  1. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 30, 2013 -> 09:25 PM) After the smart hub performed some updates on itself (and that took forever!) things are running a bit smoother. Yikes, def not what I was expecting. Yeah, I haven't been able to get my new smart tv to pick up my wifi signal yet either.
  2. Happy BDay Kap! Enjoy your day!
  3. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 29, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) Oh hey UCLA, did you not learn Illnois' lesson last year? Van Pelt and Russillo, two of the brighter guys on sports radio, were discussing UCLA with Andy Katz and how these "mid-tier" jobs are really not viewed by many coaches as a lesser job than the first tier jobs...they might make 30% less or so, but they are able to win their league most years, they are comfortable with whom they work, they don't have the huge spotlight on them, and so generally they have a very high quality of life. Who needs all that pressure and scrutiny, and are those jobs really better?
  4. Hah, if we signed Verlander to this deal, we'd be super stoked
  5. Def Leppard tonight at the Joint...ohhhhh myyyyy
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 29, 2013 -> 09:13 AM) The turnovers were the remarkable thing. It's like they didn't even expect guys to be where they were. They averaged 13 TO's a game this year, which isn't very good, but they had that last night in 15 minutes. I think Kenny Smith made a good point...it wasn't even just the zone as much as it was Syracuse's length...they are just so much bigger than most teams.
  7. Get a library card and check books out to read.
  8. This is the changing face of operating a sports franchise...it is not a myth...teams that play in larger markets have more lucrative media deals. They have larger tv and radio audiences, and thus collect more money for the rights to broadcast their games then smaller market teams. Revenue is trending away from gate receipts being the larger source of revenue to tv and radio money being the more important sources of revenue. This is happening generally all over the sports landscape, but is even more apparent in markets with large population centers.
  9. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 27, 2013 -> 01:05 PM) Nice! Where did you get the walnut pieces from? The Lumbershack The slabs themselves were pretty reasonable...the shipping was kind of harsh, but it was like 100 pounds of wood...the legs I had fabricated by a guy in Ontario, CA that I found on ebay
  10. Made a few live edge walnut slab coffee tables over the weekend...pretty pleased with how they came out.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 27, 2013 -> 09:36 AM) I still think Louisville and Michigan are the two most dangerous teams remaining. There are obviously only (pretty) good teams left, but Louisville's all around intensity and Michigan's inside-outside game are very tough right now. I'd be more surprised if Michigan doesn't win their next 2. Kind of crazy to think that it is not out of the realm of possibility to still have an all B1G Final Four. Michigan State has the toughest road, but that's still a very good team capable of beating anyone in the country. At the same time, Michigan is as capable as anyone of going out and laying a big fat smelly turd on the court...
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 27, 2013 -> 08:40 AM) ADIDAS pays him more than the Bulls, though. $260 million > $94 million. But his contract with Adidas is still secondary, and dependent, on him playing basketball in the NBA, and he happens to be under contract with the Bulls. I agree, more and more, these athletes become a lifestyle brand, every one of them taking a cue from the trail blazed by MJ, but they should take another cue from MJ: winning basketball games is first and foremost.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 27, 2013 -> 08:05 AM) I like Michigan to match up well with Kansas. Not many guys have the ability to nuetralize Withy, the Wolverines have two. Plus UM might be more athletic than the Jayhawks. It should be a good one. Michigan just has to defend better than they have and they should win it. I hate Withey...and I need Michigan to win for my bracket pool...not just if they are consistent enough to play as well as they need to for the third consecutive game...
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 08:58 PM) Every day at work is awesome. I work for REI which is a dream job for me. Oh poop on you and your dream job

Jeesh, watching Revolution last night reminded me of just how terrible that show is.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 27, 2013 -> 06:59 AM) Florida is going to run FGCU out of the gym. I am seeing them get up double digits pretty early, and then beat them by 20+ in a laugher. FGCU has athletes, but nothing like the Gators have. The Gator kids are that good, and they are much more of a finished product. I dunno if they are going to win by that sort of margin...FGCU has some pretty outstanding athletes as well, but obviously they are missing the polish that the Gator players have. I'd expect it to be a 10 point game or so...It is a tremendous advantage to be able to spend 3 days breaking down their film as opposed to 1 day, however. I am really excited for the Michigan/Kansas game...you want to talk about athletes...
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 27, 2013 -> 07:47 AM) To be fair, this is a business. Each player has to look out for himself first and foremost. Derrick Rose is an incredibly powerful brand, and if he comes back and looks like s*** (I'm not going to bring up re-injury, doctors with degrees have stated he has no more risk than anyone else) then that hurts his brand. He wants to come back at that top level. It's what we love about him, so it's hard to turn on him even though it's frustrating as hell. And yes, my opinion on this changes daily, because I've got so much emotion invested in Derrick Rose. It's ridiculous. Yeah, but his "brand" is independent of his contract with the Bulls. He cannot make decisions solely for the sake of Derrick Rose, Inc. He is paid by the Bulls, and once he is medically cleared to play, he is expected to come back and play basketball for the Bulls. Obviously it is not quite that simple, but first and foremost, he works for the Bulls, not Adidas or Derrick Rose, Inc.
  18. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 01:06 PM) I administer FMLA (12 weeks of unpaid, job protected leave) for an assortment of clients. This means answering calls, processing voicemails, emails and leaves made on the internet. It's always a good day when an employee calls me and leaves satisfied instead of angry at me because the doctor's office didn't fill out paperwork. Basically if the doctor doesn't complete the paperwork and doesn't get it back to us within 15 days, the employee is screwed. Unfortunately, they don't take ownership for this. This is the best job I have had since college, even over the internship with the St. Louis Rams. Probably because I'm not selling anything. I also get to volunteer on a local political campaign on the weekends and my candidate is about to win one of three spots on our local village council. It's pretty cool, even if I am a moderate Democrat working for a moderate Republican. (How is that for bipartisanship?) Anyway, got a compliment from my boss for processing over 80 emails for part of Friday and all of Sunday. And the best part is that I'm off today getting ready to move to my new apartment in Buena Park. Glad to hear you are relatively happy, Ross.
  19. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 01:26 PM) 2 person apartment, each person pays $475. Roommate had to drop out due to medical issues, so he was released from his contract. It looks like it's only going to be 1 month though and it sounds like he is going to pay the difference. Oh, good to hear.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 25, 2013 -> 05:13 PM) I think Darryl more or less has come to terms with the fact that Merle is a bad guy. I think that was part of the reason Darryl went back to the prison. Regardless, Darryl is gonna be one to watch in the finale. His state of mind will not be right. Well Darryl was the last person to talk to Merle before he went off on his own, and Merle made it pretty clear to him he was going to do so, which is why Daryl figured out that he had taken Michonne so quickly. Not sure how Darryl can blame Rick for that.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 10:56 AM) It's what my lawyer-dad told me! And I really don't understand it either. Quin, What exactly happened? You signed a lease to live in how big an apartment, with whom, for what terms? And what happened to your roommate?
  22. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 10:31 AM) It's starting to come back today, but the cold (which I've had for a few weeks) is still lingering and it's more of just the gunk in my throat that makes it difficult sometimes. Back to chugging water! You should get your junk checked out.
  23. Colin was on Mike and Mike this morning replacing Golic, and Legler was contributing as well...they were talking about the two 3-peat Bulls teams matching up against these Heat. Legler was commenting on how we wouldn't have been able to play a center against Bosh, but that our length on defense would have terrorized the Heat. Imagine the matchups for the second 3-peat team...Jordan on Wade, Pippen on LeBron, Rodman on Bosh, Harper on Allen...what an incredible series that would be...
  24. When you've got fewer resources to expend, you've got to use them more wisely than those who have more resources than you. Eventually, and we may be reaching this point soon, the pendulum swings too far in the other direction, and the market overvalues certain skills, in this case, OBP. Then you need to sign the guys that have other skills but lack the one the market is overvaluing, and there is your market inefficiency. The troubled player is the same thing. Once the market realized it is overvaluing a skill, you'll see the pendulum start swinging back again, and you won't have as many guys taking the protracted at bats because they will have been replaced by some guys with a more all-around game. In any market you're going to have some smart folks seeing certain things ahead of the rest and taking advantage of that. Then the market reacts, overreacts, then slowly corrects itself again. We just need Hahn to be one of the smart folks.
