  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 09:10 AM) I don't disagree with any of this. I just think it's wrong to portray Martin as a sweet, innocent angel in this situation. It's unfortunate, but he was a big kid who was kicking the s*** out of George Zimmerman that night. He was a 12 year old eating skittles and skipping home. Get your facts straight!
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 08:38 AM) Yeah, that was a disgusting call...I understand why the "uncatchable" nuance exists. It's frustrating when you see a ticky tack PI call when the ball is launched 25 yards out of bounds. When the ball is thrown into the middle of the field, no less the middle of the end zone, I have to call bs on the uncatchable call. More succinctly to your point, Wite, is the call where they call holding away from the ball on an entirely different defender guarding a different receiver from where the ball was thrown. Total nonsense. With the spirit of the rule in mind, why should the officials have bailed out Brady and the Patriots for an awful throw? This isn't a ball that lands 5 yards short and is arguably catchable, it was intercepted 7-8 yards in front of the receiver. He had no hope of catching that ball.
  3. Yikes. Though there is this: I'd imagine a judge knows sentencing laws better than AL.com. If those were really his choices then I can't blame him. 20 years without parole is pretty harsh. But if that's the case, change the law. Community service/probation is pretty terrible.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2013 -> 08:36 AM) But thankfully one of them had a gun, so we know the other one must have been at fault. Didn't we find out last time with his crazy ex-wife that it was all made up and didn't happen? Why don't we, ya know, assume innocence before finding the guy guilty based on media reports?
  5. I know there's still a store open across from the Daley Center in the temple building. I just wonder how much this stuff really appreciates in value over time. I'll probably just throw it in a safe and give it to my kid(s) one day.
  6. Random question - anyone collect coins or stamps? I was at a fundraiser a couple of weeks ago and ended up winning an assortment of coins and stamps. They're supposedly valued at about $1,000 (for a $40 donation...not bad!). Anyways, one of the stamps in particular was valued at $400 bucks. Some used 1920's stamp from a zeppelin flight or something. I have no idea where to go to (1) get an idea of what this stuff is worth, (2) whether it's worth holding on to, and if not (3) where to sell them.

I'm still one behind (didn't watch last nights) but i'm sooooo glad they've stayed away from Brody. Obviously they're going to circle back there, and we got a one episode peek into what he's doing, but that was enough. I enjoyed Saul's big F you move on the senator last week.

QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 01:17 PM) ESPN is getting into the act as well. Their special is about the Dallas Cowboys and how they were afraid to play the following weeks. America hated all things Dallas. I understand the players drew straws to see who would run out first, some expected that one or more players would be killed. Wow that's crazy.
  9. My wife and I signed up for our 2014 plan. Premiums up about 10% (went up 1% from 2012-2013), with no real explanation why. They got rid of the "catastrophic" plan and rebranded it as a health savings account plan. Under that you get routine, basic care covered 100% and for the rest you have a higher deductible. The advantage is that you can contribute tax free money into an account and the employer matches it up to a certain amount annually. The account itself can earn interest and rolls over year to year, so the money just sits there in the account until you use it. This would be an amazing idea if it didn't require you to spend the money on health care. It's basically a 401(k) plan that covers you for major needs, but otherwise provides basic care the majority of people would actually use. In the event you get hurt badly, you should have a decent nest egg saved up in the account to take care of it. If not, and you stay relatively healthy until 65, you could just keep that money for retirement. But it looks like you have to eventually use that money for medical care or potentially lose it.

CBS Sunday Morning had a decent piece on the JFK assassination and how the media, including CBS, covered the investigation and conspiracies over time. They interviewed Stone and Buglosi and got their thoughts too. Stone is still convinced that it was an inside job done by the CIA. Buglosi is convinced the Warren Report was correct. Obviously it's not a review of all of the evidence in a 1500 page report, but I thought Buglosi's best argument was that we're 50 years into the future and no one has come out on their deathbeds or whatever admitting to it. Similar to the 9/11 conspiracy, it's impossible for that many people involved to keep quiet. I could just never get into all the JFK stuff. I'm too young I think. I just don't care enough, even if it is a major historical event. Also, for the record, I think Jackie O was very unattractive, even in her "prime."

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 12:41 PM) It will be interesting how it plays out as the Govenor as the villain to Rick land has already played out. Maybe Carol comes into play. I thought the episode itself was intriguing but was one of those episodes that Lost made famous as it was needed to set up a future story arc. Carol gets revenge on Rick. That's a story line I could get into.
  12. QUOTE (scs787 @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 11:57 AM) Sigh...Has anyone here dealt with racoons in the attic? I dealt with many raccoons in our barn when I was growing up. A .22 solves the problem. Though probably not a good idea if you live in the city.

I'm glad they went for some back story with the Governor, but that was still a pretty boring hour.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 18, 2013 -> 10:52 AM) Of course...the problem is we were never able to develop that franchise qb before...I wouldn't be opposed to trying it...but with our luck, we'd sign McCown and let Cutler walk, and then Josh would get hurt in week 2 and we'd have this young guy starting. Yep, that's why you gotta franchise him and then draft a QB and try to mold him. If Cutler is amazing next year, pay him and you've hopefully got a decent back-up with the pick. If not, get rid of him, and have McCown and the Bears future QB waiting in the wings.
  15. why are they not stopping the clock??
  16. Kaboom. Nice statement game so far.
  17. Rumors (on the message boards) that Cliffs parents told Illinois coaches he was coming to Illinois. Hard to believe that's true, but if so, wow.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 03:49 PM) Cliff not signing LOI until Nov 20 for some reason. Not 18 yet i think is the explanation.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) Its either the worst or the best. There is no in between. Lol, I dunno. I would have been happy if the commits we had as of yesterday signed and Cliff went to Kansas.
  20. One thing is for sure, i'm not getting wrapped up in the recruiting hype ever again. Spent most of the day not doing any work and checking Twitter every 5 seconds for nothing.
  21. Cliff also said Lyle will be joining him.
  22. Matt Wettersten ‏@WCIA3Matt 17s Cliff said he made up his mind last night...and in regards to the pump fake - he said it was his teammates idea.
  23. BTW, I know hope that Self pulls a Self and Kansas loses next year in the first round despite having a good team.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 03:26 PM) Tennesse State, UIC Embarrassing, but every program has embarassing losses. In 5 hours we went from being in contention again for a conference title/deep tourney run to still being a middle of the pack Big Ten team.
