  1. Jeesh....Strasburg's changeup is faster than Mark's fastball...
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:12 AM) Pass it how exactly? It wont have more apps, and it wont be as universally usable as the iphone with things like cars and audio devices. My gf has the incredible, and though I think its a great phone with some great features, it still doesnt touch the iphone. Rock, what were you saying about existing AT&T customers being grandfathered in for an upgrade? Will it be the $99 and $199 price points?
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) Hawk Harrelson Night tonight at the Cell. I'm excited. As much of a homer as he is, I grew up listening to him and you have to appreciate just how much he loves the WhiteSox. He, as well as Pat Foley, is the reason I'm a broadcast major. The Hawk - eh - roo
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) Anyone wish Chris Sale could be traded, right now? Mike Lowell is a tempting vetetan bat for the heart of this order. No, but that would be pretty awesome if he could do a Mike Leake impersonation and be ready by OD next season...

Legs & Back today...not looking forward to those damn Iso Toe Rolls....they may be the single most painful move in all of P90X for me...WOW
  6. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 02:11 PM) This might be one of the worst game thread creations I've ever seen. Well done Mark. Thanks Gerry. Now go f*** yourself.
  7. Gavin Floyd, 2-6, 6.64 ERA, seeks to straighten himself out against a Tigers team which he has owned over the course of his career. Floyd is 5-0 lifetime against the kitties with a 3.34 ERA and the White Sox are 10-2 against the Tigers when Floyd starts against Detroit, including 6-0 in US Cellular Field. Armando Galarraga makes his first start since his controversial "almost" perfect game, a Jim Joyce away from putting himself into the record books. Galarraga is 2-1 with a nifty 2.57 ERA this season, but is a lackluster 1-2 and 5.06 against the White Sox in three career starts and two relief appearances. The White Sox are 1-0 against the Tigers thus far this season, taking the sole contest of a scheduled two-game series that was cut in half by Mother Nature last month in Detroit. The White Sox took that game by a score of 6-2. Detroit is 12-17 on the road, and lost 5 of 9 in Chicago last season. Meanwhile, the White Sox look to get their home mojo going, where they are only 13-17 at home this season.
  8. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 11:46 PM) Well yeah, it's always easier to trade the better players during seasons that are already in the gutter. But realistically, Mark makes a lot of money, he has a NTC (meaning that even if the casuals aren't paying attention, they will be when they read the articles about the Sox trying to get Mark to waive a NTC, which probably happens) and we're very, very, very likely to lose that trade completely. We'd probably get nothing at all for Mark worth a s***, and our big win would be not having to pay him $14M in 2011. And how much of a win is that really? Peavy's contract is far worse, and if we're really that worried about Mark's health, we can shut him down and have him prepare for 2011. And I'd actually rather have Mark on shelf with his $14M all year in 2011 if the choice were that or a 4-5 year deal for Carl Crawford, which is probably where a lot of fans think the Sox should throw that money. It just seems like there are way too many experts here willing to completely write Mark off when he's done nothing but show he's a greatly dependable player. And it's because of his lack of stuff, which happens every single time he has a stretch where he struggles, and I know you've seen it too since you're here on this board. Because Peavy throws harder and has nastier offspeed stuff he's more likely to turn it around than Mark, despite Mark's entire career. And then there are those who say Mark has lost too much off his fastball, too much this, too much that. Well, the Sox have Hermie if anything is wrong physically, and they have Coop if anything is wrong mechanically, and Buerhle is all there mentally, so I'll just go ahead and put my faith in Mark himself, his history, and the Sox staff, rather than a bunch of zit-faced little f***ers over there at Fangraphs. I'm not saying we can or should trade Mark, or Jake for that matter. I'm in the camp of still liking this core and if we can add the right supplemental players, AND THE CORE PLAYERS CAN GET THEIR HEADS OUT OF THEIR ASSES AND ACTUALLY PERFORM AS THEY ARE CAPABLE OF, then we can still be a scary team to contend with. I was just making the point that if you are going to deal away some fan favorites, this would be the time to try and do it. You'd probably have some fans come back for OD next year and ask "what happened to Mark and Pauly?"

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 10:02 AM) Yes, she really does. Man, I had no idea! They covered her so much in Up in the Air...
  10. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 11:27 PM) That's why I said aside from some of the internet fans. As for the regular Sox fans, I don't think they're at that point yet. Not even close. Regular Sox fans are not the sharpest tools in the shed though... And while there might be some backlash for a few weeks, this is the perfect season to unload the fan favorites. The casual fans will be giving up on the team anyways and spending their money elsewhere.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) Cardinals pitched two of their possible starting rotation replacements tonight, and they gave up 10 runs in 5 innings. Isn't Vin Scully (minus the awful dye job) just magic to listen to? I could watch/listen to Dodger games forever...
  12. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 06:56 PM) I thought that was Gargamel's cat. Oh, the memories...

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 09:27 PM) Actually no. Since I had such a large loop for the curls, there wasn't enough length on the band to hit me. This was the first and last time I use a band for the crouching cohen curls lol. I snapped one on some kind of deep swimmer's press or something and it caught me in the face. Not fun. I just gotta say, I love P90X. I have never spent money so well.
  14. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) big difference between the two and i dont see trumbo as much of a prospect I'm just telling you the truth, Sir. Was never comparing the two as prospects.

QUOTE (The Gooch @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 09:05 PM) Also did this today. I use weights for most exercise but use the band on a select few for variety. I broke the band today on the crouching cohen curls, so it looks like all weights for the rest of the way... Did it snap up and hit you? I hate those damn crouching cohen curls...Damn them!
  16. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 10:01 PM) I am not so sure the Angels really want PK. They may have been interested years ago but that doesn't mean they are now. Not all GMs have multi year obsessions with players like Kenny, However I am sure there is no way they are giving up Trout for him. A first round draft pick one year later who is having great success is not going anywhere for an over 30 1b who is a 4 month player. I really don't think we will get much in return for AJ. Texas is not going to trade Smoak for him and the Giants will have no interest in him again after they got burned acquiring him the last time. I know a pretty decent Angels source who thinks they do want PK, and they would give up Trumbo for him. Trout? No.
  17. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 08:37 PM) I don't have an iPhone or any smart phone and my contract on my crap phone is expiring. Honestly, every six months something better will be coming out so either I dip in now or wait forever. Of course, the final decision is whether AT&T can be trusted here. I've never heard anything bad out here. I've had an iPhone (and therefore AT&T) for about 3 years now. I have lived in two different states and metropolitan areas with it (Chicago and Las Vegas). My experience has been good. I have heard of dropped calls, but I have had very few dropped calls over the life of my contract (less than 10 in 3 years). Reception has always been very strong, in both Chicago as well as Las Vegas. The one issue that has crept up is that the tremendous growth of the iPhone (and all the accompanying data demands that came along with it) has caught AT&T by surprise and put a strain on their network. My experience with this was basically when they enabled picture messaging, there was maybe 24-48 hours where I had to reset my phone every few hours because I could tell that I was not getting texts coming in. Other than that 1 or 2 day period, I have not experienced any noticeable downside of the supposed strained network. Whether this will be an issue in the future is unknown. As Apple (and Blackberry) continue to upgrade the capabilities of their hardware, allowing for more streaming of HD quality video and video calling, it will become more and more of a burden on the network to handle the traffic and data demands. For a more technical explanation, read some of the things Rock and Jason were discussing last week in this thread. All I can tell you is I have really had no issues with AT&T, and if that is not an issue, the iPhone is probably the most consistent, highest quality phone on the market over the last 2-3 years. I doubt the iPhone 4 will be any different. I know I will be pre-ordering mine next Tuesday

Shoulders & Arms out of the way, going to take a break and then hit yoga as I missed a day yesterday.
  19. QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 06:34 PM) Law didn't like him, some reports say his mechanics trend to injury. It's not totally rosy but he does have more upside than most of the guys that we were projected to pick. If we would have passed on him, and the team with the 14th pick would have taken him, Law would have fell in love with Sale...
  20. I know this is not likely, but we could put ourselves 2 games back of Detroit with a sweep of them here. I know, I know, you're happy for me...
  21. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) I don't really care. I'm just sick of watching him hit. He has a terrible approach at the plate. When he grounded into that double play on the first pitch after two walks and a hit batter, that was the last straw with me. I really want to see him go. Oh man, I am right there with you...that was infuriating. Especially after the pitcher then followed that up by walking Alexei on 4 pitches!
  22. Scenario, I can understand your difference in philosophy... But please recognize that most of that difference comes from our Manager, not our General Manager. Kenny wanted Thome back. Kenny wanted Damon. I think Teahan was Kenny's player, so I won't speak for that move. But the overall offensive philosophy is Ozzie's, not Kenny's. And maybe that is Kenny's big, big mistake - trusting Ozzie - but I think that decision was made with Jerry as well. In the end, I really don't think it would matter a whole lot right now. We might be 2-3 games better with those different offensive players and this same crappy SP rotation?
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 05:13 PM) Gotta disagree with you shack. The key reason for all of this is that we needed Beckham and Quentin to produce. You have those guys producing and this offense is probably in the upper part of the league, even with the other guys struggling. The DH spot hasn't been the problem. It's been the guys they've been rotating with. I think you're misunderstanding my argument. I agree the DH spot hasn't been the problem. I also agree having some of the core guys not hit, such as Quentin, Beckham, and AJ is killing us far more than Juan Pierre and the Kotsay/Jones platoon. What I am saying is that the reason Kenny did not pull the trigger on Thome, or maybe some other potential big bats like Vlad, is that Ozzie kept insisting that he had what he wanted. Kenny relented and Jerry said "we can't hold the guy accountable as manager unless we give him the kind of roster he wants." So Kenny and JR reluctantly let Ozzie have his way. At least for a trial period. I fully believe Kenny thought he would be adding an offensive piece around mid-June or early July to fortify a decent offensive team and a top-tier pitching team, and that would be enough to put us in position to win this division. Unfortunately, it has turned out like really no one saw, which is Quentin/Gordo/AJ all hitting .200 AND our SP performing terribly.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) I have a ppt I can email you as well if you PM me your email address. I print it out and post it next to my computer to remind me everyday. Just keep pressing play. If you have a s***ty day and dont feel like it, just press play and try your hardest to do some of it, you'll find that your energy level picks up and you actually end up doing the whole thing. Couldn't agree more.
  25. I look at this pitching staff and I expected them to pitch very closely to the 2005 staff. I looked at this offense and thought they would be better offensively than the 2005 lineup card. I just honestly believed we had enough offensively, and any shortcomings would be addressed in-season. Look at it this way, at least we didn't trade away a bunch of pieces for some bat that would have been irrelevant because we are pitching so poorly. The key reason for all of this is that Ozzie wanted to try to win with this offense. That is the reason Kenny and Jerry let us go into the offseason this way.
