  1. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:29 AM) It'll be interesting to see what gets leaked about Sale in the coming months. Sale needs to tread lightly in Boston, or the media there will tear him a new one. Not if he performs.
  2. I'm all for acquiring the best players possible, but for the position players close to the majors, I think I'd target outfielders or corner infielders above ss. Interestingly, however, many of the top prospects happen to be ss.
  3. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:00 PM) As much as I'd hope to unanimously win every deal during our rebuild, I'm not upset that this package (on its surface) appears "fair." As much as we'd like to believe Sale didn't need to be moved, there wasn't any other choice. His value is at its peak and I believe the risk of keeping him outweighed the risk of not receiving enough in return. However, Hahn better damn well hope Moncada becomes a stud at the minimum. Also atleast one of Kopech/Diaz/Basabe becomes a 3+ WAR player. The point of rebuilding is to receive numerous contributing players in place of one. We're not helping ourselves in a one for one. I'm not criticizing the deal or Hahn, very proud of him pulling through here and doing perhaps the most Un-White Sox move in the team's history. For the first time in years I'm excited for our future. I just hope this (and future) deals work out because this offseason will determine his fate. Now I have to think Shields being here to eat innings is huge. Hahn still isn't off the hook for trading an intruiging prospect for him, but since he's unmovable, he can go 7+ innings every.....damn....start now Generally, I'd agree, but if nothing else, Moncada actually has the potential to become a more valuable player than Sale by himself.
  4. The Nats want to make a splash. Give them Q AND Eaton in a blockbuster. Giolito/Robles/Dunning/Neuse/Stevenson/Severino/Reetz.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:03 PM) I'm honestly gonna be sadder to see Q go. God speed, Flying Serpent. The blood of his penis!
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:21 PM) No chance. It's retired. Ahh, didn't think about that. Good call. It's a shame because I would honestly buy Moncada's jersey tonight...there is 25% off at mlb.com
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) What is Moncada's jersey number going to be with the Sox? Press conference scheduled, or is he out of the country? You would think with season ticket renewals going out that they'd try to milk Moncada for all he's worth, along with Anderson and Rodon. Yeah, and after 2018, they'll have a much better idea where they at in the rebuilding process. Serious players...not for Harper and Machado, but the next tier is certainly a possibility. I'm going to guess he goes with #11.
  8. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:55 PM) That's insane. The one year we have two aces to move, the value of a closer skyrockets. That's ok, we have bullpen arms to move as well. Hahn is going to move most of these guys. It's just going to be gut-wrenching waiting on him to do it. I'll say I am super comfortable with him doing it too; I have zero concern that he'll jump the gun on anything.
  9. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:32 PM) That's what makes me nervous about it. This was a trade we were supposed to "win no matter what". It being called fair has me skeptical. I don't think there is any possible way that was going to happen. We could have gotten the Red Sox top 5 prospects and there would have still been people that preferred the certainty of Sale.
  10. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:30 PM) Might also get them to bite on DRob. They're in on Davis who is also expensive and has health questions. Maybe package them together even. Makes me think they've given up on a blockbuster with the Sox if they are trying to get Davis at the last minute.
  11. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:21 PM) Of course if Moncada busts we lose the trade, but that was the case if we got a Bregman/Turner/Swanson and they busted too, so that's not really saying much. Right. The question I have is does Moncada have a higher possibility of busting than say Bregman/Swanson/Giolito?
  12. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:20 PM) From what I understand the WSox asked for Benintendi first and were told no. Yeah, it sounds as though he was not someone they were willing to give up... Sounds like DD preferred to keep Benintendi/Devers over Moncada/Kopech.
  13. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:14 PM) Our Sox might have just liked Moncada more, doesn't mean the bosox liked Beni more. Took me a while to figure out who the hell 10D was.
  14. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:08 PM) I'm not a scout, just a fan, but I really, really love Kopech and think he can be an ace if he can smooth out his command like Rodon did this year. I said earlier today I think he's better than Giolito and I truly believe that. Just filthy stuff. High risk but the Verlander/Syndergaard comps are valid. Yeah, I actually feel good about him. It's Moncada...after reading 9 pages of SoSH I am now convinced he is the next Andy Marte.
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:10 PM) What's to worry about though? We've proven we're not winning with Chris. Yeah, ultimately that isn't a bad way to think about it.
  16. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 06:53 PM) Well said. This is all super exciting. Maybe we resign him in 3 years when the army is ready to invade enemy lands. You seem to be coming around!
  17. QUOTE (Special K @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:01 PM) I just worry that we just traded a legit Hall of Famer in his prime on a bargain contract for two unproven prospects and didn't get one proven player in return. Love Moncandas ceiling and if he pans out as a superstar or even very good player, then the deal was probably worth it. But if he flops, we got hosed. That's my thought. To have a hall of famer in their prime on your team is a very rare thing... I just read the Boston perspective ala SoSH and of course they were dismissing Moncada and Kopech as lottery tickets, but seemed to think Devers, Swihart and Groom are locks to be perennial all stars. Bottom line is there is certainly more risk on the White Sox side of things, however, the White Sox obviously get a high potential reward as well. The most interesting thing is while both of these prospects have HIGH ceilings, they also have some low floors. Here's hoping it works out.
  18. Fangraphs had it right last summer Didn't see this posted here.
  19. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:33 PM) Same here as well. The idea of X player will just play this position that he never played before. It requires thousands and thousands of reps to drill in some of this first step footwork for those who never played the OF especially a premier position such as CF. Unless you are okay with your really fast player chasing balls he misplayed in the gap or on the other side of it getting hurt because he is trying to make up for a bad jump and diving. In reality we need to make sure we attempt to develop him at his natural position first. I don't see lots of people complaining that Dustin Pedroia, Javey Baez or Jose Altuve are wasting their talents playing 2b. Middle infield is a premier position and I dont care if my best athletes are up the middle of the infield first. Fair enough, but it can be done. Trea Turner, for example.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:43 PM) lol, you would be a great pitcher, because you can throw curveballs with the best of them. If anyone is to blame for that, it's me. Leave poor Caulfield alone.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:23 PM) I don't see the logic at putting a freak athlete at a position that utilizes his athletic ability about as little as possible. And that he's struggling with in regards to things like footwork and arm angles. Seems like CF would be a more natural position and would allow him to focus more on his offense.
  22. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:24 PM) If this is true, and we have no reason to doubt it, then they did well to get the deal done with Boston today. There is an opportunity cost here and they avoided it. Now they can focus on the other dominoes behind Sale and keep moving in the rebuild. With Hahn's presser, and this tweet, it makes it seem as though Kopech was offered initially, and then perhaps the Nats offer was enough to force the Red Sox into conceding Moncada. Not sure that I believe this is the order it went in though.
  23. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:22 PM) Apparently the 31 million dollar signing bonus, no matter how spread out, would have always been paid by the Red Sox, so they didn't really "pitch in" another 11 million or so. That's my understanding at least after reading larry's post at SSS. I don't think you can "trade" a signing bonus if that makes any sense. Yeah, we talked about Moncada a lot in the weeks leading up to the Winter Meetings and I don't think we ever assumed anything other than the Red Sox would be paling that money. In fact, some folks thought that is the very reason they thought the Red Sox would never deal Moncada. Not until I saw the posts and tweets saying that the Red Sox were doing us some favor by picking up money did I think otherwise.
