QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 27, 2011 -> 06:05 PM) This game was decided in the first half when Martz decided to pass instead of run at the 7. Lol or the three terrible interceptions. Managing the game would have worked. Hanie lost this one.

I think that was a successful trip for Illinois. Both Richmond and ISU are contenders to win their respective conferences. Could end up being two quality wins at the end of the year.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Nov 23, 2011 -> 09:06 AM) 7.1, to work properly, requires a VERY VERY big room. Without enough space between the speakers, you lose the ability to decipher where it's coming from. I don't know that I agree with this. I have a 7.1 setup and tuned right, with the right speakers, you can here the difference. I've got my set up in my basement, so there's some space, but you don't need some gigantic theater-like room to hear the difference.

So has anyone seen this black friday deal on amazon.com where you can buy any new phone (except iphones) for a penny if you sign up for a new two year contract? I'm really debating this, but i'm not sure how it works using Amazon to sign a new contract. I want to keep my same phone number, I want to take advantage of a corporate discount, etc etc. Anyone know how that works with an online retailer?

7.1 is like 3d movies at this point. The technology is there, but unfortunately there are very few movies that you can buy for the set up. I bet there's actually less 7.1 movies than 3d movies, though obviously that's eventually where movies are going.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 11:53 PM) +1 I'd like to add a few more >>>>'s too. While I appreciate their contributions and all...I've never been so happy to see a class leave in my life! Agreed. This team isn't very good, but they're young. Hopefully Abrams can learn the PG position since Sam is basically the only guy that can run the "offense." Though at this point there is no offense. Get the ball to Leonard or iso a guy and try to find an open shooter is the only offense they ran. Still, I think at the end of the year that'll end up being a quality win. Richmond's list of wins against top D1 schools the last 2 years is pretty impressive, and they really never threatened to take that game last night. Seems like that was the kind of game that previous Illinois teams would lose (see Univ of Chicago last year).

Ugh, Illinois is just not good. Where the f*** is Brandon Paul? What a waste. He should just dominate these games and he's a no show on the bench.

This is a very strange venue in Cancun. Looks like a gigantic conference room at a hotel. Edit: ha, nevermind. That's exactly what it is. Weird.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 04:33 PM) ZachZaidman Zach Zaidman ChicagoBears.com, team's official website: "Some veteran will be signed most likely on Wednesday, but it won’t be Favre, Warner or Bulger." If Warner could stand in the pocket I would take him immediately. Probably too old and out of shape though.

2011 TV Thread
I'd rank the characters as follows: Not terrible, but not good...basically they just don't bother me which is the best compliment I can give: Farmers' daughter - willingness to do the dirty in the midst of zombie apocalypse = +100 pts Asian dude - the only somewhat likeable guy Daryl - the bad ass Everyone else from the farm house - don't see enough of them so basically no opinion. Need to be eaten by a zombie and forgotten about ASAP: T-Dogg - worthless The son - even his Jesus-like resurrection powers doesn't overcome how annoying he is Dale - nosy old man that cares for Andrea way too much Rick - too serious and just plain dumb Andrea - annoying, dumb, worthless Shane - ditto, even the "bad assness" doesn't save him. Also terrible actor. Whiny wife - I just watched The Road for the first time this weekend. She needs to be one of those people that are locked in a cellar and slowly eaten by cannibals (a.k.a zombies). New and more interesting storyline: Herschel goes off the deep end and takes Whiny Wife as captive. Rick doesn't care because she's a whore (and also annoying...the recent talk has opened his eyes to this glaring personality flaw). Shane doesn't care because he and Andrea are doing it on the hood of a car while shooting incoming walkers. Otis' wife breaks Whiny Wife's legs and slowly feeds her body, piece by piece, to the zombies stuck in the barn. No one else cares because she sucks.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 12:12 PM) Actually, like the NBA lockout, neither party has the American people behind them. The fans / people are 90% of the mind they are both being stupid. I bet if you polled people and asked would you want drastic spending cuts or a mix of tax/fee increases and smaller cuts, the vast majority would go with option 1. Might not like how the owners/republicans are going about it, but the end result is what they agree with.

Republican 2012 Nomination Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 10:28 AM) yup. I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with that: I don't know how you can accuse the Democrats of failing when success was impossible unless they simply gave in to every Republican demand. And I'll highlight that the Republicans were adamant on making an 11-figure hole in the budget permanent, belying any notion that they're actually serious about deficit reduction. I don't have a problem with the Republican's stance against any new revenues. Though to be fair, i'm not sure what the Democrats proposed. If its a "new revenue" in terms of simply rolling back some of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, I'm fine with that and agree that they need to be rolled back. If it's some more bulls*** "we're not raising taxes just fees and costs for EVERYTHING just so we can continue to spend money," then no. This whole fight is very similar to the NBA lockout. The owners are the Republicans who are trying to change the system. They have the leverage (the American people are behind them) and know it, so they're going to fight for the best deal for them going forward. At the end of the day a 10% cut across the board is probably going to sit well for the vast majority of voters. The players/union are the Democrats who are agreeable to some slight changes to the system, but only on their terms. They want to have their cake (we provide) and eat it too (at no cost!)

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) His reign clearly won't last long. I know they won't do it, but I'd love to see Manny kill him. Jimmy has turned into a real douche about the money he owes to Manny, among other things. Yeah I didn't/still don't understand that. Is 5k really that much money? Jimmy begged him for business days/weeks before, and now he's so upset and annoyed about being asked about it that he puts a hit on him? Ehhhh. Also re the Walking Dead, a must read after each show: http://videogum.com/419182/the-walking-dea...nked/tv/recaps/

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 10:24 AM) Having little screen time, Manny Horvitz is already the best character on that show. Yep, agree. I can't wait to see what his response is going to be. I liked the scene with Jimmy at the fight too. He's starting to get paranoid. Tough to be the new king in town.

2011 TV Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 09:41 AM) Also, why are we feeding the zombies chicken? We've seen no evidence so far that the zombies just die for good if they don't have living flesh to eat. I also wondered about this. It's this s*** that really holds the show back. It's like the writers are so geeked to write about Rick and his wife crying to each other that they forget about the "rules" of a zombie apocalypse and assume the audience will just gloss over it. "Feeding them chickens? Oh yeah, that makes sense. Make sure to break their legs too so they can't flop around. God knows in this show zombies move at a snails pace and NEVER grab at something quickly in an attempt to eat them."

2011 TV Thread
QUOTE (Felix @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) It's soooooooooooooooooo boringgggggggggggggggggggggggg +1. The main problem is that just about every character sucks incredibly hard. There is no development. Development would mean that we're getting to see more out of a character, not the same f***ing thing over and over and over again. I'm at the point where 3/4's of this group should be eaten by walkers so I don't have to listen to them whine anymore. Rick's wife? Not since Kate from Lost have I hated a character as much. Any scene she's in I automatically tune out. Any scene she's in with Rick and I want to throw my controller through the TV. Maybe if they didn't devote 15 minutes of every show since about episode 3 (whenever they reunited) to the "omg is he going to find out! omg life sucks/is so hard right now!" conversation, some of these important conversations would be interesting. All I hear is "whine whine whine whine whine whine, over-act, over-act, over-act." It's too bad she didn't choke to death on some of those morning after pills. The whole barn thing really annoyed me too. Is that the best way to reveal that? Have Dale go in all chest pumped out talking about how dumb it is for Herschel to keep all those non-humans in there. Oh what's that? You have family in there? Oh gawd. I'm so sorry. I didn't....I didn't know. WHAT?! What the f*** did you think he was doing? Rounding up zombies for the fun of it? Ugh. I'm ready for a new set piece. For the love of God can we please move to a different town. Do SOMETHING different. Funny that the whole goal here was to get to that Fort Benning or wherever, but in this episode they actually debated having to leave. What? Why? Also, day 5-6 (at least) of Sophia missing. They just gonna drag that out all season? The longer this goes the more implausible it gets (kinda like Shane/Andrea getting a "lead" on a house she might be in....which is one of MANY houses in a subdivision. WHAT THE f***, HOW DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE?)

2011 Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Nov 22, 2011 -> 08:24 AM) Sure, it can be done; it's just far inferior. There's a reason no one is trying to get PC players and console players playing together with these games: the PC players would dominate every time. You simply can't aim with a joystick like you can with a mouse. That's my biggest issue. Shooting a bow and arrow sucks with the ps3 controller. It takes forever to line up your target JUST right. With a mouse and controller it takes no time at all. 1000000000 times more accurate.

Hopefully about 10 people buy tickets and the players realize they better accept the owners' deal and start playing some f***ing basketball.

QUOTE (Felix @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) I know some people that bought it for PC and are using a controller. f*** that though, mouse + keyboard >>>>> controller. Oh I agree. Unfortunately the $800+ for a computer good enough to run it versus $60 just to buy the game for PS3 was a tough sell for the wife.

2011 Video Game Catch-All Thread
A bit of advice on Skyrim: Do NOT go into the Temple of Xrib. You find it as a "sightless pit" ...and it is a pit. You can't exit the damned thing without fighting your way through to the other side. As a lower level guy (level 8-9) I went into it and spent HOURS fighting my way out. That sucked, a lot. I almost threw my controller through the TV since my previous save was over 6 hours of game time in the past. Not sure why they can't fix the damned save system. Why do I have to waste 10 seconds every 10 minutes to save? Why not just do it automatically?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 21, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) Where's jenksismyb**** to call him a Hall of Famer, already? Bah. 3rd most accurate kicker of all time, in Chicago, is f***ing impressive. If he keeps it up for another 6-7 years there's no reason Gould shouldn't be a candidate. Thought that was an interesting presser by Lovie. Are the Bears just trying to keep the fanbase hopeful that Jay will return? Or do they really think it'll only be 5-6 weeks at most? Odd that they didn't give much detail about where the fracture is/what kind of surgery he's going to need.
