Sox vs Atlanta 6-22 game thread 7:10 first pitch
iamshack replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2010 Season in Review
Guys, he's trying to protect him against the stud arms right now. -
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 01:27 PM) Any names I'd have for that Blue Moon/Guinness combination cannot be repeated in polite company. I actually don't totally hate Blue Moon, there are just way better witbier options out there that are easy to come by. Blue Moon beats the heck out of the Gawdawful AB ShockTop though. Blech. I've rarely encountered a Bell's product that isn't top notch, and Oberon is no exception. Lighter bodied than what I usually reach for but one of the better American wheats I'd say. Ahh yes, I don't claim to be a sophisticated drinker. I drink to get drunk

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) Might as well put this here as well http://bbref.com/pi/shareit/yB88b Yay! Dibs is on there!

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 12:18 PM) The Sox didn't have anything close to "a heck of a pitching staff" in '97, when Schueler sold off 3.5 games behind Cleveland. That said, I agree that Kenny won't sell if we're still this close a month from now. I'm not talking about the Sox. I'm talking about the Blue Jays.

This win streak...how much credit goes to Ozzie?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 12:13 PM) The reason I hated the lineup decision on Saturday is that we came off of a very inspiring win the night before beating Strasburg. You want to build on that momentum, and he put the worst lineup possible on the field. Yes, it paid off cause Peavy pitched great. However, it was the wrong decision IMO to keep the positive vibes going. He lucked out, just like how he got unlucky bringing in Thornton sooner, rather than later in the Tigers game we lost. I dunno, Rios came out looking like a machine Sunday. They had 15 hits or something. I don't think they lost the positive vibes too much with that win Saturday. -
Come on guys. They have no other lefty besides Thornton. Give me a break.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 11:43 AM) I'm stuck as well, I do want to watch tonight though, but they are 3-0 in this stretch when I didn't watch. I'll just watch and if they lose, I'll take the blame for it. No, I'd really rather you don't watch. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 12:06 PM) If you're willing to overpay for one of their players (i.e. Hudson for Gonzalez) I'm sure they'd be happy to do that deal. But there's no good reason for them to sell right now, you're correct. Are you willing to overpay for Alex Gonzalez?

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 12:01 PM) Wasn't that Ron Scheuler? And yes, that was not Kenny, it was Ron.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 11:58 AM) I hope you were asking that same question in 1997 when Kenny gave up just 3.5 back. EDIT: And chasing 1 team. I was. But that was also on July 31st, not June 22nd.

This win streak...how much credit goes to Ozzie?
iamshack replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This thread is f***ing fantastic. I don't know how many posts in how many threads after how many games in which how many posters have been blaming Ozzie, blaming Kenny, blaming JR, blaming EVERYONE but the players for our losing record. Now the players start performing a bit, and NO ONE but a very small few wants to give credit to Ozzie or Kenny or JR, but ONLY to the players for actually performing. What a crock of s***. -

QUOTE (maki @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) Sitting one of those on Saturday and one on Sunday probably increases your chances on Saturday more than double the decrease on Sunday from sitting one. He had 3 guys hitting under .210 in the 3-5 slots, one of which is running at a clip much lower than .210 after a hot start. There's no good reason a major league manager should put that lineup out there and I'd venture a guess that 29 other managers would agree. You really can't say a specific trip is the result of a manager's prowess or idiocy. Manager's make a small amount of important decisions a game, most of which are scrutinized, but in actuality there's one right choice and the decision makes itself. The shortcomings lie in things like lineup cards and ignoring what the performance of your team and individuals is telling you. Well, I said he did a good job on the trip, not that he was the reason they won 10 of 11. And I disagree with you as to the decision to sit Rios and PK in the same game. I think it was a calculated gamble that paid off. -
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) That would probably be a good idea for at least this year. They should look to get better in the long term instead of trying to chase down three juggernauts in the short term, and that will be exactly what they'll do. It's just a question of when they want to start selling, but I'd approach them now. Overybay will be gone for nothing since he's not hitting, but they'll look to get something from Downs, Frasor, Alex Gonzalez too most likely... They are 4.5 games back, with a heck of a pitching staff. There is no way in hell they are going to give up in mid-June at 4.5 games back. What the f*** is the point of even having a professional team if that is going to be the way they operate. This is pure and absolute nonsense.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) Oberon or Blue Moon for beer. Jack Daniels/Hennessey/Courvousier + Coca Cola is great year round. I've been drinking a lot of "Eclipse's" (I'm sure Jim has 7 different names for this drink). It's just Blue Moon and Guiness combined. I find it allows me to not get tired of the fruity Blue Moon as quickly since I have some Guiness in there to balance it out.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) Because the three best teams in baseball all happen to be in their division and ahead of them in the standings? Oh, so maybe they just shouldn't even ever try, right? Because that is probably going to be the case for the next 5-10 years. Maybe they should just become the AAA team for the rest of the League instead of having any delusions of competing themselves!

QUOTE (Wanne @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) I guess if there was one guy out there I'd really target it'd have to be Markakis. That is one really bad team so young players may be attractive to the O's at this point. Hell...I'd gladly give the CQ and a spec or 3 (depending on the level). Tough to pry him away probably...but they could save some quiche (believe he makes around $7M...which is a steal IMO). Wouldn't hurt to ask... Yeah, pretty sure Mr. Angelos is in love with his fellow Greek.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 12:16 PM) Yeah but we had a pretty solid top of the rotation in 2008. And our rotation hasn't been strong this year. It's had a nice 2 week stretch against the worst teams in MLB. So you don't look at the career numbers and think they have a chance to revert to form and be strong for the remainder of the year?
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 10:35 AM) Agree again, but I still don't think buying high on Alex Gonzalez costs a bunch. Imagine what our return for Freddy Garcia would be and then maybe even subtract some. That's what I think he'd cost. Why are the Blue Jays, who are in contention, going to trade us Alex Gonzalez?

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 11:10 AM) Look, I've gone on record as stating Ozzie is the worst in-game manager in baseball. Still, for whatever reason, he probably contributes to some of the success that this team has had in some capacity over his tenure, and his managerial record seems too good to just be players performing despite him. I agree with you, I think Ozzie did a nice job on the road trip. I wasn't pleased with the lineup card Saturday, but his hunch worked! We won without Rios OR Konerko, which pretty much means the results were perfect. -
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 10:59 AM) A well-made mojito is the absolute best summer drink. A caipirihna is a close second. The key phrase.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 09:07 AM) Don't even bother upgrading an iphone 3G with the new IOS 4 software. It is a colossial waste of time. You'll need at least an iphone 3Gs for all of the cool new features to work. The only difference I see is the ability to group programs into folders and ipod playlist stuff. Thankfully the iphone 4 will be here Thursday morning. Yeah, it didn't seem to do much to my 3G either...I tried to find the usual video which explains the features of the update, but couldn't find it...

QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 08:53 AM) Since I have already excluded myself from Whitesox dreams I cant watch anymore because that would be shipp jumping. They have been doing well without me quite frankly so I dont want to ruin their success and get into following every game again. Still not a team I am dying to watch...sorry just saying. Now come on, dude. Why the hell you gotta piss in our Cheerios, yet AGAIN?? -
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 22, 2010 -> 07:49 AM) It just "happens" to be the day Verizon is announcing Droid X. hmmm..... I don't think they are releasing it at the stores early. I think it just came out of China earlier than expected and so the individual West Coast shipments may be a bit ahead of schedule.

Call me a pansy, but I've been making frozen mango margaritas lately. Frozen chunks of mango, ice, a few teaspoons of sugar, a healthy amount of tequila, some Grand Marnier, some water, and blend. Yummmmm.
