Chicago City Budget
I would hope not, that's the best part. What kind of stripper are we talking about here? Dirty girl from the middle-of-nowhere strip joint, or lame city gotta-wear-pasties strip joint?

Chicago City Budget
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) This past weekend I went out with a stripper (ok, you're probably thinking WTF there must be a long story involved - the answer is yes, there is) and she introduces me to a friend at the bar, also a stripper but both dressed normally since they weren't at work. Stripper #2 is really friendly. Stripper #1 leans over to me and says "yeah, she is really cool and a sweetheart, but don't drink anything after her." lol. Don't gotta tell me twice. She texts me at the table and says rumor has it she has HIV. I know you can't really get HIV from drinking out of the same cup as someone (at least I'm pretty sure that's how I remember), but still... yeesh. I'm listening.....

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) Her explanation is that the rest of the video was a discussion of how she overcame her own initial prejudice in the case. "I was just trying to make a joke!" - Michael Richards

Yeah, GMAFB. Imagine if this was a white worker saying that stuff about a black family. Balta I'm sure you'd be all over the defense of that white worker right?

Blago Trial
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 09:00 AM) Seriously? The motion was denied. really grasping at straws there. i've slowed down a bit on paying attention to the trial, but apparently Robert Blago has been really good on the stand, distancing himself from his brother as much as possible.

Texas Republicans: Missionary or Else
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) Without the popular wave though, it's a handful of Ron Paul supporters yelling about the gold standard...it's the activist libertarian wing making noise just like the activist left did during the Clinton/Bush years. Yeah, but there was action by the Obama admn to make it more popular - the gigantic stimulus no one wanted to pay for and the overhaul of healthcare to a form most people don't like. And really at the rallies I've been to, they don't really differentiate between Repubs and Dems. Yeah, the people that attend are probably 80% Repubs, but the message is anti-Washington (Congress specifically), not necessarily anti one particular party. Hate them all you want, and continue to believe that the "Obama is a Nazi" faction is a part of the "movement," but they're really not. They're the extreme fringe that shows up. The discussions and lectures are very much in line with 1980's conservative thinking. It's not exactly radical - government is getting too big and needs to get out of my life. I'm guessing most tea partiers didn't care for the way Bush increased the size of government either.

NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 07:48 AM) James Jones (F) was offered the MLE ($6 million) by the Spurs. He's turning it down and taking the veterans minimum ($1.5 million) to play for the Heat. The Heat are also expected to sign Carlos Arroyo and Jamaal Magloire. Yeah, backups are turning down $4.5 million to play for this team. It's going to be so hard for them to fill out their roster. What will they ever do. WTF is James Jones? I'm not the biggest NBA fanatic out there, but I watch my fair share and pay attention to the league. Never heard of that guy before. No one was arguing they couldn't fill out the roster. I think i've said it before, but it's QUALITY reserves that people seem to think they'd miss out on. Is this guy a quality reserve (I honestly have no idea)?

America's Infrastructure
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) it's not that, it's the attitude that dominates springfield that downstate politicians throw hissy fits that their constituents have to pay for the citys rails, when people in the city also pay for the roads down south that maybe %10 of the amount of people are served than are with urban public transport. why isn't that a valid concern? People downstate pay for their roads and the rails up here with their tax dollars, but only use the roads. People here pay the same, but use both. They're paying for something that they never use. I get that you can't have a tax system that covers ONLY what each person uses, but when you add in the corrupt political machine up here, plus the waste of money this city goes through, I can relate to their anger about having to cover those costs.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) When you have three first round picks in consecutive years, three of which came in the top-6, you're supposed to wind up with more than Johnny Flynn, Wes Johnson, Lazar Heyward and Martell Webster. With that many picks they were going to add young assets regardless, but he could have managed them far better. He took three point guards in 2009 and so far all he has to show for it is Johnny Flynn. Their best or second best asset right now is still playing in Barcelona because he wasn't happy with playing in Minnesota and/or splitting time with Flynn. Curry, Lawson and Jennings all had far better rookie seasons than Flynn, who many seem to think is destined to be a backup PG. Their best player by a wide margin is still Kevin Love, who was already on the roster. Picking up Michael Beasley was a nice move, but he's largely blocked by Love and the SF trio of Brewer/Webster/Johnson. They still don't have a legitimate starting center, an above average point guard, or a solid shooting guard (Brewer looks like a far better fit at SF). The only position they're DEFINITELY set at is PF, where he inherited two solid options already. Really, I don't see how you can say he's made any progress. They're younger, but anyone can get younger. The problem is they still stink. I'd rather have a crappy team of young players than a crappy team of old players (though I agree he's made that team better, despite the Rubio situation)

where are you driving on I-55 that's so bad? I commute from La Grange every day and it's rarely more than 35 min to my office in the middle of the loop. Kinda sucks between Harlem and Kedzie, but otherwise it's a breeze.

Ugh. These people need to be taken out back and dealt with Old Yeller style. Or come up with a new party name. They are NOT Republicans. They're ass-backwards retards. (please no one say, "there is! They're the Tea Party.")

Financial News
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 05:41 PM) You do realize that Medicare pays for itself right? Cutting it doesn't change the deficit one bit. Just leaves a lot of elderly people bankrupt. Will give you props on the defense spending note, because really, that's the only thing worth noting in discretionary spending. cutting medicare funding or scaling it back means more tax dollars can be spent on deficit reduction.
-
Financial News
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) So, you'd argue that deficit spending is ok in times of economic expansion and a bad thing in times of economic contraction. Yeah, I'd say that's a pretty good explanation for the policies that got us to 10% unemployment. I'd argue not doing it at all actually. Cut half the bulls*** spending the government does and the deficit would take care of itself (including social services, medicare, defense spending).

Financial News
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) So, you're willing to agree that government deficit spending is expansionary? It can be. But I wouldn't/don't feel comfortable doing it when we don't really have a stable economy and 10-12% unemployment. We could just be digging our hole even deeper.

Financial News
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) Nope, those were the quoted 10 year values of the 2001 and 2003 tax cut packages. That could have knocked the deficit down by more than 2x the value of the 2010 Stimulus package. and neither offered ANY economic benefit?

Financial News
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) And, as always, $750 billion > $1.3 trillion + $600 million. I assume those are war totals? Which were over 10 years of time, and which were spent during one of the highest economic times we've had? Yeah, kinda the same. Both are/were waste IMO, btw.

NBA Offseason Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 08:59 AM) Well, the obvious retort is that Cleveland was better last year with him off the court than on it. He's a big slow lumbering guy who can occasionally rebound and score. The 2 potential benefits of having him are...having Dwight Howard have to go against him in the playoffs and having him against the Size depleted Heat. The downside though is that any time he's in there, he slows you down and clogs up the lane. On the team the Bulls fielded from 06-08, where everything was on the perimeter and based on ball movement, this old Shaq might still have been useful because no one was going into the lane and thus it wouldn't hurt us to clog it. But now, with Boozer there as a scorer, with Noah there as an athletic defender/rebounder, with Gibson as a lesser version of Noah, and most importantly, with our key player being a slasher who ought to be pushing into the lane as often as he can...I think it hurts us m ore than it helps. Yeah, good points. It's too bad he was such a "me" guy. With his experience he could have been one of those aging veterans you get for the locker room to guide guys like Rose.
