  1. I think I would be willing to trade almost any starting pitcher for the right package of players. It shouldn't matter if he is Chris Sale or Nolan Ryan or whomever. If you get back the right collection of talent, you move the player. This isn't basketball and this isn't a quarterback in football. I agree that you can't move him just for prospects - that's too risky. But if you got the right collection of mlb-ready talent or current mlb players, or a combination of these things with a prospect or two, I don't know why it matters if it's Chris Sale or what his contract is.
  2. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 07:54 AM) But that's exactly it. It was a nice trial run for you. What's the rush to get married? You had a lot easier out at that point before that time came at 28. Marrying at 20 is silly...someone can think they are mature, but as we all know, you really aren't, there's so much more to learn and a lot of room to grow. I'm sure you can attest to that. I have to imagine the divorce rate for those married at age 20 is a lot higher than it is for those married at 28. Maybe I'm wrong. I am 36 now, and have several friends that got married young...one couple is still super happy and acts the same way they did the day they got married; a few others are separated now and have been miserable for years; yet a few others seem to really be going through the motions to me. I think generally, people do not know who they are yet at 20...and if you are still learning about yourself, it's very difficult (IMHO) to know who it is that you want to spend the rest of your life with.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 07:22 AM) Eh, I think it works for some people. Just depends on her personality (i.e., maturity). My wife and I have been together since we were 20. Living together 95% of the time since 21. We didn't get married until we were 28, but that only made it official. We were living as if we were (got animals together, furniture together, etc.) that entire time. I was having a similar discussion with the fiancee last night. She was asking me when I wanted to actually get married, and I said, honestly, to me, it comes down to how much it is going to cost, because we may as well be married already. We bought a house together, and all the crap that goes along with that...now it's just a formality
  4. Thanks everyone! It's been quite a wild few months...
  5. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 08:33 AM) How'd it go? It went great. Came home with the car, she was all oogling over it and wanted to sit in the driver's seat and had this big smile on her face. I got down on a knee and said my little spiel. She was totally surprised, and very, very happy. We went out last night and celebrated with some friends of ours and had a great evening. Thanks for asking!
  6. QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 08:18 AM) Btw, I was slightly surprised by the fact that the last five couples I know to be married or engaged purchased rings online. I got mine online at JamesAllen.com Very solid experience...I recommend them highly. The ring is gorgeous...and unlike blue nile, they actually have the diamonds in their possession, so they have very high resolution pictures available to look for inclusions, etc. I actually was able to see the diamond much better that way then trying to look at them in stores in person. They send a discrete FedEx box for delivery, in case she intercepts it, and it comes with a very nice box, an appraisal, etc. I felt like everything was extremely well-priced, and she is absolutely in love with it.
  7. Well, went and did it again...traded in my Q5 for an Audi TT convertible...the girlfriend has always wanted a convertible, and I want my sports car back. I don't need the suv for the dogs anymore because she has a Honda Pilot that is paid off. Driving to SLC tomorrow to pick it up. Probably will take her for a spin when I get back tomorrow afternoon and pop the question...I think she'll be a happy girl...here's hoping she will anyways...
  8. Forgot to mention this when I saw it, but just heard it brought up on the radio...you guys notice how Tim Duncan was allowed to check into the game after the officials timeout to review the Ray Allen 3-pointer with 5 seconds left, or whatever? Illegal substitution. Would have been interesting to see what would have been said had the Spurs managed to score on that possession and win the game.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) WTH, a 6 person Jury? Is that a florida thing? Never ever heard of that?

  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 07:51 PM) Make no mistake. Crawford sucks tonight. He doesn't even react
  12. Come on Crawford...you've got to save one of those
  13. I want to believe in them so badly and put down some decent scratch with these odds, but I'm just on the fence a little without really knowing how beat up Hossa is.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 11:27 AM) You really want to sign Crain? What is he, 34? Guys... You know what make us different than the Astros, Marlins, and Cubs? Lack of long-term dead money committed. All three of those disastrous, long-term rebuild projects had to begin by sacrificing every shred of Major League talent for the sake of clearing dead money off the books. Drastic measures were required to clean it up and THAT's why they all have so far to go now to climb back up. THe White Sox do NOT have that problem. Nearly all of our dead money is off the books after next season in Dunn, Konerko, Thornton, and Floyd. Even Rios' contract turns to an option then. The only albatross we have at that point is Danks, who makes $15m. Alexei will be market rate. This is a massive advantage and this is why a rebuild is okay because it can begin and move quickly. The faster you get the core in place, the faster you can begin to complement it and get a winning team on the field. All the young talent we have can be a part of it, and we don;t have to wait forever for Alfonso Soriano or Carlos Lee to get off the books. The quickest way to lose that advantage is to sign more 34 year old veteran role players to market rate contracts to help our s*** team win 3 more games. Move those guys to get more potential core talent! Let's get this show on the road! No more lipstick on a pig -- we don't have to resign ourselves to a 6 year plan like the others because KW didn't screw us over like that. +1
  15. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 08:28 AM) That's probably also why he didn't call a timeout with 8 seconds left. I still don't see how under the rule that shot needs to be reviewed. The official was literally 5 feet away looking straight down the line at Allen. He had a better view than the camera did. I think what happened was that either a Spur called a timeout and they didn't want the game to be decided on a Chris Webber f*** up, OR, the officials themselves screwed up and anticipated that the Spurs would want to call a timeout and then quickly realized they had none, so they decided to review it. If the rule really is to review every shot, why didn't they review Lebrons three pointer? Yeah, it seemed like LeBron was under the impression that the Spurs had called timeout....but I don't know that he heard that or just assumed that when play was stopped.
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 08:02 AM) Manu having the ball is just a bad option at this point. Yes, he was terrific in game 5 but outside of that he has been an awful player in the playoffs. Because benching your best player on the last 2 possessions of the game when you have a chance to win a championship is absolutely insane. I dunno...Parker was completely wiped...I'm not sure he had anything left in the tank...and Manu...this is not new for him...he's been a wild card for the entire playoffs...but one thing he usually does do pretty well is go to the hole in crunch time. He's very good at taking contact or using the off hand. I don't think it was a terrible decision.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 08:06 AM) So are you suggesting that the Spurs would have been better off with no review? Pops was calling for the damn thing, and it NEEDED to be reviewed. Also, Van Gundy pointed out that it also gave the Spurs time to draw up a play. People need to stop spinning everything just to hate on the Heat and the refs. Actually, I think Pop was pretty pissed...he was screaming "you can't do that" at the refs after they stopped play.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 07:30 AM) You know what is weird, I thought Parker being on the bench at the end was a defense in/offense out strategy like the Bulls usually did with Boozer at the end of games. But then Ginobli got the ball and started running up the court with the ball and no timeout was called, and then I had no damn idea what Pops was doing I think it was, but then Manu going to the rack is usually a pretty good option for them, so I think Pop figured he would let him go to the hole.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 07:25 AM) I had no problem with them as no-calls, but the refs missed two pretty blatant fouls on the Spurs last two possessions. Bosh hacked Green on that last play too. The last few minutes in both regulation and OT were pretty much WWE wrestling matches...unless you hit someone with a chair, they weren't calling much. I don't care for it, but they called it that way for both sides. If you were going to score, you had to earn it, not just drive the lane looking for contact and then throw up some s***.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 09:22 PM) The refs weren't good but they were fair. There were different stretches where each team got calls tonight and there is no way I give Ginobili that call when he takes like 5 steps and was completely out of control when the contact wasn't egregious. Yeah, I think the same thing...he basically just put his head down and ran from the three point line to the middle of the lane and all Ray Allen did was sort of scrape at his arm...Ginobli being out of control sort of negated the contact by Allen in my view...
  21. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 09:20 PM) Ya the calls at the end of the game don't bother me at all. Parker being on the bench does. I think he was just exhausted...you could see him getting a bit wild towards the end of reg and the beginning of OT...I was thinking I would sit him down too right before Pop did it, but I didn't think he actually would...
  22. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 11:33 AM) @TimSassone Quenneville says Hossa likely to play tomorrow in Game 4. #Blackhawks Thanks!
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 11:08 AM) I heard rumors of broken bone, possibly foot. Not sure how they got that info. Yikes...might have to wait for something more definitive if that is the case...
  24. Anything new coming out on the radio waves out there in regards to Hossa?
