QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 11:54 PM) I love James so I'd like to read that. But what starting pitchers are going to get in the Hall of Fame without a TON of victories. It's still the reason guys get in the Hall who pitch. You think they are gonna put guys in with 150 wins just cause they have good peripherals? That is certainly something that is going to have to be re-evaluated.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 12:25 AM) I understand this but if anyone thinks Marlon Byrd is worth more wins than Konerko they are out of their mind. Alexei gets the boost from playing a damn good SS. It's Wins Against Replacement, not just wins. Edit: Wins Above Replacement, sorry.

I know Bosh hasn't played well in this series yet, but it seems like he deserves a little better than that after the series he had against the Bulls...

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) It's funny how pitchers' win totals are meaningless when for most of baseball history they have been THE STAT to judge the Hall of Fame worthiness of a starter. Meaningless? I beg to differ. I'd like Bill James' take on this. I think James is one of the first to really point out the silliness of the win totals, to be honest.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 07:57 PM) Yes. Strained oblique. And the Indians play 9 consecutive road Interleague games towards the end of June, so Hafner won't be seeing a whole lot of action this month even if he is able to come back in a few weeks...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 08:33 PM) Well Memphis did get hurt, and Caliparo firmly established his reputation. Yeah, that Caliparo reminds me a lot of Tarkonian... -
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 06:53 PM) Which will probably lead to the 1st pick in next year's draft and they'll grab the next Joe Mauer! I can't say I haven't thought of this...at least when Minny is bad, they are so bad that they get a great draft pick.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) We're two months into the season, and Lillibridge has more homers than Dunn. As a bench player.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 08:02 PM) I'm not the only one seeing a little Ben Zobrist in the Stealth Elf. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/06/...ew-ben-zobrist/ Either that or YOU ARE Matthew Pouliot.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 11:09 PM) He was my first favorite basketball player (I was born during the Dynasty years, so while I "liked MJ" I don't have much memory of his play as a Bull) and when hot, he could drop 40 on anyone. Plus, I feel Thibs could give him the Ray Allen makeover, because while Allen is taller, BG is ripped. I have to agree, this would be a huge upgrade for the Bulls. I have no idea if Detroit is that desperate, but that would really improve us.

Happy Birthday, young man! Enjoy your day!

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 09:11 AM) I have a severe case of patellar tendonitis in my left knee and my doc said I have to not workout for at least a week or maybe two. Its literally driving me crazy and today is only day 4. Yeah, I have to either really stick with it or not do it at all...I have hurt my neck/shoulder a few times pushing myself a bit too much, and then I took a break for a few months because I had to spend a lot of time raising my dog. It's a total mindf*** watching your muscles deteoriorate after you busted your ass to get into good shape. Did shoulders and arms today and it was total humiliation...but I think I'll be back to respectability in a few weeks... Hope your knee recovers, Rock.

QUOTE (MAX @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 09:32 PM) For the smokers out there in soxtalk land (I'm not one of them). During the broadcast today- Steve Stone: Well occasionally you have to say thank goodness for four twenty. And he then followed that up with "he hit it hard, too..." I got a chuckle out of that as well...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 07:44 PM) Only fair way to evaluate those deals in aggregate is wins and losses. Ok, so let's just throw out all the discussion of transactions and see where we end up at the end of the year. I have a feeling it's going to be better than it is now...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 07:24 PM) Problem so far shack is that a team shouldn't find one of the best steals of the offseason but still be well below .500. Or at least they shouldnt demand credit for the one thing they did right if everything else went wrong. That's like destroying the world economy by wrecking your entire bank but then taking home a billion dollar bonus because you also managed to convince the government to bail you out, and that'd just be nuts. I'm not justifying the performance of the team thus far. But we're starting to see what we have here and I think in the end we're going to like it. Every GM makes some bad decisions. I have no problem with everyone discussing those bad decisions. All I ask is that you put those in context of the good decisions. It seems like we want to ignore every good deal Kenny makes and just rail on him for the ones that haven't worked out. Take Lillibridge, for instance. Say he turns into the player he is starting to look like, for instance, as chw42 compares him to, Ben Zobrist. How does that Javy Vazquez deal look then?

You guys never cease to amaze me...you really and truly do not. You want to pick and pick and pick at anything you possibly can...but you're not going to give the guy credit for finding Humber off the scrap heap and turning him into the best pitcher in our rotation through the first third of the season!

QUOTE (qwerty @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 02:29 AM) Year in, year out? Well, that would be a bit aggressive I suppose. Especially in our ballpark. Perhaps a 3.75 - 4.00 or so would be a safer guess. I do think he has the stuff to do it. And I do think if he were to pitch to that it's fair to say he could be a #2. Put it this way...I think he's closer to a #2 than a #4. Let's assume for a moment that he can fulfill the potential he had when he was drafted. #4 starters are not normally drafted #3 overall in the draft. #1-#2 pitchers normally are. Call me a believer.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 31, 2011 -> 10:23 PM) What the? White prefers chocolate? Not even I go anywhere near black girls. Haha, I was giggling too... I don't get the asian fascination.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 31, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) On our staff? Then you obviously don't think much of it. Unless you're saying going into next year if we trade Danks and Jackson/Buehrle walk. I think he can pitch to a 3.5 ERA or so.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 31, 2011 -> 11:13 PM) lol. Based on 10 starts you think he can be a legit #2? Ala Matt Cain, Cole Hamels or Max Scherzer? Please let me get some of what you're drinking/smoking. Why do you always have to go COMPLETELY to the most extreme perspective you possible can? I mean on our staff, I think he can be our #2. I did not say the #2 for the Phillies, or the Giants, or the Tigers. And yes, based on 10 starts. Based on being a former #3 overall draft pick. Based on him shutting down the Yankees and Red Sox fairly well. If I can't base it on the starts he has had, his draft position, his stuff, his scouting report, what the hell are you basing your opinion on?

Just noticed Alexei is currently rated by fangraphs as the second best ss in MLB, behind Jose Reyes.

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 31, 2011 -> 09:16 PM) Are we watching the same guy? Plus curve, below average to average change, and below average fastball. However, his command has been solid, he changes speeds, and works fast. He's like a less polished, right handed Buehrle, except he has a plus pitch (but also a screw in his elbow). He could be a solid 3 or 4 guy. But I tend to think this is more of a hot streak/first time around the league than anything else. Would I trade him if someone in need like the Yankees offered something good? Yes. But I would have no problem letting him pitch while he's hot and hold onto him in the future as well to see what he is all about. Also, either I have bad eyes, or it looks to me that Humber's frame has changed quite a bit since Rice/TJS. He looks relatively skinny with not much in the legs. Not exactly a work horse frame (not to say he can't be a work horse). See, I see him more as Gavin Floyd-lite but with a better mental makeup. No deer in the headlights bs.
