I think the Amendment mandating term-limits for Presidents should be repealed. (I've thought this since the Bush and Clinton years) I think hunting for reasons other than food, population control or necessary clothing is stupid. States should be allowed to make their own laws regarding drugs (i.e. marijuana).

QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 09:38 PM) Were going to baptize it in the name of God and Palin? Cuz that would have been cool! Sadly, she may go the way of Dan Quayle. Intelligent, witty, but the media is just killing her. However, now, unlike Quayle's time, being crucified by the media touches on a trigger for the GOP. Very true. She has proven her intelligence and wit by discerning the Real America from the fake America.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) We don't know if Poreda is overrated or not as a starter until he does. If he's not going to start, at least use him more in the pen. It's almost like he's a garbage time arm right now. If he f***s up, put him on a plane out of here!

Many people will say its way too early to speculate about the 2012 GOP Primary because of how low Obama polled about the same time before their primaries. However, it is important to remember that the rule for winning the GOP nomination is that the winner was apart of an earlier Pres. campaign or ran for Pres. unsuccessfully (Reagan, Bush, McCain, Dole, Nixon). So, that means the nominee will be either Romney, Palin or Huckabee. Will 2012 be the exception to several decades of nomination history? Palin enjoys the backing of 71% of Rep. voters who would vote for her if she ran in 2012 (as of Monday). Romney is and has not been anywhwere near as popular among prospective GOP Primary voters as Palin, and Huckabee is essentially a poor man's Palin in terms of the demographics of their supporters.

Nice little article I spotted:

I still think she has the best shot at the 2012 GOP Pres. nomination should she enter the race.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 05:04 PM) For the latter, I SERIOUSLY don't see how resigning helps that AT ALL. The ® in the primary can just hold against her that she hadn't gone more than 2.5 years in to her run as governor, and likely won't last as Sen (2012). Indeed. There is no chance in hell she is going to challenge Murkowski for the Senate. Murkowski is so popular in Alaska that Palin has a better shot at winning the 2012 GOP Pres. primary than winning a 2010 primary against an ultra-popular sitting Senator.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) More and more candidates are trying it. John Edwards comes to mind right away, though most have just not run for re-election. The difference between Edwards and this situation is that Edwards served his full six-year term. I'm not saying one is better than the other just that they are much different scenarios.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) Yes, yes, I see. It's different now that Barackus the Great can take credit for all things well in Iraq. Or something. It's totally different now! Afghanistan and Iraq are totally different. The Taliban controlled the Afghan government and provided shelter, training and money for the 9/11 terrorists. The Iraqi government did not.

The reason I opposed his contract was primarily because of the stat trends at the time. Plus, having his best previous seasons in a pitcher-friendly park. ----->H/9 K/9 HR/9 2004 6.54 8.89 .86 2005 6.72 8.55 .49 2006 8.33 8.09 1.07 2007 8.70 6.40 1.54

QUOTE (Cubano @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) Chavez in Venezuela nationalizing more companies and consolidating power without the fear of the great USA Mariners going after him. Our friends in North Korea acting like crazy. The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad consolidating his powers behind the conservative leaders. The USA enemies understand Obama is weak. He won't send troops anywhere. He will stay in Iraq and Afghanistan because he has no choice. Though the USA can not keep financing wars with Chinese money. As for inflation, you ain't see nothing yet folks. You just saw an increase in oil. Even in the USA, the government does whatever it wants violating the laws. It amazes me how the Indiana or Ohio Pension funds and secure bond holders got screwed in favor of nonsecured and Union folks with the auto companies. I won't buy an USA car unless it is a Ford. Save your pennies now so you can pay your gas later. Do not blame Bush! If you have a problem, call Obama. Ha, ha, ha. Drill, baby drill. Now! Mahmoud Ahmadinejad came to power while Bush was President. Based on your logic, Bush deserves a hell of a lot blame.

Peavy could be sidelined as long as 12 weeks
Chet Lemon replied to RME JICO's topic in The Diamond Club
More importantly, why wasn't he in his beloved Cubs uniform pitching when this happened? -
This is just another PC-lovin' liberal politician that can't take it..uh I mean Letterman should apologize for such an offensive comment that makes it sound like it's OK to talk about young girls in that way! Where it's kind of OK, accepted, and funny to talk about statutory rape.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 08:00 AM) My lord, people. You are seriously trying to disparage the Dems or Reps as a whole, based on the behaviors of various whack-jobs who happen to use one of the extreme ends of the spectrum as an excuse for their violence? Wow. You should have read my post a few pages ago. The political debate in this country has gotten to the point where if you disagree with someone, they are automatically in the 'far-left' or 'far-right.' http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=1919797

I really wish Q was healthy now b/c I would like to see Dye move to 1B if PK is on the DL. Move Q out to RF, BA in CF, Pod in LF.

The H.S. report quoted was "DHS/I&A is concerned that right-wing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize veterans in order to boost their violent capacities." Although they should have clarified what type of veterans may be more prone to extremist recruitment, this was a potential individual that murdered about a month after the report was issued:

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) By the way, I'd like to say again...how dare the Department of Homeland Security suggest that right-wing politically motivated violence/terrorism is a legitimate threat! This is the problem with those "activists" out there that lambasted H.S. for their report. In their minds, everything is broken down into 'left-wing' or 'the far left' (i.e. any democrat not named zell miller, anyone who protested the war, etc) and so they themselves must be the opposite (i.e. right, right-wing). Many of these activists viewed right-wing terrorist groups in the report as a slight against the conservative movement, which is grossly inaccurate.

Bill O'Reilly called George Tiller "a baby killer" witho
Chet Lemon replied to spiderman's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (spiderman @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) • May 11: O'Reilly wondered whom Obama would nominate to the Supreme Court, saying that he thought Obama was "callous" when it came to abortion. "I mean, the guy puts Sebelius in as the health — you can't get a more fanatically — and that woman is proabortion," O'Reilly said. "She wants the babies done for. She supported Tiller the Baby Killer out there. So, enough with her." Nobody is 'proabortion.' O'Reilly is either extremely ignorant on this point or is trying to jack up indignation among his viewers. My guess is the latter. -
What if Wise requested that Ozzie played him only for away games? Didn't Ozzie try to avoid using Marte at home towards the end of '05 due to his interminable struggles and the fans' collective boos?

QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) It did work for: Buehrle Garland McCarthy And even McCarthy is debatable b/c I remember him performing better as a starter before they moved him to the pen in '06.

If it's Gobble that gets released, then I am going to really miss that guy.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 09:30 PM) Would you rather he hit .300 with 10 homers this year or .270 with 20 homers? I would like to see him hit .300 w/ 10 homers b/c generally good young hitters develop more power as they gain experience.

I'm not where most of you are yet, but if this team is 5 or more games out at the end of the month, would a firesale make sense? Would Tampa overpay to get one of our bullpen guys?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 03:19 PM) Could he just end a policy speech over here with a Bible verse? No. It might offend someone. I would prefer policy speeches to begin and end with facts and evidence. It is useful to quote a religion's text to show religious terrorists the betrayal of their own faith of which they claim to be defending. When speaking in Muslim countries where Muslim terrorists are cultivated, it is more useful to quote the Quran than the Bible to point out the terrorists' hypocrisy regarding their religion.
