Sox vs Atlanta 6-22 game thread 7:10 first pitch

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:43 PM) This is a game thread. On my best day, i'm not known for my patience. That's because it's become acceptable in here for all of you to think that way. It's weak. We are like an exact replica of this Braves team. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:40 PM) Where the hell did that come from? Of course i'm invested in this team i'm posting on a message board dedicated to them. I refuse to blindly assume that this team is going to beat good teams just because we beat bad teams. It doesn't work like that. It came from the bs comment you made after they scored. Go ahead and give up in the second inning why don't you. So weak. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:40 PM) Let us not bash our own folks. We have a good team starting to pull out of their doldrums, but we will have bad spots from time to time I'm not bashing him. I'm encouraging him to buy in. I know he is dying to. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:36 PM) Tommy Hanson's stuff translates to all lineups, I don't really care what kind of teams he's shutting down. There's a reason why he blanked the Rays in his last outing. 4 career outings vs AL lineups and he's allowed 0 in 3 of them and 2 in the other. We could get to him today, anything could happen but we're not going up against a chump. I feel a lot right now like I did against Strasburg on Friday. I'll bet you $25 we score 3 runs against him. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:35 PM) A lot of us refused to buy into the hot streak because we did it against the Cubs, Pirates and Nats. We were never operating under the highest of expectations for this team anyway. You're so full of s***. Support your team and stop being afraid to invest a bit in them. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:34 PM) They're not? 7 games better...they're one of the most talented teams in baseball and they're on fire. I'd rather play anyone else beside them right now. I also never said we'll get swept...I think we can win 2 games this series. Ok, so what you're telling me is that our wins against the NL are meaningless, but the Braves success in that league makes them one of the best teams. I got it now. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:33 PM) Disturbing stat of the day: Tommy Hanson has allowed 3+ runs in only 3 of his 14 starts this season and no more than 2 in any of his last 5 outings. Yeah, for the most part againt NL lineups, who our entire rotation just dominated twice. -

These game threads are something else. The slightest hint of adversity and you guys are already selling your team down the river. Such a bunch of mamby pambies. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:25 PM) I never said the Sox record wasn't legit. Honestly, when I said the big boy comment before, all I meant is that we're playing a team that's red hot and playing with a ton of confidence. We'll have to play better than we have been, even though the record has been great. Last I checked, we're red hot and playing with some confidence... -

Hey Fathom, you know the Braves get to play against the s***ty NL all year long. Why is their record valid when they play them all year while ours is somehow a farse because we play them 20 games? -

I can't believe Hawk just said "Glaus has been good against our lefthanders, especially Jim Parque." As if Parque is still on the roster or something. -
QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) Last I heard, he's not anywhere near ready to hit ML pitching. Well I'm curious as to who you heard that from. I wish Kenny would talk to that person, if that is indeed accurate.

This win streak...how much credit goes to Ozzie?
iamshack replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 04:23 PM) The defense actually hasn't been miserable. I also would say that 2005 has completely blinded some people relating to Ozzie. But you know what...he can keep letting Buehrle pitch to Vernon Wells with the bases loaded in the 8th inning of a one run game as long as my 2005 CWS WS DVD keeps working! I agree, that move was horrendous. And I was watching the Toronto broadcast and their broadcasters were absolutely flabbergasted. If Ozzie has a weakness, it is sticking with his SP too long. But if Ozzie has a strength, it is sticking with his SP long enough. You guys can question Ozzie all you want - that's your right - but it's damned hypocritical to give him all the blame when we suck and none of the credit when we win. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) Given Peavy's post game reaction he didn't seem too thrilled with the lineup Ozzie constructed on Saturday. I hope the team doesn't start losing confidence in Ozzie....if they haven't already. But Ozzie doesn't answer to Jake Peavy. Jake insisted on pitching, and so Ozzie said here, win with this lineup like you should. Either that, or he had very little confidence in him and figured he would use the chance to rest two of his sluggers. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) Most managers with half a brain rest one player on Saturday and the other on Sunday. Those are our only legitimate hitters on our team right now. Plus the entire team had a day off on Monday. But it's not so simple. If you believe you can win a game with both of them on the bench one day, then you kill two birds with one stone. Just because other managers do something one way doesn't mean a damned thing. I wasn't happy about the lineup when I saw it, but I also said at the time that Ozzie probably thinks we either had a chance to win without them both or that we had no chance at all because of Peavy's physical condition, so he figured he would rest them both Saturday. Given the way this lineup has been hitting we may be too weak to even sit one of them and risk losing both games. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 02:35 PM) I don't disagree but Ozzie should make it easier for the team to win and not harder. That might be one of the worst lineups I've ever seen in the last 20 years. I'm amazed they scored 1 run. While I agree with you, getting a day off for Paulie and Rios with Peavy on the mound against the Nationals is one of the reasons why Peavy was brought here. He is supposed to be an ace. He is paid to be an ace. This is one of the luxuries an ace allows you. I'm happy he stepped up to the plate and hopefully the rest afforded the two sluggers will pay dividends this week. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 02:30 PM) Peavy single-handedly won that game. Ozzie just made it harder for him to do so. And maybe Jake needed to do that for a damned change. That's why he makes like $500k every two weeks. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) Well yeah, cause the horrible offense got bailed out by Peavy. You guys can second guess all you want. I understand. But usually the second guessing comes when the decision does not work out. -
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) It would depend on what overpaying was. Overpaying for a journeyman veteran stopgap SS who realistically is only a couple years from retirement may not be all too big of an overpayment. Basically, if I were Kenny, there would be players on the farm whom I would never under any circumstances trade for Alex Gonzalez - no matter what time of year - and then there would be other players who were drafted specifically to be the types of guys you give up for an Alex Gonzalez-type of player. I'd call the Jays and make an offer from the latter pool, and if they wanted a little bit better player from that group because it's not July yet, I'd give them one. Because I wouldn't care enough not to. IMO Kenny is too smart anyway to pull a Bavasi and dump off a Choo or Asdrubal Cabrera for platoon players. And if the Jays wanted a deal like that, then move on. But I'd look for some help because I never want to see Mark Teahen play 3B again unless he's doing it for the opponent. Scratch that, I never want to see him put on a uniform again unless it's for the opponent. So Omar will need some help, and Viciedo probably isn't ready to play MLB defense (although his bat may very well come in handy if he's used correctly). Teahen is going to play. We're going to have to live with that. I don't mind trading some schmuck for Gonzalez, but I don't see why the Jays are going to trade him for some schmuck.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 01:59 PM) So from what I can tell out of our next 4 series (ATL, CHC, KCR, TEX) we'll face a grand total of 2 lefties: Ted Lilly (3.42 ERA, 1.086 WHIP) and CJ Wilson (3.41 ERA, 1.238 WHIP). After that we have LAA and KCR before the break, that's a bit far in the future to project probable starters but the 2 teams have 3 lefty starters combined: Saunders, Kazmir and Chen. That's 2 lefties in the next 12 games and a possibility of 5 in the next 19. I don't mind him facing righties but I have no problem sitting him against the best righties in the game right now. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 12:43 PM) Is anyone really suprised that Ozzie is doing this to Viciedo? We all know that he shouldn't have been brought up if he wasn't going to get regular playing time, but KW had to know what he was getting into when he made the move. He should have brought him up this weekend, rather than last. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) Does Tim Hudson count as a tough righty (2.34 ERA this season, one of the best pitchers of his generation)? Derek Lowe (9-5 this season)? Do we have to wait until Friday and Ted Lilly until we see Viciedo again? Well this one is on Kenny. Bad time to bring him up. I don't blame Ozzie for shielding the kid a bit.
