QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 04:00 PM) The idea that no one outside of MLB can evaluate whether a trade is good or bad is pretty ridiculous. So is the idea that 99% of us, who had no idea who Nestor Molina even was 130 minutes ago, can have an informed opinion at this point, is pretty ridiculous as well. This is going to be one of those deals where you just wait and see...

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) But the Sox have zero need for that player over the next couple of years, even if he is cheap. Maybe this isn't the best prospect KW could have targeted, but I can't fault him getting a prospect here. I'm confused...weren't you just on the other side of this thing about an hour ago?
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) KW already took a washed out shortstop and converted him to a valuable closer, and then traded him for a fairly well rated minor league pitcher. I like this move, the Sox spent very little and are adding more pieces to the minors I was thinking the same, but no one likes to give our system credit for anything, so I wasn't going to try and take on the burden this time...no one is going to do the "Hudson + Holmberg for EJax + Teahen = Stewart" thing here... That being said, regardless of where he came from or how he got here, Santos' success was real, and I would have liked to have gotten another guy back just because of the attrition rate, as Balta has mentioned.

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) @Ken_Rosenthal It's already been pointed out about 7 times that scouts are divided as to whether he is a reliever or a starter. The Sox obviously believe he is a starter.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 01:09 PM) We mentioned before that KW gets fixated on certain players, and in my opinion, doesn't really care about getting "throw-ins" included in deals that would help add to the organizational depth. I agree....he doesn't nibble or pester for every last piece he can get. He overpays to get the deal done all the time.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) Has a chance to compete, but a small one. 4/5 of that rotation could be awful. We still don't know what Humber will do as an encore (I think he's a back of the rotation piece), Sale will probably have some growing pains as he enters the rotation for the first time, Stewart is a wildcard who might profile better as a reliever, and Peavy could continue to Peavy. On top of that you need to bank on Rios and Dunn bouncing back, Dayan to not miss a beat, as well as Morel and Gordon to progress offensively. Sure the team could be competitive, but so many things have to work out. It's just as likely to be battling the Twins for the cellar. I'm of the opinion that losing both Danks and Floyd would severely hurt this team's chances. -
QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) Is Buerhle going to come back and lose one year that he could have gotten elsewhere and potentially less money in the first 3 years? I think he's saying that he won't be back if some team offers him the four years and $15 million, but if the offers are 3 years, $36-40 million, they will make him a similar offer.

QUOTE (MAX @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 01:06 AM) I'd consider slicing my penis up at the deli in a meat slicer and eating all the pieces before rooting for brett farve. So you're saying you'd be against the signing? -

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 12:01 AM) They need to give David Garrard a call, I think hes the only guy out there that gives you a chance to still make the playoffs..which were not out of just yet...Hes had success with worse WR than ours He's unavailable...he had back surgery or something. -

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Dec 5, 2011 -> 12:29 PM) Easy to say that, but: No idea what kind of shape he is in He literally has nobody to throw to Might get protection, might not Offense has to change this late in the season Yes, the biggest obstacle would be picking up the offense. No one to throw to? Come on....he would make Bennett his new best friend, and I can envision him throwing the ball as hard as he could down the field to Knox at least 3-4 times a game... -

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Dec 5, 2011 -> 12:15 PM) I just don't think you're finding a competent QB that's gonna be any better than Hanie at this point. And I honestly thought we'd still end up at 13-3 before these 2 terrible losses, but not anymore, this offense is a disaster without Cutler and a stubborn Martz I think Favre would be an instant improvement, but I admit, I have no idea if he is even physically capable of playing again, let alone interested. -

I recognize that the SEC is the best conference, at least at the top...but jeesh, I miss the SEC with the high flying Florida teams and a Tennessee team and an LSU team that can move the ball up and down the field. I don't think anyone really doesn't believe that the SEC defenses are the best in the country, but their offenses are lackluster at best, if not pathetic, and it's just not even entertaining to watch. -

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Dec 5, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) Doesn't matter anymore, they're toast without Forte + whatever scrub QB we get. Hope they lose out for the season so we can get a high draft pick JA can screw up for the 100th time. I disagree...I think a competent quarterback could get them to 10-6 and a playoff spot and then you just hope Cutler can get back for the Minnesota game... -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 08:03 PM) after oakland and kc, if the bears think they still have a shot then unfortunately McNabb probably needs to be signed. Hanie just doesnt have it, even the manager/placeholder mentality is not there I'd honestly rather them try to sign Favre. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) Cowboys just lost to the Cardinals. Falcons have the same record as the Bears and the Bears rolled them in week 1... But they still have a higher ceiling than any NFC team other than possibly the Saints and Cutler Bears, IMO. They are 1-7 now in their last 8 trips to AZ, I believe. They definitely are not as good as the Packers. But the question was who was capable of beating the Packers. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 4, 2011 -> 06:18 PM) What? Yes. That's pretty much it. I don't think any team in the NFC has a chance to beat the Packers outside of the Saints. I was just naming the few good teams in the conference. I'd put the Cowboys on that list, well before the Falcons. -

Hanie, you are one of the dumbest motherf***ers I have ever seen in my life. I literally hate you right now. Great game plan, Bears...way to think you could just run the ball with your s***ty OLine and let Hanie "manage" the game... -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 3, 2011 -> 08:48 AM) it has definitely hurt, but look at the Packers game. that is their season in a nutshell. They were hanging with the Packers for the first half, controlling the ball, moving the ball. Stupid penalties and turnovers jump up and bite them, and all the sudden Suh pulls his little stunt. They have no poise, they do not deal with adversity well at all. When things dont go their way they try and hurt people(Fairley driving Cutler into the ground, Stafford throwing DJ Moore by his helmet). They should have been able to get past losing Jahvid Best. A team with a prolific passing attack like they were showing during the 5-0 start should have been able to plug in another back and continued on, but they didnt. It's definitely been a combination of things. The penalties have caught up with them. They haven't been throwing touchdowns to Megatron. They've had an inconsistent running game. They had an unsustainably low turnover rate. Teams were getting up on them but not putting them away. They should have lost to Minnesota and Dallas and been 3-2, which would make them 5-6 right now, actually, and they could have very easily lost to Carolina, who was up 24-7 on them at one point... -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 2, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) it seems silly, but the Lions lost their tough guy edge when Schwartz got butthurt because of Harbaughs hard handshake/slap. They went from scary tough guy to schoolyard bully that will go away crying if you punch him in the nose. A tale of two seasons for them. You don't think it has more to do with Jahvid Best getting hurt? -
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 2, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) All that withstanding, it's a terrible idea to force journalists to report crimes. I would normally not make an issue of it, except for the fact that ESPN's biggest talking head so righteously explained to us all when the PSU scandal broke how reporting a crime such as child molestation to the police trumps all customary reporting procedures. To not do so is a moral outrage!

I just heard on the way home that Laurie Fine was sleeping with players since the 1980's...and the third victim apparently shared a bed with both Laurie and Bernie.
-
I just don't understand how you can buy that...if you listen to the tape, the ENTIRE conversation carries with it a context of Fine molesting this kid. It's not an issue of them talking about the latest sale at the market, and then all the sudden, his wife blurts out "So, is Bernie still trying to molest you?" The entire tape is centered on Fine's fascination with young boys, this boy in particular, and were there to be editing involved, they'd have had to basically fabricated the entire conversation.
