Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
iamshack replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:17 PM) Eaton is a quality player on a very reasonable long term contract, it's like he was our secret or something. Now the fact that this is what they would've given us for Sale plus another guy... well, that's why I cracked the joke To be fair, the advanced analytics folks (Sickels, Fangraphs) seem to think the return was high, but not quite as terrible as the general industry chatter. -

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:12 PM) What blowback do you mean? The Nationals for giving up a monster haul? The entire industry is basically laughing at the Nats right now. -
Thank you Adam!

QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:06 PM) Yanks need another lefty in the pen. Maybe they look at Dan Jennings? Everything the insiders are saying is they won't be looking to part with any of their premium prospects, so it's doubtful they pursue Q I guess. Jenning is a guy I wouldn't mind hanging on to and giving a slightly larger role to see if he can increase his value.

QUOTE (Ezio Auditore @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:04 PM) Is it too late for the Nationals to reboot before the auto save hits? The blowback by everyone actually concerns me in regards to our trade of Q. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:04 PM) Yanks aren't going to spend that much money on a closer and set-up guy. No way. They still have Betances, right?

QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:45 PM) Just read a piece Jeff Passan wrote on the rebuild and he thinks Jones has tremendous value and said he is signed to a "goofy-cheap contract", which averages about $3M a year for 5 years. Chapman just signed for $17M a year, larger than Jones' entire 5 year deal. How the White Sox Won the Winter Meetings -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:00 PM) The Yankees are insane. Next, they'll be taking Robertson back again (well, they already tried that once, if not twice)... Just taking Robertson back?

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:36 PM) Assuming there are no stupid signings in the next couple years...they might realistically have 70-90 million to spend on free agents in 2019/2020. A 7-9 year mega deal for a 26 year old prime Machado might end up fitting perfectly if a good chuck of these guys pan out. Especially considering you are going to want that anchor type of veteran to come in and provide stability and credibility to attract other free agents. You absolutely want to target at least one guy like that. -

QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:09 PM) I know Hahn hasn't slept much the past couple of days, so I'm wondering if the Sox are just gonna call it a winter meetings and get some rest and continue trying to work upon frameworks established this week. I'd be as ecstatic as anyone if we get another midnight blockbuster, though. Maybe they are powering through it and trying to get a deal done tonight. If they have a suitor, they will work on it as much as necessary. I don't think it will be determined by our FO. It will be determined by the market. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:12 PM) I can tell you one thing for sure. I will be watching less baseball this year than I have in any season probably since Robin Ventura left Chicago as a free agent. I have not been nearly this bitter with the White Sox since that specific day. I had thought about Soxfest after getting a nice bonus this quarter, and there is no way I am spending $500 to do that now. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. -

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:15 PM) I think it likely would be Martes/Tucker/Reed or 2 of em. We're on the same page lol. The original thing was that you said Bregman from Houston or Rodgers from Colo or no deal. Definitely a deal to be made for me with Houston without Bregman IMO. Yeah, I don't know how I feel about Reed, but I think with a guys like Sale/Q/Eaton, I think I still the first piece to be an ultra-premium piece. I get the depth part, and I have argued about this with others, but for those three contracts, I put quality over quantity. We can build depth through trading other less valuable assets and the draft, but for these three pieces, I need quality. -

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 06:06 PM) A top 100 current ranking isn't everything, is what I'm trying to say. He's the type of guy who will likely be a top 20 prospect by the end of 2017. Same with Blake Rutherford from the Yanks if he keeps continuing what he's doing. A guy like Maitain, who's what 70s or 80s could be a top 3 prospect in a year or 2. I get it. To me, that should be a complimentary piece for a guy like Quintana, not the centerpiece. -

QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:48 PM) while i agree with the fact that we have been horrendous at developing position players, there are two things that are currently giving me some comfort. 1 - we aren't done yet, and 2 - there has been a clear shift in philosophy in our evaluation of young hitters in the last year or two, and I think it will certainly be for the better in the future Agreed. -

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:59 PM) That's not what they would be asking themselves. They'd be asking themselves questions like, does it make more sense to keep Bregman and trade for a guy like Verlander (or other SP available). Sale is in another class. They're not going to give up Bregman to save the cash, which is a big part of why Quintana is so valuable. Actually, Quintana is pretty darn close to Sale's class as well. -

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:51 PM) Why because he's currently ranked as merely top 50 prospect? Look into him. IIRC, draft day his comp was Ted Williams. Not saying he'll be Ted Williams, but that is damn high praise for a high school hitter. The hit tool is as legitimate as anyone in the minors. Pretty much, yes. He's also 19. Assuming those rankings are somewhat accurate, there are reasons there are 49 other prospects ranked ahead of him. -

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:45 PM) Except Bregman was in the Majors and Rodgers was in A ball. They wouldn't budge on Bregman for Sale, why would they for Q? Rodgers will be where Bregman is now, in 2 years. I'm happy with Rodgers+++ or Tucker+++ (I'm very high on Tucker). Slightly would prefer Rodgers but I think Tucker ends up as a phenomenal hitter. And they now have seen two other teams pay a high price for Sale and Eaton. They will be asking themselves the question soon...who do we need more, Bregman or Quintana? I need something better than a package starting with Tucker. -

QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:36 PM) Rodgers is 20 years old and had 31 doubles and 19 home runs. He is by all accounts an elite, elite prospect and would look very nice at 3B in the future for us. You didn't get 4 or 5 Moncadas for Sale, did you? Why would you get 4 or 5 Rodgers for Q? Rodgers is a top 10 prospect in all of baseball. Rodgers + 2 or 3 guys gets it done. Yeah, I want either Rodgers or Bregman for Q, otherwise I am fine holding steady for now. -

QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:59 PM) Rumors they may look to move an OF to make room for Trumbo. Side note: trumbo in coors would be awesome. And looking for a TOR starter. I dunno if tonight is going to be nuts or if it'll be dead. -

I honestly think the Quintana deal would be done if the Sox were willing to back off Bregman. I think the Stros need to offer him up or they aren't getting Q. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:26 PM) Apparently your fandom is based on the BA rankings, and not what is going on with the actual major league team. What has gone on the last 2-3 years with the mlb team that you have enjoyed?
