QUOTE (shakes @ May 17, 2012 -> 10:01 PM) It's a month and a half into his first full season. Relax. Or f*** it. Just trade him, he is too inconsistant in his first 215 pro at bats. Do you realize how this sounds? To whom? You?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 17, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) Beckham, Morel and finding a catcher for next season are MUCH bigger problems. And we have to hope that Alexei Ramirez isn't now completely on the downside of his career already... I've not stated that Viciedo is our biggest problem. Just expressing an opinion...heck, maybe we avoid repeating the same situation that happened with Beckham by trading Viciedo when he still has high value.
-
He needs to produce above a sub -.600 ops when he's not on a "hot streak."
-
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ May 17, 2012 -> 08:34 PM) Not sure what that only means but top 30's of all the hundreds of minor leaguers is pretty damn good. Are you seriously downplaying his hot streak?? His hot streak has been 5 games.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 17, 2012 -> 08:22 PM) His service time coming into this season was .123, so no he really hasn't. And what were you referring to with his minor league statistics? Yes, but we've seen this before from him...he's been extremely streaky, 210 abs or not. If he produced at a reasonable level when he's not on one of his hot streaks, it would be much more palatable. But he produces almost nothing for weeks and then goes nuts for 4 games and then goes back to producing nothing again. I'd just rather see a more consistent player. Yes, I know he is only 23. But I just don't hunk that is nothing that's going to change, even with experience.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 17, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) The kid has 210 career at-bats, yet you talk like he's been on the team for years. He has. And I was also referring to his minor league production.

Ok Kal...starting the first episode of Luther...I hope my expectations aren't too high... f***ing love Idris...

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ May 17, 2012 -> 07:59 PM) Well, of course all scenarios be should be considered, but the bolded above is the key - How in the HELL do we know what a 23 yo's peak value will be when he could easily be on his way to super-stardom, or irrelevance? Trading him on his first hot-streak will NOT bring the return we seek, and COULD severely limit the upside realized. Given that we have him under control for a good while, t'would be foolhearty, IMO. It wouldn't be his first hot streak..he does it every year...he did it in 2010 when we were rounding out that 26-5 streak or whatever it was... I don't mean to imply I don't think Dayan can be a good major league player, and I certainly don't mean to imply that I would be disappointed were he to remain with the White Sox. Heck, I hope I'm wrong, because I really think Kenny loves him and won't move him. That being the case, I just don't think his aggressive nature and his particular swing sets him up for consistent success in the Major Leagues. I think he's always going to be a guy that goes on runs where he shows incredible power, but he'll also be the guy that hovers around .300 with his OBP...and even if he does hit for tremendous power, when you make that many outs, it's tough to be putting up an OPS much over .800. NOW, there is not necessarily anything wrong with that, but it's just not as valuable an asset as one would think when it's a guy that isn't particularly fast. If he can put up an OPB above .350, however, then all bets are off. I just don't think he will.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 17, 2012 -> 07:27 PM) Why would you trade Dayan Viciedo? The best you could hope for is a Viciedo-in-waiting. Alllrighty then.
-
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ May 17, 2012 -> 06:23 PM) Yeah, we need to make room for all the stud hitters coming up through our system. There's nothing saying we can't move him for another hitter...there's nothing saying we can't move him for SP which allows us to move another P for a hitter. People need to stop thinking about our assets in such a limited fashion. The goal if you want it to be, can often times be about maximizing the value of your assets...if that means trading one of them while it is at peak value, then so be it.
-
QUOTE (Jake @ May 17, 2012 -> 05:39 PM) I'd say it didn't happen If Doc said it did, there is a good chance it did.

And I still say let him get hot and then move him.

HS golfer loses state title to errant scorecard

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 17, 2012 -> 10:11 AM) What I gather from this is that Inglis had the correct score for herself for the 18th on the card she was keeping, but her playing partner (who is keeping her official score) had an incorrect score for her for the 18th. When I played HS golf, my group sat down after every match and double-checked our scorecards to make 100% certain that we had the same scores for each other on every hole. This is a massive fail on her part for not doing this. It indeed is, but that is probably the result of the winner of the tournament not being in doubt. It's one thing to do this in a random match, as it is easy to cheat if the players don't do a good job of keeping track, but as other posters have pointed out, once you reach the level of the state tournament, it is nearly impossible to cheat (and actually have a chance to win) since you hit so few shots and people are employed to observe every group. Really, this is an outdated and outmoded stupid way of doing things that is still done for the sake of silly tradition. Once you reach this competitive level, the scoring methods should be automated in some way. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 17, 2012 -> 09:45 AM) Absolutely true, and how much it tails off actually has a pretty big impact on how financially productive every drilled well is. A couple years ago they really didn't know if "Fracking" in the Marcellus shale would be profitable at all, because the decrease could have simply made it unprofitable. I'm not privy to industry data, but the fact that money has continued to pour in and people have continued to drill tells me that the depletion curves aren't at the extremely bad end. They're probably also getting better at the technique the more they do it, which would allow for better long-term recovery rates. I've read that there could be a jump in price for next year when a lot of these sites reach their 2nd and 3rd years of production and the supply decreases...but I have no idea as to whether the development of new sites has slowed or not...my guess is you are right about the rush to beat the regulations, however...
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 17, 2012 -> 08:27 AM) A small increase in the price of gas is possible depending on weather, but a significant, long term increase is unlikely. That would require the current drilling boom to slow down, and they're racing to drill/frack as much territory as possible now because they can get it done now before the regulations catch up to the technique/pollution levels, and let the well sit there capped off until the price goes up slightly. Balta, I've read that the fracking sites tend to have a boom in production in the first year or so, but then it tails off dramatically....is that how you understand it?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 17, 2012 -> 09:17 AM) They've been having to deal with these tax subsidy cycles for a long time now, and it really does stifle development. The numbers just don't work without the tax credits...I interviewed with a major wind company last year and their director of development admitted that they don't know if they could be profitable without the credits... Hopefully the price of natural gas will increase in the next year or so. One interesting thing to come out of this cheap gas atmosphere is that it has probably sped up the demise of coal a bit.
-
Wind developers starting to dial back development due to the anticipated expiration of the production tax credits...they are already taking a pounding due to the abundant supply of natural gas, and now they may lose part of their subsidies. Will be interesting to see what happens.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 16, 2012 -> 12:22 PM) That's terrible. It's much more important to be extremely strict on procedural rules than to understand the spirit of the rules, I suppose. Hopefully she's handling it like Galarraga did when he got screwed, with grace and confidence knowing what she accomplished, regardless of what the record books say. Ugh, that's awful....imagine how stupid the girl who won by default feels now...in like 20 years when her kids ask her about that trophy, will she tell them she actually lost by 9 strokes but the other girl got disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard? -
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 16, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) Got a letter from their HR person today telling me that they were very impressed with me but business conditions have forced them to cancel the position. Third time in the last six months I've been told the exact same thing by three different companies. Sorry to hear that, HH...keep your head up and keep trying...something good will come along soon...

Ventura has a bit of a pattern in misusing Ohman now...I don't know that you can correlate the episode yesterday to a tired bullpen as much as it is just par for the course so far for Robin.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 15, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) Can anyone fill me in on the current state of knowledge surrounding next iPhone release? I've read it'll be in October...supposedly Qualcomm will be manufacturing the LTE chip and is struggling to produce according to Apple's schedule.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 15, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) "Better than AT&T?" Seriously don't know, but can't stand AT&T. It's on my list of companies I'll be dumping when i move next. I had Sprint before AT&T, and while their service is good, their customer service is brutal...they make AT&T seen like the American Express of cellular carriers.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 15, 2012 -> 07:26 PM) Nope, they got smoked 6-1 Wow, seems stupid to admit that then...were they implying that he was the victim of a practical joke or that this just happened accidentally?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 15, 2012 -> 03:09 PM) Horrible practice is the long way of saying AT&T. I can only imagine what the long way of saying Sprint is then...

QUOTE (Reddy @ May 15, 2012 -> 07:53 PM) per Rotoworld: Stephen Stasburg was bothered by stray Hot Stuff in his groin during Tuesday's loss to the Padres. Hot Stuff is an analgesic ointment like Icy-Hot that is often used as a muscle-loosener. But it can cause quite a bit of pain when applied to ... more sensitive skin. "I can’t really tell you what the problem was, but some Hot Stuff got misplaced," manager Davey Johnson said. "It was on his shoulder and evidently – I don’t know how it got to where it got, but it was uncomfortable, to say the least." Strasburg allowed four runs in four innings. LMAO! I am assuming they won the game or else they wouldn't be laughing about this?
