  1. I think it's the constant marketing and PR stuff that annoys people. Frankly, Rose needs to go away for a year. Work on his rehab in quiet. Don't get people amped up for a return. See you next October.
  2. I got the Vikings one....Sunday night
  3. Hadn't seen this on the shot that won GT the game: How on earth did the ref miss this? It's literally right in front of him.
  4. I thought you're supposed to turn that motion stuff ON to get the 120/240hz refresh rate?
  5. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 10:45 AM) You won't notice a "quality" difference on slow moving things or static images...the resolution and color production is mostly the same. However, ANY sport or fast moving image is instantly noticeable, as LED/LCD has to use tricks to keep up, while Plasma does not. Yeah I still don't think the vast majority of people notice the difference (or really care). I have friends who have plasmas and I have LED's and while watching a game i've never thought "hey! that's so much better than my TV! I need one."
  6. Depressing that the ad at the top of my soxtalk page for the nba thread was the Bulls/Heat matchup tonight. DRose and Lebron were on it. Sigh.
  7. IMO 99% of consumers won't notice the slight difference in picture quality between the LED's and plasmas. The only way the normal person can really see it is if you have both set up in a room right next to each other. That's why LED won out.
  8. 10mbs download speed is plenty to handle youtube videos.
  9. I'm sure it's just to talk about his rehab
  10. Played 5-6 hours of AC4 this week and I'm really liking it. A big upgrade over AC3. Not as much modern day side story crap (at least not yet) and I like that you just jump into the story. I also really like how they forced the 20-25 minute install the first time you play, but thereafter load times are pretty minimal. AC3 had no flow with all of the load times I thought.

  12. Braid and Limbo were awesome.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 12:01 PM) I agree, but the last 20 years says differently. What blows my mind, is that from 2000-2009, Illinois made two bowl games, but both were BCS bowls. twice you managed to make the BCS, yet the other 8 seasons you couldn't even win 6 games once? You almost have to try to fail that bad. I was reading up on the Illinois football wikipedia page yesterday (so depressing). All time Illinois is 8-9 in bowl games. 17 bowl games in their HISTORY. That's f***ing pathetic, even if there were only like 10 bowl games a year up until the 80's.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 11:29 AM) Anytime people interact on a non action level, you complain. Anytime people have emotional moments on shows(not just WD), you complain. Anytime a situation happens where people make the wrong decision, you complain. Anytime a decision is implausible, but made to further the plot(which, all decisions in any show do), you complain. Face it, you watch shows just to tell yourself and us what is wrong with them. Your enjoyment with these shows ends very quickly after they begin. I could look back through this thread for any show you watch and discuss, and there is always a Lori, a Dana Brody, and once you find that person the show is just destroyed in your eyes Not true at all. There are many shows I love - Breaking Bad, GoT, Masters of Sex, Boardwalk, etc. I don't complain about any of them because they don't really suffer from these issues. Homeland WAS excellent and my complaints about this season are the same as many others out there. When I say a show is boring or certain characters are annoying it doesn't necessarily mean I hate the show. I'm a nitpicker, no denying that, but don't confuse my complaints with thinking there is no redeemable quality about a show.

  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 08:43 AM) http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/04/us/one-m...tml?hp&_r=0 What sort of country do we live in where it's even a question whether this man should be charged with murder? Yeah most if not all self defense/SYG laws require a threat to your life before you can respond like that. Seems like an easy charge to me.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 11:05 AM) LOL it isnt worth the argument. He is an admitted plot nitpicker. There is no show that he can turn off the "THATS NOT RIGHT" button for To me there's a difference between problem solving or actions that are logical but slightly unbelievable (think of some of the Breaking Bad stuff - the huge magnet at the police station, the train heist, the multiple jail murders, etc. Every step made sense in context of the show but it's not very believable that someone could pull it off so easily) and just completely inane decision making in Walking Dead that is made purely to move the plot along even if it doesn't make any sense (nearly getting Glenn killed with the well-zombie, everything that happened with the Governor and Woodbury, Rick killing the pigs 10 feet from the fence he's trying to protect even though he should know that the zombies would eat the pigs and then go right back to the fence....which they did! etc.) I can accept over-the-top stuff. It's a fictional world afterall. I can't accept moronic ones that make no sense in the world of the show.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 10:57 AM) Have you been outside your house? There are plenty of morons out there. I don't think the characters in TWD are appreciably dumber than normal people. Well that's true, but I think it's reasonable to assume that the people who survive a zombie apocalypse have some intelligence about survival.
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 08:43 PM) An Illini fan calling a bowl game a joke? That's like a Northwestern basketball fan calling the NIT a joke. But I guess that goes back to my expectations being more realistic than everyone else. I half agree with you. Yes, expectations are out of whack. We can't really expect to be OSU over night. But I also don't think it's wrong to expect a bowl game every year, even if history says that's an unlikely goal. It's 6 f***ing wins. You're guaranteed 3 a year playing crap opponents. How hard is it really to go 3-6 the rest of the way? There really is no excuse for any Big Ten program not to be a bowl eligible team almost every year.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 04:26 PM) Like who? Rick? Carl? Daryl? Maggie? Glenn? Carol? Michonne? Beth? Tyreese? Sasha? TDog? Dale? I can see Lori and Andrea having been over-the-top dumb and the Governor was nutso, but that's about it. All of them? They make moronic decisions that no reasonable person would make in a given situation. Rick especially. It's obviously fiction and all that, but it's still really annoying when everyone watching says don't do X but they do it anyway.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 08:22 PM) Horrendous loss. Poor coaching by Groce down the stretch tonight after making great adjustments at halftime. Nice that the refs let GT's big men travel every time they touched the ball tonight including on Miller's go ahead shot. Tracy Abrams is incredibly disappointing, he has been terrible all year. yeah thats gonna hurt come march. gt is terrible.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) I am very interested to see where Shameless goes from last seasons finale. They very easily could have closed up shop right there and left that ambiguous ending. Im hoping that it doesnt end up that they should have stopped it right there. It still irks me that the writers were like, yeah, Jimmy's dead....unless we decide he's not!

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 3, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) He's one of the few character's I could somehow connect with. I liked his moral center and calming demeanor. He seemed like someone I'd really like to know in real life. Most of the other characters are a bunch of assholes, pardon my french. Agreed. He was probably the only realistic character on the show (assuming you can ignore that being a vet is the same as being a doctor). His actions and comments were what a real person would say in a given situation. Pretty much everyone else on the show is just laughably over the top and not very believable.
  24. Jenksismyhero replied to knightni's topic in SLaM
Would he really be that hard to replace though? What does he give you besides a scowl and some action scenes?
  25. I believe it's the board of trustees not giving two s***s about the football program. It's never been a priority there. Really though it comes down to piss poor coaching selection. You had two good hires in White and Mackovic. Tepper was the Lovie Smith of the program - a great defensive mind that could never get the offense going. Turner was the opposite as his offenses flourished but it was never enough to win. And unfortunately he forgot you had to recruit every year to win. Zook was brought in to recruit but he couldn't coach or develop guys. And now Beckman, who can't do anything well, but admittedly has a stacked deck to play with. I also blame Guenther. He made mistake after mistake in his hiring and then compounded the problem by waiting too long to get rid of his bad decisions.
