  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) We've made up 1 game in the standings since June 1st. We were a game and a half closer to first on May 26th than we are today. That's alright...part of this is just getting the mojo working and improving our mental state and team chemistry. I know you don't particularly believe in momentum, but I think that when these guys start winning, the pressure starts coming off a bit, the rumors cease a little, they can start relaxing and playing more as they are capable of. Then they'll start eating into the deficit.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 10:09 AM) The problem is, the Rangers method is kind of stupid, since the development would have to start at a far younger age to ensure guys muscles are ready to handle it all. Might work a little easier with the high school guys, but college players have to go through quite the transformation and obviously at the very least it needs to be started from the low-minors onward. I think removing guys because of the sake of a pitch count is dumb, you have to watch for things like stress innings, mechanics, etc, but you also have to do what you can to ensure your guys aren't beat up. The reality is these guys make a lot more money than they did in the past so you are benefited by doing what you can to try to reduce the chances of an injury. In the old days, they didn't make tens of millions of dollars so if a guy got hurt, a team didn't have to worry about all of the money it had sank away and how it had ruined there budget. Right, most people have stated that going back to a 4-man rotation would require a full switch in all of the minor league affiliates and developing all your pitchers that way. What the Rangers are doing is gradually taking the emphasis off pitch counts and more on to "feel." Will be interesting to see what long-term affects it has, especially once the Texas heat starts baking them...
  3. A lot of it is what Jason said. You had a LOT more Jamie Moyer type guys that threw 70-83 mph and didn't max out their arms on every pitch like a Bobby Jenks or Eric Gagne. Then the conditioning was also a lot different. There were no pitch counts or 5 days rest and so your arm got conditioned to throwing more often and for longer duration. The Rangers, led by Nolan Ryan, are trying to make a transition to abandoning the obsession with pitch counts.

It's getting quiet in here folks...WHERE IS everyone???? I skipped a few days this past week due to drunkeness, so I am a few days behind my schedule. Had yoga yesteday, Legs & Back tonight...
  5. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) The CQ gounded into a DP in his first at bat and is now at at .200 average. Everyone else seems to be coming around abit except Quentin and I guess it's a bit early to say Gordon is snapping out of it. What's up? I know that someone in the news media suggsted carlos had gotten into some bad habits and altered his swing, etc, because of his injuries That's what Joe Morgan said Sunday night. Of course, he also was telling us all why Robert Green's goalkeeping technique was poor in the goal he gave up against the US on Saturday...
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 05:47 PM) A thread with kalapse and shack...me likey! Even if his RISP numbers haven't been great, I love seeing Rios bat with RISP. A very calming feeling. It's absolutely incredible to see the player Rios has been this year versus the player he was last year. I knew he was capable of this, but it still is difficult to believe my eyes at times. Outside of him coming over and inspiring a playoff run last year, this has been the absolute best-case scenario from that waiver claim.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) First time around vs Duke: .275/.325/.422/.747 Second time around: .370/.414/.583/.997 Third time around: .310/.379/.560/.938 Ooh, I like
  8. How about during the Bubonic Plague? It killed 1/3 of the population of Europe in the 14th century. Wiki
  9. QUOTE (chwhtsox @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 11:37 AM) I may be the only one, but I think you paid too much for a 2002 with 70K+ miles on it. I could be wrong but it seems expensive for an 8 year old car. That ship has kind of sailed though, hasn't it?
  10. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) I agree he is a talented hitter and would do pretty well here. But I don't want to me Beckham back to 3b. I think any value he has is as a 2b. Yeah, I agree, long-term. Johnson is only signed through the end of the year. So if you DFA'd Nix, you could use Johnson as a 2b, utility OF, DH for the remainder of the year while possibly sending down Beckham. You could even trade or DFA Andruw if need be. Depends on what the price is too obviously. I doubt Byrnes would give him away without getting a solid prospect back (which we do not have many of).
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 08:23 AM) He's playing above his head right now. You'll get a mediocre hitter for the rest of the year that can't field. Don't like it. I disagree. Obviously he got off to that red hot start, but he is a talented hitter. He's not some flash in the pan. He's going to be an .820 OPS player in this league for a long time, IMO. He's going to draw a lot of walks and probably settle into a .460-.470 slugging percentage, which is nothing to scoff at for a 2b. In our park he'd probably even be better.
  12. I must admit, I kept thinking the same thing everytime I saw the thread...
  13. Kelly Johnson is supposedly available from the Diamondbacks. I wonder if Kenny would consider calling up his good pal Josh Byrnes and contributing more to Arizona's farm system by trading for KJ. This would allow us to send Gordo down if need be, or, DFA Nix and have more flexibility once Mark Teahen comes back. I don't know if it's a move we would make though considering the message it might send to Gordo...
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) I'm expecting the AAPL shares to peak about 10 days after it gets released and then I'm going to sell. Probably not a bad time, Keith. I dunno though...I think the iPad has exceeded even the most optimistic projections...the stock just may not be done rising yet...
  15. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 10:19 AM) You are pretty much screwed. I believe the lemon law only applies to new cars. However, the fact that you have your extended warranty should cover you. I also should piont out that Jeep is notorious for having serious issues with there products. I know there will be people who will tell stories about there jeeps that have worked well, but in general, they build a very very poor product. The reason it is popular is because of the uniqueness and the Jeep Wrangler is a fantastic off-road vehicle. I had a jeep wrangler back in the day and I blew a hole about the size of my fist in the engine and the sucker still ran...
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 11:46 AM) Conor Jackson was traded to the A's. He's an ideal #2 hitter for that lineup, but this really doesn't fill the massive gap in power that the team has. Seems like both he and Q have been cursed throughout their young mlb careers...
  17. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) The symbol on the "pound" key (#) is called an octothorpe. That is awesome...I am going to start exclusively referring to it as the octothorpe and refuse to acknowledge this "pound key."
  18. iPhone 4 has been pre-ordered. There must have been a million people pre-ordering this morning, as it took me more than an hour just to get my order in. Site kept timing out.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 05:57 PM) Chest and Back. Holy f***, somehow cranked out 25 diamonds in the second rd. I set a goal of 15 and just kept pushing. Awesome. You the man, Rock! Keep it up broseph!
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 12:27 PM) Sick of looking at CQ (he makes me want to hurl) and Ramirez. Buehrle can stay because he's Buehrle. Can we get Rios and Danks? Anything but CQ. I think Kal said the photos they use for the banner are no longer available, so changing it would result in a lesser quality banner.
  21. Well, a winner tonight gets us to within 7 games and back into the picture a bit, if you ask me (I know, you didn't). I know many of you are experiencing mixed emotions as we win some games here finally, but I really think if we can get the mojo going a bit here over the next week we can get this season back on track. Of course, our M.O. here will be to win tonight to make it 5 in a row, then lose the next two series' to step back again. Really pumped for the game this evening.
  22. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) She is 13, and definitely old enough to know better. I only did that because she obviously wasn't listening before. When she loses her key she tries to lie about it and leaves the door unlocked/tries to substitute it with the screen door etc. I think she got the point this time. I did tell her if she loses this key, she loses the phone (which like I said she seems to have no problem keeping track of). She didn't have any money, but a new key cost about the same as a sundae, so... Oh, ok, I didn't realize she was that old. Yeah, 13 is old enough to know better. I was picturing her being 9 or something.
  23. Harsh! I have never been a parent (biologically or through marriage), but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night. How old is she, Keith? Excluding children from desserts or special occasions like that is pretty rough in my opinion. I always thought it sucked too when a punishment is applied for something like that without the warning in advance ("Next time you lose your key, you won't get dessert for a month..."). Maybe you could tell her the next time she loses her key she has to clean all the bathrooms in the house? Or some other equally unenjoyable task... My dad would have probably told me next time I lose it I'd just have to sleep in the yard til I found it again...
  24. He also is tied for the fewest opportunities. Perhaps if we start putting ourselves in more opportunities to win ballgames his numbers will increase along with the more regular work. I hope so anyways. His recent outings have been a big improvement.
  25. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) I just won 2 tickets to tonight's game, but as I'm at my sisters house I have no chance to go back home to get my Sox gear. Anywhere I can buy a Sox t-shirt anywhere in Wrigleyville? There is a store right over by Wrigley Field that sells mostly Cubs stuff, but they have stuff from all teams. I am sure they will have some things in there. I think it's right across the street from the Cubby Bear.
