on Highway 61"
  18. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 24, 2015 -> 09:57 AM) Napali coast? Napali coast was fantastic but I think my favorite place was the Haleakala crater. It was like being on another planet.
  19. Heading to Shenandoah next weekend. I'm sure it'll be packed with it being a (federal) holiday weekend but we're looking forward to doing Old Rag Mountain. My wife's never spent much time out east and never in the mountains before.
  20. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 09:41 AM) Just for the record, Umpqua Community College is not a "gun free zone".
  21. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 03:52 PM) I heard it was shockingly funny- is this true? "One of the funniest movies I've ever seen" Lots of sarcasm from Damon but I wouldn't say it's one of the funniest ever
  22. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 03:46 PM) That disaster is just starting. Although the schedule will be nice to them. So they should probably win some of those. Also as far as coaching goes. That team is dysfunctional. Watch the OL play. They look lost. He did very well with the roster left over from Andy Reid. The moves he's been making looked bad at the time and even worse now.
