QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 31, 2012 -> 08:44 AM) Hudson is definitely not the answer at 3B for this year. He's been decent as the fill-in and leagues better than an injured Brent Morel, but if we continue to play well then we should look into legitimate upgrades near the deadline. If you look at this roster, we don't have a ton of holes at the moment. I don't see the logic in adding a starter, as he'd have to be better than Danks or Floyd and to get a pitcher of that caliber is going to cost a small fortune. The bullpen can always be improved, but usually relievers are overpriced at the deadline and we actually have some arms in AAA/AA that could help this year if necessary. That leaves the offense and bench. Right now, the only major hole in the lineup is 3B. I'm not ready to write off Morel yet, but this would be a spot where you could find a one-year upgrade and then give Morel another chance as the starter in 2013 if healthy. Doing so would allow us to move Hudson to the bench and send Escobar to AAA. IMO, this would be the cheapest and easiest way to improve the team. So if we can't find a legitimate upgrade at 3b, who do you go with? Hudson or Morel?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 31, 2012 -> 07:49 AM) I still think the way to reduce that concern down the stretch is to pencil in some extra time off, either using a callup or Stewart or Mr. Offday in his place, once a month for the next 3 months. I've been searching through our Minor League system and cannot find a "Mr. Offday" anywhere! Who is this mysterious man??

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2012 -> 08:21 AM) I don't think they shut Sale down unless he breaks down.... Velocity drops, dead arm, extra soreness, etc. They showed me last year that they want their guys to pitch if at all possible, in situations where building innings is necessary. Both he with us and Strasburg in Washington could make this quite a hot topic in August or September.

Let it get to 100%! No need to rush!

Make that 3 home runs for CarGo!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:47 PM) When I finally pay off my student loans? Trust me, I know that feeling

21-7! And Carlos Gonzalez with his second 2 home run game in 3 days or something...dude is nuts
-
And all the sudden it is 17-7

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:35 PM) There was a study that people who think they are lucky often had more luck. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/3304...l-to-learn.html A lot of it is just in your attitude...people like other people that are happy, confident, funny, easy-going, etc....people distance themselves from people that are constantly miserable, always making excuses, uptight, depressing to be around, etc.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:09 PM) Sometimes I wonder why I bothered to go to college. I was pulling in $700 to $800 per week in cash back in the day, working part time. My guess is you'll realize in about 20 years, Marko...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:21 PM) I would still complain about the Hudson deal more even if Gio wins a Cy Young. The Gio deal I at least get. It was filling a need the team clearly had. The Hudson deal drives me nuts about how useless/unnecessary it was compared to what the team actually needed. It needed a LH bat and to develop some young pitching. See Knight's post above mine...I wonder if he actually intended to keep Jackson or not.

QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:15 PM) I would enjoy networking if I didn't despise small talk. I can be very friendly but stumble upon questions that are "evasive" even though they are what gets the kind of information I am interested in. So it's more of a communication thing. Not to mention as an introvert (who has social skills) going to networking events and loud and boisterous places isn't as effective as networking in small groups where that is my strength. Ross, you've got an excuse for everything...I have thought for some time that the reason you're struggling is because you're always feeling sorry for yourself. People sense that and avoid people with that attitude. You need to stop worrying so much about where you're going to end up and just enjoy being a twentysome-year old dude. Just relax...be patient...pick a f***ing job and do it well and make friends and enjoy your life. The rest tends to fall into place.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:12 PM) It seems the loudest people here are still whining over the Hudson deal, and I've been saying Gio is going to be the better pitcher when it's all said and done. I think it's because Hudson was immediately successful with the DBacks after we traded him. At least the A's had to develop Gio a bit...he didn't start the next week and begin dominating.

QUOTE (flavum @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:07 PM) The Gio trades don't bother me now. He was super young in the Thome trade. The Swisher trade looks bad looking back, but it's just an offseason trade that didn't work out. The Hudson/Holmberg trade however was just bad. The team wasn't in a position to be making that gamble on Jackson being that guy to put them over the top. That 2010 team started 24-33, had a 26-5 run, and then crashed back to earth. And if you're curious what Holmberg is up to... http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?s...&pid=571787 Tell you what...if the Sox win the World Series this year, I'll never mention Hudson and Holmberg again. Still in high A ball...I'm not going to worry about him yet...but yeah, as much as I want to continue to defend that one, it was just too much of a reach.

QUOTE (Papa Tru @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:07 PM) Of course not, I don't care about the Dbacks organization. That doesn't change the point...
-
QUOTE (Papa Tru @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:04 PM) Im going to have to say Hudson, Holmberg, and Edwin Jackson for Zach Stewart pretty much is the worst cumulative deal KW has ever done. But Holmberg is just a prospect! Will you kill yourself and put it on youtube if he doesn't end up contributing anything to the DBacks?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2012 -> 09:03 PM) I'll still go Jackson The trade for him or the trade of him?
-
QUOTE (Cali @ May 30, 2012 -> 07:52 PM) Get it all out of your system now Seattle... Jesus...if you had told me the Rangers and Mariners were playing tonight, and by the 5th inning it would be 17-0, I would have bet anything you had let me on it being the Rangers with the 17 runs....As Tim McCarver would say, truly remarkable.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:57 PM) I have been saying this for years, and maybe people are starting to realize it.... The Nick Swisher trade is the worst deal Kenny has ever made. I don't think there are a whole lot of people who disagreed with that, especially since 2009 or so... That being said, I don't think it's fair to consider what happened here with Swisher as anything that could have been expected.

QUOTE (Papa Tru @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:51 PM) One could argue that, but then again Gio has been a pretty damn good pitcher now for a while and KW traded him twice. So you could say he doesnt know what assets he has that are valuable. EDIT: Value to your organization, not trade value obviously Yeah, the second time was really short-sighted, agreed.
-
QUOTE (Papa Tru @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:46 PM) I do give him credit, thats why I said he has done a good job getting some of those reclamation projects that no one wants. My main point was, we didnt just cut Gio Gonzalez and let him walk off for nothing. Humber and De Aza were. Comparing us sighing over not having Gio is not the same as a Marlins fan saying De Aza should be their leadoff guy right now. No it isn't...it means at least our GM tried to improve our ballclub with his valuable assets rather than not know which assets he had that were valuable...

Jeesh, the Red Sox cannot seriously continue to play AGon in rf...just dropped a flyball of MCab's to tie the score at 4...

QUOTE (Papa Tru @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) cmon man, did you really miss the point? Hes saying not to worry about Gio because the Royals arent worrying about Humber, or the Marlins arent worrying about De Aza. Neither of them showed anything with those teams and were let go. We take legit prospects (Young, Hudson, Gonzalez) and trade them away in stupid deals that end up being worthless. Im so sick of KW and his Stanford educated ego trip. Hes constantly made poor decisions in trading, for YEARS. Yeah he can get some projects and turn them into decent lighting, but god damn when are we going to come out of a trade on the EVEN end. Edwin Jackson trade, terrible. Carlos Quentin trade, terrible. Sergio Santos trade, terrible. Daniel Hudson trade, terrible since we just gave Edwin Jackson away for free anyway. you get the point, but then again I know you love KW. It seems better to me to at least know what players are valued by other organizations and trade them than letting them walk away for nothing. I realize he has made some bad trades in recent years and there is no way around that. But the Carlos Quentin trade and the Sergio Santos trades? How can you say those are terrible? CQ and SS have hardly even played for the teams he traded them to! And we haven't seen the prospects yet because they are still developing. Argue about KW blowing the Hudson deal and the EJ trade and I can't really defend those anymore...they were poor trades. But then you've got to give him credit for a lot of the moves that have worked out as well...

QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 30, 2012 -> 07:12 PM) Slav, you hit on something I want to ask people here: What is networking to you, and what do you find to be the best methods to do so? To me, it's just making friends and connections...not saying "What do you do"? May I add you on LinkedIn? My best connections have been people I wanted to become friends with because I thought they were interesting people, and then other stuff came later, as a result of our friendship. No one is going to put their ass on the line or step out on a limb for some doucher they met at some conference and merely exchanged contact information with. You do that for someone you bonded with and trust...someone you talk to often on a personal level...you know all about their wife or their family or the women they talk about chasing...you've talked to them about sports and cars and your bosses...that is where the best connections come from.

QUOTE (Papa Tru @ May 30, 2012 -> 08:20 PM) All you did was name players that those teams let walk away from them, our numbskull GM TRADES these players away for nothing in return. We really are a poorly run organization that lucked into a World Series in 05 which has kept this awful GM in office ever since. So you're arguing that it's better to let them walk away for nothing than to actually trade them? I'm scratching my head here...
