The offense should kill tonight. Eaton's stats for the last four years--including this one--have been awful.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 08:38 AM) I'm sure someone has done a study...and that there is some statistical validity to the fact that players who come out of Latin America struggle more in the early months. Do you think it's coincidence Ramirez has looked atrocious in both April 08 and April 09? That Viciedo is struggling? Why does Contreras pitch much better in the heat of the summer? Are all of these complete coincidences lacking in statistical validity? In 2008, PK batted .217 pre-all star break and .270 post-all star break In 2007, PK had an April OPS of .657, a May OPS of .757, a June OPS of .957, a July OPS of 1.075 He's obviously had major struggles in the cold weather for two straight seasons, and he's not from Latin America. In 2008, Count had a combined 3.04 ERA for the months of Apr. and May. His combined ERA for the months of June and July was 7.73. In 2006, Count had a combined 1.97 ERA for the months of Apr. and May. His combined ERA for the months of June, July and August was 5.75. Yes, some years Count may pitch much better in the heat of summer and some years he will pitch much worse.

Great series win. White Sox blowouts will never get old for me.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) I know. It's always different, but then again, it wasn't a possible commander in chief lying his ass off about the troops trying to get elected because it was "popular" at the time, either. Perhaps when John Kerry comes up I'll wear a purple band aid on my ass, too. Pucker up! Again, I understand trashing Kerry, but why tarnish the Purple Heart? Why not go after the military for awarding Kerry? There are two ways it should go down when dealing with a decorated war veteran who you despise: 1. Criticize that person's offensive views/gaffes/speeches/etc. 2. Criticize the military for awarding that person (Kerry) who ostensibly does not deserve a Purple Heart, but a band-aid.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) I think the reason it's so stereotyped is John Kerry (our troops are raping in the middle of the night), John Murtha (our troops kill people for no reason), Harry Reid (the war is lost). I think that's enough. That's really "supporting the troops". To make this clear, Obama NEVER said these things - but his party did. At the 2004 RNC, delegates wore purple band-aids to diminish the Purple Heart award earned by Kerry. True, it was meant to diminish only Kerry's service, but the military awards wounded troops Purple Hearts. That is real support.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 10:21 AM) I STILL think he has at least a .260 bat in him, and for this team, with his defense and speed, that's more than fine. A .260 for (most likely) batting 9th in the order would also be excellent.

Edmonds>Pods>Wise>Owens. Edmonds wasn't on the radar? He could actually be an asset to the team if he started once or twice per week. And that career .954 OPS vs. RHP could come in handy as a pinch hitter facing a tough righty late in close games. What does Pods bring? Some speed, but nothing else.

Anybody else not feelin' the Hawk-Stoney combo
Chet Lemon replied to Wanne's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yea, the current TV combo is solid, but I would love to see Hawk replaced w/ Rooney. Rooney + Stone would be superb. -
Wise to DL with Separated Shoulder/Anderson to Start in CF
Chet Lemon replied to Jimmywins1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm on the sign-Edmonds bandwagon now. Like most, I like Anderson as the starting CF, but giving Edmonds a start one to two times per week would also be a nice idea all things considered. -
Beck is angry/sad b/c he is just another portly talking head.

4/7 Kansas City Royals @ Chicago White Sox 1:05 CDT - CSN
Chet Lemon replied to qwerty's topic in 2009 Season in Review
Anyone know if there is site that streams today's game for free? Thanks! -
This is awesome. Two weekends ago, I kept telling everyone the Sox were going to get Gobble b/c of their infatuation w/ the KC 'pen. Although I was saying that as a joke to make people laugh.

Roberts has been far more political than initially thought. He signed onto a dissent arguing for greater Federal authority to overrule the wishes of a states' voters in siding with Alberto Gonzales in '06. He has been a solid conservative politically, but not a judicial conservative.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 10:41 PM) Yes, they take your taxes and redistribute it to cops, and teachers, and highway workers, firefighters, and etc. etc. etc. Everyone wants to live in a first class country but pay third world tax rates. We should keep cops cuz they carry guns. All teachers are failing because they are paid by government and are union members. John Stossel and the libs at ABC tell me that all the time. My old man was highway worker, so they are cool. I only started liking firefighters when I bought my FDNY hat after 9/11.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) Also, you need to be careful how you measure "performance". Exactly, with the "how" being my chief gripe. If the "how" is using some kind of standardized testing system, then that will do nothing to improve "education" long-term. It may improve test scores as teachers will invariably teach to the test if the testing system is used to determine "merit" pay.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) A 12 year veteran career minor leaguer doesn't magically become good thanks to 17 March at bats. He's never shown the ability to be a competent major league regular let alone a leadoff hitter, 4 games worth of meaningless AB shouldn't earn him a job. He's a good baserunner with plus speed, a career .309 minor league OBP, below average defensive ability and a horrible BB/K ratio everywhere he's been, sounds like a bench player to me. Again, I'm not advocating Wise get the gig full time. With the players the team has, and the feeling of the current coaching/front office staff, I would give Wise the edge over Owens and Anderson. If Owens and/or Anderson outproduce Wise, then the younger guys need to be starting.
-
I have never cared for Wise, but hasn't he been getting the job done this spring? I haven't had much time to watch, but at this point, I would give the CF and leadoff job to Wise (until a better fit takes the job from him) and give Beckham the 2B job (again, until someone else takes it from him).

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 04:25 PM) How is Dean an idiot? He yelled during a campaign rally. Most people don't remember this because the liberal media hardly aired the huge incident.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) I agree with this. I sort of agreed with Republicans in principle on their opposition to it like you just said, but Bush's ban was too strict and it was annoying the hell out of me. It wasn't even that many Republicans were bringing the opposition. Lott, Burr, Hatch, McCain, etc. all supported funding. Bush vetoed that bill twice. Then, you saw a lot of those Republican Senators who opposed the funding get the boot from voters (e.g. Talent, DeWine, Allen, Sunnuu, etc).

QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 22, 2009 -> 07:18 PM) Eh, nevermind the blunt and borderline crass bit of reality there, but why on earth would he think Obama would nominate a conservative judge? Jim Bunning is not all there mentally. He was a great pitcher back in the day though.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 20, 2009 -> 07:36 AM) After he closes GTMO he's going to give all the terrorists there full pardons, then put them up in government housing and give them food stamps and other handouts. Mitt Romney = 2 for 2

The only monster here is Barack Obama, the same Barack Obama who wants to have the Iranian government over for tea. Carter was the same as Obama. Ronald Reagan would have stood tall against those bastards!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) I've gotten the impression that there's a decent number of Republicans in DC (Cao, for example) who agreed with either this bill or with the concept of a stimulus package of this magnitude, but the Republicans whipped very, very hard against this bill. They basically figured out what the Dems failed to realize on Iraq; if it goes well, they're screwed whether or not they support the package, if it goes poorly they're in much better shape if they said no. Excellent analysis
