QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 03:14 PM) Dayton Moore was a protege of John Schuerholtz. I doubt the Royals fans would mind giving him to the Sox. Now, now...just stick with "The Plan."

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 01:27 AM) I am pretty sure that Sandburg will get the Cubs job and then Dave Martinez will swoop in and steal it from him Oh this is a gem, my friend. Very well played.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 12:18 PM) It's time to talk, but it's also entirely plausible that having "That talk" can backfire. Backfired with me. What happened, Balta? -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 11:16 PM) You know. I got to watch Kane from a unique point of view at the Cubs/Sox game. I was on that rooftop with him right behind him. I watched a 21/22 year old kid, having a good time, not out of control, trying to meet girls. He was not out of control, he was not obnoxious, he was not crazed. He spent a lot of the game, scoping out girls, living in the moment taking a breather from a pretty interesting rollercoaster ride over the last 48 hours. I can share some fun things. The rooftop next door tried a few times to lure him over there. They pulled just about every hot chick they could, and when that didnt work. The owner just basically brought two girls up to the edge and told him he wanted him to party over there. Kane said, I am fine where I am at. Thanks though. Kaner eventually picked out some pretty good looking dark haired girl with a blue shirt from the rooftop and had the bodyguard go and get him the intro. Watching him try to pick up this girl was pretty funny. In the end he was making pretty good progress before her friend tried to run a block on it. Kaners wingman didn't do his job. I kind of felt bad for the guy. Lots of people being dbags trying to make sure that Patrick would sign or take a picture with him. Literally people screaming at him. Patrick, Patrick, here, right here. Over here Kaner. Look at me. Some chick started going off on him because she didn't like the fact that he was trying to pick up some other girl. Started with a rant on how none of these people are fans like she is. It was pretty comical. People trying to get based his security was funny as well. I have some pictures I took today that I will post up here. Funniest comment. Some chick that was from another state didn't know who he was. She says, Whats the big deal. I don't care who he is, he has a mullett. LMAO Cool post! They showed Kane on tv when he was hitting on the dark-haired girl with the blue shirt. She was smoking hot. And I was just sitting there thinking, Kaner has a mullet. This woman would never speak to him if he didn't play hockey. I'm happy for the guy. As long as he doesn't get behind the wheel of a car that way, I hope he enjoys the hell out of it. -
Official 2010 World Cup Thread

I agree that the goal Green let in was horrible, but it's hard to say whether or not the game would have gone the same way or not had that goal not been scored. The US decided to play very conservatively once that goal was scored, basically playing for the draw. Not saying they would have scored another goal had that one not gone in, but they may have attacked more and had more opportunities that could have resulted in a goal. You never really know. -
Enjoy your day, Dan!

QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 12, 2010 -> 07:43 AM) Read that the Jonah Hex runtime is down to 80 minutes. WTF. It will now suck and have no substance. It has Megan Fox in it. You were expecting substance?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) I did the exact same thing about a year ago. That is a horrendous, horrible, disgustingly terrible movie. I fell asleep about 20 minutes into it and was actually upset I didn't fall asleep earlier.

Keep it going, brotha! -
Oh, and by the way...guys/gals, I know this is sort of a "gray area" in terms of our forum etiquette, but just try and be sensitive and reasonable in regards to your comments about a ballplayer who's close friend/spouse/parent etc., posts here. Baseball talk is certainly appropriate, but just use common sense and try not to hurt anyone's feelings if at all possible. Can we all imagine if there were message boards discussing our performance at our jobs? Hah, what a riot that would be...

QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 03:01 AM) 5 IP - 4 H - 0 R - 0 BB - 6 K - 3/3 Saves That's his June line so far, maybe get off his back a little? I didn't see him pitch today, but apparently he has not only had much better results in his last few appearances, but he's also had much better stuff. If that is indeed the case, then this is certainly something to be pleased with. I think where guys like Fathom and Kalapse are coming from is that we shouldn't be jumping for joy that the guy has finally done in a few appearances what his pay grade suggests he should have been doing all along this season. Certainly a good sign though.

Guillen, Williams almost come to blows during shouting match

QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 03:21 AM) I don't necessarily think that KW should be fired either.. but jesus christ how could he go into this season with Kotsay and an unknown in Jones as the DH? I don't care what Ozzie wants, KW should have known better.. But the fallacy in your premise is that Kotsay and Andruw Jones are the cause of our losing record. They simply are not. And unless they were to be replaced by Justin Morneau and Ryan Braun, I'm not sure that it would have made a difference. -

QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 02:55 AM) If that were the case, why would any GM ever get fired? They could just say hey, don't blame me blame the players they are the ones not performing.. The problem is, the GM is the one who brought all these players here that aren't performing.. Don't misunderstand what I'm saying. Sometimes it is clear that a GM is not putting together a roster capable of winning anything. Sometimes he hamstrings his organization with ill-fated contracts and set it back for years. Sometimes he makes ridiculously poor trades which continuously work out in favor of the opposition. I think it's hard to say those things about Kenny. One can certainly argue the roster we went into this year with was quite imperfect - and I don't have an issue with that argument. But we must remember that rosters are often a work in progress at the beginning of a season, and appropriate tweaks or more significant changes may be made in order to strengthen an area or areas that need be. I think it's apparent that Kenny is a fan of such an approach. So what you have to look at then is whether their were indications that this core would perform this poorly, or even anywhere near as poor as it has performed. If you can honestly tell me you suspected Mark, Jake, and Gavin would pitch this terribly, well, you are a smart man. If you believed that Carlos, Gordon and AJ would perform this terribly, than you are a smart man. In my opinion, to expect those 6 players to perform this terribly for this long was completely unfathomable. I also don't believe there were ANY steps that could have been taken to produce a winning club with those 6 players performing this terribly. I think this is a case where the blame falls on the players. I don't believe firing this GM and replacing him would yield any different results, other than a full-scale rebuild, which may or may not prove to be any more successful than what we currently have. -
Week 2 in the books... What about you guys? A few of you are going into your last week or so, aren't you?

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:56 AM) World Cup. Only comes around every 4 years. Most widely played sport in the world. It's a no brainer for me. The World Cup is really difficult to compare to the others though...I mean, to be honest, if we want to count any of these trophies, I'd vote for the Tour De France.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:20 AM) ^Sounds like Kenny is pissed Ozzie made public comments about the situation and then went on another pointless table-flipping rampage. Rather than say anything to Ozzie he should go take this up with Cowley because Cowley is the one winning in all of this. Cowley's the one putting all this Guillen family s*** out there, stirring the pot, and all he's getting for it is readership. It's a damn shame it's come to this too. Kenny can be a great GM when he's concentrating on his job and trying to win. This year is all on Kenny, no matter what, because no matter what Ozzie ever said he wanted, Kenny is the GM and Kenny gets to call the shots. Please STFU and get this team some help. Yeah yeah, god forbid the blame actually fall on the players who are being paid millions to put up production far worse than replacement player levels. -

JR obviously doesn't want to fire either of them. I'm sure he'll tell them both to learn to get along or they'll both be out of jobs. My rosy prediction is we get on a roll here and everyone finds a way to get along. -
QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) How should I know, im not a GM But that doesn't change the fact that Kenny is the one who constructs the team.. I simply don't understand why people have to place the blame on someone who was making some pretty safe and fair assumptions coming into the season. At some point, the players have to perform. Yes, Kenny is responsible for constructing a successful roster. And yes, if he were to put blind faith in guys that had a history of being terrible, then I can understand the ire. But when an entire group of players perform this far below their career norms or reasonable projected career trajectories, it becomes impossible to plan for that contingency.
