  1. Unless you think like a democrat. Zing! I'm here all day.
  2. I'm a grass man all the way. The condition of it might suck, so pay someone who knows what they're doing to maintain it. I hate the field turf in every stadium i've been to. I like the authentic feel of using actual ground versus the fake stuff.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 11:13 AM) The reason why this is the court's place is that our system is founded on the idea of majority rule...but with minority rights that can't be trampled just because the majority wants to. If I wanted to name a team the "Homo-bashers" or something like that, then I might never get a homosexual to come to one of my games. But that's just a minority. If I lose 25% of the country, I can still market to 75%. That doesn't mean that the other 25% should just shut up and take it. I guess I don't agree with either statement here. The minority certainly rules this country. Not putting my own opinions here, but the majority are happy and fine with their healthcare, but the minority wants to change it. The majority are against gay marriage, but the minority wants it. The majority of people don't want to spend trillions on defeating global warming, but the minority wants it, the majority of people are religious and don't care that religion is a public thing, but the minority doesn't want it, etc. And at this point I believe that a team like "home-bashers" would never fly because the majority of people think its offensive and unprofessional, despite their view on homosexuality in general. Edit: And really the Court shouldn't be in the business of this anyway. I mean, the Constitution was aimed at Federal and State actions, not private actions. If a franchise wants to be the homo-bashers, they should be able to. But now that these organizations have gotten so big, at some point, they've been linked to state/federal action.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) Michigan could be better than Ohio State this year. Lol, that was meant to be in green right?
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) Weis cost them that game. Didn't help that we lost Allen and didn't have him available for the last couple plays and lost our stud f***ing WR. Tate really hurt them with some costly drops too. But that isn't an easy game. Michigan is a top 25 team and so is ND. Based on what exactly? Playing a close game against another mediocre team? If Michigan wins more than 4 games in the Big Ten I'll be impressed. Edit: Check that. If they win 3 games i'll be impressed. Indiana and Purdue are the only winnable games IMO. Penn State and Ohio State absolutely no chance. @ Mich St, @ Iowa, @ Wisky and @ Illinois not much of a chance.
  6. QUOTE (The Bones @ Sep 12, 2009 -> 07:04 PM) Then how can Michigan be overrated when they just upset a top 25 ND team? Especially when Michigan wasn't expected to do much other than just get to a bowl game this year. Neither team was very impressive. Neither team is a top 25 team. And way to coach em up Weis. How many penalties took points off the board today?
  7. if it looks like a duck and walks like a duck...
  8. wtf could possibly happen that would require this? Some rogue terrorist group sending out massive amounts of tweets?
  9. QUOTE (Crash73 @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 10:05 PM) A man, a patriot, recently dies, and you damn republicans can not just post your respect. He loved this country every bit as much as you. Yep. He also loved drinking, driving, and leaving the scene of a murder. But like Michael Jackson, lets forget about the horrible things, and concentrate on his music....
  10. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) The NCAA checks with tribes and they say this is offensive, this is not; then acts on those recommendations. Seems pretty easy and not hypocritical to me. They even left it open for the Tribes to approve. The NCAA acts because they have legislative power over the teams. So not in their omnipotent wisdom, in the Tribes. The NCAA thought process: Fan base and money >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> political correctness
  11. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 11:14 AM) So was the Chief Sioux or a confederation? How can one tribe approve a confederation and how can a confederation be an authentic depiction? The Chief is simply a symbol of the Indians who lived in Illinois. Since none of those tribes exist anymore, there can be no approval. But the University got approval from the closest ethnic group they could find. What more can they do? If we're giving weight to the "offended" Indians who are not related in anyway to the Illiniwek tribes, than why not give weight to other similar individuals that support it? Look, it would be one thing if some white college kid painted himself red, threw on a piece of cloth around his crotch and a feather in his hair and ran around the field with war axes screaming at the top of his lungs. But that's not what happened here.
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 10:57 AM) The double standard is authentic and Tribe approved = good Fake and Tribe not approved = bad What's "fake" about it? Illinois was a confederation of Illinois tribes and the Chief is a symbol of that. And the Chief was "approved" by the Sioux many times throughout the Chief's existence, providing the U of I with authentic headresses and dances. I fail to see how this difference matters on the "offensiveness" scale, which is the reason fire spear throwing traditions are ok, but a dance is not. Edit: Sorry, "Illiniwek" was the confederation name.
  13. The Chief no longer performing is a travesty IMO. What better way to completely erase the memory of Illinois Indian tribes than to get rid of the most public image of them. The idea was started in the 20's to honor the people that provided the name of the state. Original, authentic headdresses have always been used (save for the first year), and the dance is based off of the dances of many Indian tribes. The guilt of a vocal minority decided it was best if the Chief was no longer around. You can tell what a horrible, corruptible tradition this was for the last 90 years. Just look at all of the people that saw the Chief perform. What terrible human beings they became. GMAFB. I'm in total agreement with the double standard at play here. Illinois = ok money, FSU = good money. That's the only reason it happened.
  14. partially employed/partially self-employed civil litigation and corporate/real estate/estate planning attorney
  15. 27.... which has to be the worst. It's like, you're still in the 20's, so you feel young, but you're close to 30, and feel old. Sigh... I swear from 18-22 it felt like 20 years of time passed, and 23-27 it felt like 2 days.
  16. Total underachievers. We'd be 15+ games over .500 if we didn't make the dumbest of dumb mistakes at the end of games. Cut the errors, the blown leads, and the overall lackluster play and we're 5-6 games ahead in this division. That said, there's no reason we can't blow this thing open. Hard schedule or not, we're better than the Tigers, we just aren't playing like it.
  17. Two thoughts on the 60 minute interview: (1) Everyone thinks James Brown did a great job interviewing Vick. I thought he sucked. He asked the same question 2-3 times, despite the fact that he already got the answer. ("So, when did you know that it was wrong?" "When I was lying in a jail cell alone..." "And when did you realize what you did was wrong." "Uh, when I was in a jail cell, alone...") (2) The fact that Vick rediscovered religion, allowing him to see the light of what he did. I think what Vick did was inexcusable and despicable, and I'm glad he was served with a serious punishment. I think it's laughable if anyone actually believes that he's remorseful about it. It's an entire culture he's grown up with since he was young that apparently he's forgotten and changed his mind about. That's like saying a serial killer gets busted and then finds out in jail that murder is wrong. It doesn't happen like that. He's sorry for putting his family, the Falcons/ownership, the NFL, etc etc in this situation, but I HIGHLY doubt he feels any remorse for electrocuting dogs and holding them underwater. He's upset he got caught and then lied about it. End of story. I'm all for second chances, and I'm all for people booing the hell out of him. If this were any other person their life would be ruined for this (federal criminal record = no job for the rest of your life). But he gets 2 million guaranteed and a possibility of making up to 7, if not more after 2 years. Hopefully the Humane Society and the NFL forces him to do the things he's promised to do, and hopefully his "sacrifice" will save lots and lots of animals. But I won't hold my breath.
  18. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 09:42 AM) This looks pretty cool. That's a bad ass trailer.
  19. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) I also think it's somewhat of a disservice to have a well-educated African-American man talk hip, street lingo to the audience. "ah no you di-int!" "boo-yah!" ESPN is absolute garbage. My favorite experience recently involved watching the two sportscenter anchors complain about Favre coverage, only to throw it to TWO frickin ESPN "reporters" camped out at Favre's home for the latest "news." 20 minutes later we learned absolutely nothing, except that Rachel Nichols talked to someone, and is completely unattractive.
  20. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 08:35 PM) Ramirez takes walks, he is not Uribe. Ramirez is 4th on the team in walks. Swinging for the fences? Nix hits a HR every 18 ABs and Ramirez hits one every 33 ABs. Are you sure you don't have your logic reversed? Nix is a very solid Utility player, but I would rather have Ramirez in the lineup. With Quentin getting back into shape and Getz heating up, the lineup is looking really solid from top to bottom. I guess it's just the eye test. To me Nix' approach is better. I don't see him swinging at balls in the dirt. I'm not saying he's the next Pete Rose, but to me he's making things happen, more so than Alexei, who I always pray doesn't kill a promising inning.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 08:16 PM) Crazy. lol, damn. Thought so.
  22. I prefer Nix out there. He actually takes a ball (gasp! sometimes more than one per at bat, gasp!), he doesn't swing the for fences every time (gasp!) and with Getz and Pods we have a team that can run, run, run. We lose Alexei's crazy strong arm at SS, but I don't think Nix makes the X number of errors Alexei is going to make, so to me, that's a wash. What say you?
  23. GREAT deal KW, even he's worthless for us this year. An ace locked up through 2012. Can trade him with a partial no-trade starting in 2010. MUCH better than Holiday for 1.5 years.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 10:24 AM) This was done a year or two ago - the EPA was critized by consumers for setting MPG numbers based on unrealistically conservative driving tests. They adjusted the tests, which was a good thing, because almost no one was getting the EPA estimated mileage from their cars before that adjustment. And this has a good side effect here too, with the CARS program. The new cars have more realistic numbers, so as long as buyers are getting one with better MPG numbers, you actually gain a few extra clicks in MPG in the transfers. They did it Friday, right before the program started: http://www.freep.com/article/20090727/BUSINESS01/90727084/
