  1. I don't know if this is the case here, but maybe this kid himself was also molested as a child? Certainly not trying to defend him, not trying to take a position on any particular team taking him, but just throwing out the fact that we really don't know much before we rush to all this judgment.
  2. So a lot of s*** flying right now, between the Twins indecision, the rumors of both the Rays and Braves going underslot at 4 and 5. What is the best of what we think we know for sure? - Reds are on Hunter Greene at 2. - Twins will take one of McKay, Wright, or Lewis - Padres go with Gore...is this irregardless of what the Twins do? - Rays may go with Bubba Thompson, but if Lewis is still here, could take him despite signability concerns - Braves seem to be on Hiura here, unless of course Wright slips due to the Twins going with McKay or Lewis and the Rays going underslot with Thompson - A's have been scouting the prospects out of NC quite a bit, whether Tarheels or prep Austin Beck; A's will likely go with Wright if he somehow falls to them, or else will likely choose one of the Carolina guys or even potentially Hiura - Dbacks are another team hoping both the Rays and Braves go underslot, so they can take one of McKay/Wright/Lewis (whomever falls) - Phillies likely looking at one of the Virginia bats, could be either Smith or Haseley, or else if they go SP might take Faedo - Brewers likely to go with a HS bat if available here, potentially Adell or Beck if available, although with their rebuild potentially moving ahead of schedule, perhaps they grab a college player higher on their board if one falls to them - Anaheim...this is where stuff starts getting really fuzzy...Adell if he is there? Faedo? Smith? Buauskas?
  3. Just to avoid clogging this thread up with the debate on the child molesting issue, can we please post those thoughts in the thread in Future Sox ? Not that I don't think it is worth discussing, but it's a sensitive, emotional debate that is starting to spill over into multiple threads.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 11:05 AM) So if you ran a company, you would have no problem hiring someone the world knew asa molestor? There are many problems here. First, anyone who does this most likely still has a screw or two loose. It would most likely make his co-workers very uncomfortable playing with him, plus some have young kids, and would be scared to death of him. Third, the PR hit your team takes is huge. He has a right to work, but playing professional baseball is a privilege. He doesn't qualify. He would be around kids, performing for kids. Would you want your kid getting his autograph? Every team has a right, and IMO a responsibility not to hire him. There are millions of people with the right to make a living that can't make one. I wouldn't have any wife beaters my team, so you could imagine what I think about those that abuse 4-6 year olds. Hah. Dick, how on earth do you reach your initial conclusion here? As I said earlier, I am not trying to support child molestors in any capacity, other than to support the fact that we have a penal system that has adjudicated his offense, for which he has paid, and is still paying for. I am not making an argument that the White Sox should draft him, or that any team should draft him. The argument I am making is that SHOULD a team decide they would like to draft him, that they be allowed to draft him and that he be allowed to attempt to make a living playing baseball.
  5. Ack, I just can't get behind choosing a 1b here without more power than these guys. I get the lack of good hit tools in our org, but IMHO, you want to use your 1st round choice to select the player with the chance to be really special, particularly if you are rebuilding and envision having a lot of money to spend on payroll. Spend the money for the high OBP 1b in free agency, please.
  6. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 07:44 PM) $2000 a year?!? JESSSSUUSSS. I wonder how many miles and sized tires that is. Also, I think I heard that a bunch of tire companies are making tires for Tesla's now that the M3 will dump a half a million cars on to the market in the next 12+ months. Wait, a half a million? You sure that's accurate?
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 04:26 PM) It's wearing on the so horribly, they have a 10 game lead. They shouldn't even be focusing on their lead. Their division is complete s***. The other problem is if they wait too long...say midway into July, because there was no "rush," then teams can start calling their bluffs because they know Rizzo isn't going to jeopardize a playoff roster that can go nowhere because a complete disaster of a bullpen. They don't just need a closer...they need 2, 3, even 4 new pieces. But hey, no rush...they have a 10 game lead in the NL East.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 03:43 PM) They have a 10 game lead with a lousy bullpen all year. Clearly, it doesn't need to be fixed for them to make the playoffs, it probably does have to be fixed for them to win in the playoffs. I don't see where the pressure starts now. Around the deadline, probably. But now, unless you get a great deal, there is no reason to move. When you are consistently losing games because of one facet of your team, it wears on you. You don't want to position players to start pointing fingers or pressing because they are tired of leads evaporating late. You also don't want the starting pitchers throwing more innings because the manager doesn't trust the bullpen. There actually are a lot of reasons to move.
  9. QUOTE (Tony @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) ANOTHER bullpen meltdown by the Nats. Assuming they lose this game, I really think the pressure begins to mount on Rizzo to start making acquisitions.
  10. QUOTE (Tony @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) 100%, but unfortunately that is out of the White Sox control. Yeah, I'm not real sure what the point is here. Obviously, I cannot make anyone trade with me.
  11. QUOTE (Tony @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) I'm not arguing the value of Robertson to the Nats or Astros come October. The argument was about the value of Robertson to them on June 11. White Sox fans want him traded right now. While I understand that, my points still stand on why that might not be as easy as it seems right now. The difference with the Nats being you do not want that team to start pointing fingers at eachother because of all the blown leads. Large divisional lead or not, teams do not like blowing games out of their ass all the time. That may cause Rizzo to move early, despite the large divisional lead.
  12. See, if you guys want to make the argument that it isn't good to add the guy to your ballclub because he's a child molester, fine. But that is quite different than arguing that he should not "have the privilege" of playing professional baseball.
  13. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) Nationals with another blown save and bullpen loss in extra innings. Hopefully they come calling for robertson And a few other guys, even.
  14. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 02:23 PM) Rockies look fantastic. They may finally be ready to make some noise. Blackmon has been the Avi of the NL. Blackmon was a great player before this year. This year he's going nuts.
  15. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 09:23 AM) No, but there's no rule that says his second chance has to be in baseball on a MLB team with lots of public scrutiny and a fan base full of children. This is absolutely true.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 09:22 AM) It didn't look like straight on the bone to me, it looked like it hit the meat right where the shin and muscle meet. Which sounds incredibly painful I'm not disputing that it looked like it hurt. Was just confused in regards to the way he exited the field and the rosy outlook reported this morning.
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 08:49 AM) Bone bruise in the knee is pretty painful. I got hit with a line drive in the knee when I was 16 and I had to be helped off the field as well. Yeah, I get that...but it is being reported that he is feeling fine, that there is minimal swelling, and he isn't expected to miss multiple games. Seems odd if it is truly a bad bone bruise.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 08:32 AM) Come on shack, I agree with you on most social issues, but this is crazy. He has a right to earn a living, but the rest of us have a right to not want to work with such a person. Unfortunately when you're convicted of child molestation, there are going to be some repercussions. One of those is struggling to find work. There have been plenty of athletes that have physically abused women, been convicted of vehicular manslaughter, many, many drug convictions, etc. Professional sports are not exactly the example that you want to hold up for being concerned about moral/social issues in regards to employment opportunities. Now that doesn't mean that I'm unaware that there is an economic analysis happening here.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 08:24 AM) Normally I would agree, but if he molested a family member and it was reported, I'm going to assume it was pretty f***ing bad. Regardless, people are not going to be around this guy. He's simply not worth the distraction whether he's "reformed" or not. I'm really not trying to take up the flag for the molesters out there, but you cannot simply refuse them the right to make a living (unless of course, they want to do something that requires them to be in the presence of children or something).
  20. Sounds like Abreu just has a bruise. Wtf man, I thought his leg was broken the way they had to get him off the field.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 08:19 AM) Would you want to work with someone who molested a six year old? I probably do, and don't know it. I also probably work with a lot of people who've done other terrible things. Unfortunately, most of us aren't independently wealthy and have to work for a living.
