QUOTE (whitesoxwinner @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 04:26 PM) For right now it's all we have, unfortunately. Anybody else think about how boring it's gonna be when we suck and there's no one left to trade? Theres always someone to trade. After this round of trades we will have Rodon, Abreu, Avi, Sanchez, Jones, and whoever takes over at closer to talk about in the winter.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 02:55 PM) Would the cubs give up he, Schwarber or Happ and Jimenez for Quintana? No

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 01:56 PM) As you can see with the stats of our Charlotte starters the last few years, it's not a great place to pitch. I think Fulmer can put similar stats in the MLB. You can at least allow Coop to work with him and get a fresh start. If he sucks you learn more about him and help the rebuild, if he's better that's progress. I want Giolito to continue his progress and Lopez is ready but you might as well wait. With Burdi struggling, I kind of wonder if Fulmer may be first in line for saves when/if Robertson and Kahnle are dealt. If he could assert himself in that role over the second half he could be a valuable chip in the winter similar to Giles for the Phils.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 01:49 PM) Maybe AAA was off a few days and AA wasn't? I really don't know. I'm just guessing here. That makes sense, and AA oddly enough doesn't have their starters posted for today. I would imagine Gonzalez pitches today and is ready to come back in the rotation next week. I think people are overthinking lining up the rotation, if Q is traded they can just bump up Pelfrey or Rodon to start on normal rest and fill in the gap the next time through the rotation especially with two off days next week.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) Also, I am going to be very interested to see who in Charlotte is mirroring Q. It almost has to be either Giolito or Lopez. I think its more likely that Miguel Gonzalez comes off the DL to fill the spot. He has started his rehab assignment and I am sure Hahn wants to get him some starts to see if he can move him by the deadline.
-
I feel that if something wasn't up, Q would be starting on Friday to get him in out on regular rest and get scouts another look at him.
-
Usually I would have an issue with this approach, but since Robert had been out of baseball for an extended duration, it makes sense that he is eased back into things and is able to build some success. I would like to see him in the US in time for instructs in the fall, but I am not sure how that affects his agreement on tax shielding. As long as he is not driving, there is no real issue with him staying in the DSL.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 10:03 AM) He has a point. We have heard it all before. Hahn may be lying, but he has said before nothing was anywhere near close with Q. You wouldn't have concluded that with the previous rumors, the exact same kind of rumors we see now. This could be more BS. I think he is like many like me who are at the point of I believe it when I see it. Eventually it will happen. Maybe today. Maybe in the next couple of weeks. Maybe next winter. Maybe in 2020. Yeah, the way that this seems to be coming from only people with White Sox connections, and Hahn is notoriously stealthy, I think the odds are this is posturing to drive the market to flinch and give in to Hahns demands. I believe that Hahn had a lot of conversations with guys the last couple of days and so they all know he is pushing to get a deal done. I think Q is almost certainly traded before Monday at this point, but I really don't believe something is imminent. I think the Brewers are an unlikely trading partner and they are being floated out there to put pressure on the other teams in contention in the NL.
-
QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 04:42 PM) Tin foil hat time, but maybe Hahn is trying to use the unwritten rule of not overshadowing the all star game to leverage teams by saying we are looking to get this done soon and then putting out all these rumors and telling teams that one team popped and is offering what were asking and that we are going to take it, but are waiting until tomorrow, which gives the other teams time to up their offers. I think it has to do with a lot of the GM's being located in Miami this week, there is a lot of ability to have a lot of conversations with other GM's similar to the setting at the Winter Meetings. This will allow for a deal to get done much quicker as they can actually have some face to face meetings to hash out details.

Is this really news? I think we all know that there is a large likelihood he is traded and that it may be sooner or later than we think.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 09:24 AM) I find Albies so underrated here and it's entirely due to comps. Its mostly due to him being a 2B, and the Sox currently having a pretty deep group of prospects at the position. If Albies had the arm to stick at short, he would be very appealing. But with Yolmer coming into his own and Yoan not far behind, it would make sense to seek a controllable player at a position of higher need. There are no OF prospects in the system that are close to the majors, so depth is a concern there, shortstop is a concern, and probably catcher. Albies looks like a good player, but not sure he really fits here and the Braves are not going to trade him when they have 2B opening up for him at the end of the season when Phillips walks.

Robertson to the Cardinals for Sandy Alcantara, Magneuris Sierra, and Johan Oviedo Q and Melky to the Yankees for Torres, Rutherford, Domingo Acevedo, and Freicer Perez Frazier to the Red Sox for Blake Swihart and Trey Ball Holland to the Astros for Yordan Alvarez Swarzak to the Cubs for Aramis Ademan Kahnle to the Brewers for Trent Clark, Kodi Mederios, and Nathan Kirby

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 11:21 AM) I think they Tigers are in dreamland then. He is a Tigers icon, so I can see them just holding. The guy is coming off a season where he was the runner up for the Cy Young, its not like he has a track record of being a garbage pitcher. He has had a rough start to the season, but much like Q, teams are willing to overlook some poor peripherals when you are playing for a bad team.
-
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) What about the Cardinals? They aren't out of it, and they don't want to rebuild anyway. Q would work well for them. Last I saw, they were waiting to see how they started July to determine whether they are buying or selling. They 5.5 out of first and still have to jump the Cubs to get there. They are 7.5 our of the WC and have to jump the Cubs and Rockies or Dbacks.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 10, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) Yankees deadline approach: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/yank...first-base.html Melky probably makes sense for the Yankees with what is going on with Bird. He gives them OF depth, but can DH everyday and let Holliday play 1B for the rest of the year. It won't be cost prohibitive in terms of prospects, and would provide an upgrade on their current production.

I kind of wonder if some of the Brewers noise is a leak to put pressure on the Cubs to overpay for one of the starters on the market. It helps the Brewers because it weakens the Cubs depth when the Brewers window is open and helps the Sox/A's pull in a larger return.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) OK. I guess he projects to earn decent to good money in free agency since that appears to be what you are saying. The Sox can't just keep him for scraps I guess. You are basically taking a short term asset and investing it in a couple lottery tickets. Odds are you will get nothing out of it, but you might as well take a chance getting something of value out of a guy that is not a part of your long term plans. Sox aren't winning anything this year, so having a guy like Swarzak of Kahnle on the roster in August is superfluous. -
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 05:00 PM) I'll take my chances that a patient hitter like Collins eventually figures things out vs. a player who rarely walks developing plate discipline. Sure, Collins is struggling at the plate, but he is still drawing a ton of walks which is not easy to teach. All he needs is a good hot streak to bring his numbers up to a very respectable level for a catching prospect. The problem is that he still has a pretty high 28% K rate to go along with his 19% BB rate. Having such high rates in both is generally a sign of a guy being too passive at the plate. He is still young, and I think the Sox are more concerned right now with his defensive work to put too much pressure on him to be more aggressive at the plate.

11. Ronald Acuna, OF, Atlanta Braves Why He’ll Succeed: He’s 19 and mashing in Double-A, after mashing in Advanced-A, after mashing in A. The tools back up the performance and he’s closer to the majors than you think. He might end up sacrificing some hit for pop, but he potentially pairs that with a centerfield profile. And it’s significant pop. Why He Might Fail: In five years he has a chance to be 24, and the swing-and-miss might eat up his offensive value while the body forces him to right field. I would say the chances are extremely high.

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jun 29, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) Rizzo is one stubborn SOB refusing to trade for a closer. Crazy after watching meltdown after meltdown At this point, I think it is an ownership issue. Rizzo had a deal in place for Robertson once already and it was shot down. It seems that their payroll is really tight and they don't want to give up the prospects for the Sox to eat money.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 01:11 PM) Speaking of Frazier, the three guys we traded for him are sure struggling. Frank Montas injured severely and somewhere in the Oakland system; Trayce Thompson, injured, but still has decent future; and Micah Johnson, buried somewhere as a non prospect. Johnson is on the 40 man roster of the Braves and has been out all season with a broken wrist he suffered in spring training.

Update from CBS Sports on 6/13: Tilson (foot) could embark on a rehab assignment in late June or early July, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports. Tilson's comeback from a stress reaction in his foot has been long and arduous, but it seems like there's finally a light at the end of the tunnel. He's been participating in intrasquad games at extended spring training, so his rehab stint could be fairly short once he gets to that point. http://icbl.baseball.cbssports.com/players...yerpage/2046464

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 10:04 AM) Catching is universally known as developing slower than the other positions because of all of the extra defensive responsibilities they have such as blocking pitches, calling a game, throwing out baserunners, etc. Plus just the physical grind that catching takes on your body so much more than any other position.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 08:38 PM) Gross. Swihart is toast. OPSing .600 in AAA. I would take a chance on him turning it around. Throw in Owens too, another guy that has fallen by the way side. Two guys that could really benefit from a change of scenery and that could turn it around and turn into valuable players. If not, you get some salary relief and get to work Davidson at 3B everyday. Frazier is not going to bring much at this point, might as well try some guys who have made it to the majors to see if you can fix them rather than rolling the dice on lottery ticket guys.
