  1. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 01:47 AM) Most Tigers fans generally hate Brandon Inge. I don't think you could be more wrong... Brandon Inge is one of the better guys in professional sports, as far as I am concerned. He does extensive work with sick children and the children's hospitals in the Detroit area. Linky The fans recognize this and he is indeed a fan favorite because of it.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) Lookin' forward to seeing Hosmer/Moustakas. I'll bet you are...and take in how exciting it must be to be 34-50, in last place, and 10-20 since June 1st, when they began bringing the boy wonders up...
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 08:45 AM) There's still 3 1/2 years for Dunn to get it going, but giving him a nice 10 day break would be the best thing for the team right now. We face 2 lefties in this KC series, and given Dunn's struggles this year against them, he really shouldn't be playing. The boo birds are going to be crazy this week if he continues to struggle. I'm not at all opposed to that....just make up a back strain for him and bring Viciedo up....but you can't just bench him indefinitely like people are calling for...you don't sign a guy to this kind of contract and then just write him off as a bust 1/8th of the way into it.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 06:39 AM) What is a reasonable level of expectation for a player who signs a $14/year contract? Sure, if you go back one year ago and track his numbers for the past six months, it's scary bad. He's hitting .165 at this point. Not even Esteban Beltre, Joe Borchard or Mike Caruso could manage that feat. It's one thing to expect the White Sox to make it to the World Series every year or for Dunn to hit 55 homers, it's quite another to expect something resembling his "average" career numbers. It's pretty obvious that the guy is horrible right now. But the point is that we have $50 million still invested in the guy...you have to handle him in a way that will give you the best chance to recoup on your investment, as much as I hate to use a similar phrase as Chris Rongey.
  5. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 04:52 AM) Depending on where things stand at the trade deadline, and the Sox are right in it, I'd like to see him, or someone dealt for Scott Rolen. Their salaries match up and even though Morel has been ok, I'd much rather have Rolen and his glove, bat, and attitude in a pennant race. It's not a knock on Morel but Rolen brings alot more to the table. I think he'd be a perfect fit for the Sox. Oh my I would be very disappointed in such a deal. Rolen has some tremendously shady shoulders that have put him off and on the DL the last several years, and on the brink more often than not. I realize Rolen brings a bit more pop right now, but coming down the stretch, when he's hurting even more then after having played more games, I am not sure that will still be the case. So I just can't see giving up a valuable asset for something that is basically redundant, especially with our SP experiencing injuries as of late. Even if Peavy has not been injured in 3 weeks, can you really pronounce him as being "healthy" at that point, given that he was injured at the beginning of the year, injured again in June, and has been injured each of the last two years? And as Caufield pointed out, who knows how Danks will be recovering from his oblique injury, especially considering that is an injury that tends to linger? And what if Humber wears down? What are you really going to gain by trading Edwin that is going to help you going forward? The risk/reward doesn't seem anywhere close to worth it to me...
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 09:21 PM) As far as prime standpoint Carlos Lee (with more average/little more power) is a great comparison for him. Vlad Guerrero (with less walks/speed) is a good one also. The only player/prospect we got that even sniffs Miguel Cabrera's jock strap in this system is Trayce Thompson and thats if everything in the book goes right for him. Pujols is in a league of his own. Well, to be fair, I'm not sure Albert Pujols sniffed Albert Pujols' jockstrap either...
  7. QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) Well, considering that he is basically hitting the same as De Aza and De Aza plays better defense and can steal bases, right now De Aza would help the Sox more. Viciedo is likely to be a pretty good DH. He'll never make an all-star team. That's my prediction. A good hitter, not a great one. Maybe, he will last in the outfield for a while before he gets moved to DH. Umm, except those 60 extra points of slugging...
  8. QUOTE (lord chas @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 03:52 PM) maybe an adrian beltre That's a really good comp I feel...too bad he can't field like AB... Or maybe a Nellie Cruz?
  9. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) I think his wrist is bothering him and they just aren't saying anything. His swing looked a little funky the other day. Hmm, that makes this push to get him on the All-Star team a little conflicting for me then...
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 05:16 PM) Ah yes. I think I referred to it as "Heat: Boston" after I saw it. I did enjoy it though. The Town was good, and Mark Buehrle, I mean Jeremy Renner was very good as he has come to be, but Affleck and Hamm were not close to Deniro and Pacino....more like "Heat Lite."
  11. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 11:59 AM) Memo to self. Never let your best friend's confrontational girlfriend in your new car, or you will be paying over 200$ in damages to it. What did she do?
  12. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 09:32 PM) Now, I'd say real mexican food is just about right, here. Gotta agree with that...there is some amazing Mexican food in Texas, gourmet and otherwise.
  13. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) I can see Jackson being dealt by the deadline for something for next year regardless of where we are in the standings. Keep an eye on Addison Reed because I think he's the guy they're looking at as the righty help for the bullpen. As far as Jackson, what do you think his value would be? I'm looking at the top 4 teams in the NL Central as possibilities. Hope that race stays tight. Hard to deal Jackson considering how prone to injury Jake has been.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 09:16 AM) I have no problem having someone call out KW. I do it as well, but you have to be fair. Cowley is Oney Guillen's ghost writer. Show me one thing where he doesn't praise Ozzie or said Ozzie made a mistake the last 3 or 4 years? He's afraid of Oney. If Ozzie was the mad genius he's made out to be by Cowley and knows what buttons to push and when to push them all the time, how come the team gets into the binds they are in almost every season? According to Cowley/Oney, when things go right, its because Ozzie is a genius. When things go wrong, its because of KW. Mark Gonzales is by far a better writer, and easily the best baseball beat writer in Chicago. Adam Dunn is batting 3rd today. If he does well, Ozzie was a genius for batting him 3rd. He knew he would snap out of it. If he goes 0-4 with 4 ks, KW was the moron who gave him that contract and Ozzie is stuck with him. I can see where some would like Cowley's White Sox stuff. Its for the same reason they like reading the National Equirer and Star Magazine for all their movie star news. I just don't understand why neither Chicago paper can seem to hire an actual quality beat writer. Someone who actually understands the game of baseball, the business of baseball, and the what happens in the league and especially with this team. Do baseball writers not get paid well? It seems as though covering the White Sox is these guy's second or third job or a hobby instead of what they do to make a living. Myself, and several others that post here regularly, seem to understand the game of baseball and the industry as a whole, as well as this ballclub, much more so than any White Sox beat writer I can think of within the last 15 years, and yet, we all actually have full-time jobs. Very, very rarely do I ever read something from one of our beat writers that I did not know already, because it was obvious, or I just ignore it entirely, because it is so obviously ridiculous that one does not even need to finish the article to determine it is nonsense.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 07:17 AM) I couldnt find the embed code on this video, but everyone should watch this Jon Gruden says weird s*** to Terrelle Pryor Wow, that is odd. I must say, Gruden seems like a fun guy though...I saw something several years ago where he was discussing a lot of what went on in the 2003 playoffs and Super Bowl when his Bucs won it, and it was a lot of the same goofy s***. Dude just loves football and being around football teams.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 09:48 AM) The thing that we need to keep an eye on is that his career high in IP is about 148. He is sitting on about 103 as of today. Those numbers include his time in the minors. Yeah, and considering he seems to hit at times around 90-100 pitches (he did not yesterday), it might be time to start pulling him after 6 innings. Problem is, so many of his starts he has not given up more than a run or so after 6 innings...
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 08:08 AM) Thanks. Duh.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 06:39 AM) And what 1, 2 by verlander? No one is saying anything negative about Verlander. He's been the best pitcher in baseball this year. Problem is, he only pitches once every five days and they have to win a few games of those other four. I'm certainly not saying they can't, only that Verlander cannot help them do it.
  19. QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 01:44 AM) The rotation has nothing to do with Super Two. The arms we have just aren't ready. Duffy is learning on the fly, and we lost John Lamb to Tommy John Surgery. Mike Montgomery is having his up's and down's in Triple A. Jake Odorizzi was dominating high-A ball and was just promoted to Double-A. Bruce Chen went 12-7 with a 4.17 ERA for us last year. He's been hurt this year, but he's still pitched well. Paulino has also pitched well for us. Davies is just plain terrible and Francis is a filler... And from 2004 - 2008 the Royals used those top 5 overall picks on Butler, Gordon, Moustakas, and Hosmer, with Hochevar thrown in there, who's pretty much been a bust.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) Not the way JV is pitching. The won't win the central without max, but verlander won't let them plummet. He's only one guy...ask King Felix.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 09:35 PM) he got up and there was much laughing. Good to hear; he's had to battle enough through injuries. Giants beating up on the Tigers 10-0.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) I'm not so sure. They have to have another option at DH besides Lillibridge to bat against LHP. If Dunn doesn't get a hit against the Royals, there's just no way I would keep him in the line-up when we play the Twins. So then you think we'll DFA Bruney? I don't think Ozzie is willing to give up a BP arm, especially a RH with how much he has had to use Crain thus far. I am sure that is on his mind.
  23. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 1, 2011 -> 05:49 PM) Sabathia has a 3.9 WAR Edwin has about a 2.5 WAR Garcia has a 1.1 WAR Burnett has a 0.9 WAR Nova has a 0.7 WAR Gordon has a -0.2 WAR Yankees 2-5 starters (2.5 WAR) So, yeah, Edwin is basically as good as all of their starting pitchers COMBINED this year (minus Sabathia, of course). Bart has a 1.5 WAR... And this stuff with Edwin and his advanced statistics is crazy...so is he incredibly unlucky then or are some of these advanced metrics still a bit questionable?
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 2, 2011 -> 08:57 PM) KW and Ozzie clear the air about the "Pierre/Viciedo" debate and alleged sniping back and forth... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,1950575.story Well, it sure sounds like Viciedo is the odd man out for the rest of the year.
