I agree bashing Owens equates to beating a dead horse. However, mentioning the possibility that Owens could be starting was discarded as overreaction. That was a tenable response because of how early in the offseason that question was being asked. The question was not an overreaction in my view b/c Owens was supposed to start (anyone remember last spring training?) until he got Scotty Pod's syndrome, which paved the way for Quentin.

QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Nov 8, 2008 -> 08:55 AM) I like the idea of getting younger and faster, but wouldn't Owens be a horrible starting OF? PLEASE stop asking why!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) Glenn Beck's new show on Fox News debuts next Monday, on Martin Luther King Day, the day before Obama's inauguration. His first guest will be Sarah Palin. There's just so much that's wonderful in that statement for a Democrat that I had to put it in this thread. Awesomeness. A new show on Fox News? Why the hell is anyone other than Sean Hannity hosting it?

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 15, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) Where's the poll option for "Yeeeaaahhhhhh!!!!!" The mainstream media never really covered that due to their liberal bias, so most people forgot it happened.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) Someone on FOX yesterday actually said "I wonder what Joe the Plumber thinks about all this." True story. Joe the Plumber thinks that Israel is currently at war with Obama instead of Hamas because Obama is for the death of Israel. http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1032257.html -

This is what I didn't get about the newspaper and some TV coverage during the campaigns. When Obama was an underdog, the media asked "is he black enough??" then when he started beating Hillary, it was "why can't he win over working whites?" At that point, the only people ostensibly supporting him in the media's eyes were blacks and lazy people. -

I do not use marijuana, but I believe it should be legalized. Afterall, a joint is no more deleterious than a cigarette or the Hardee's Thickburger.

QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) And much to the despair of a few posters on the board... he is going to get a shot at the rotation in spring training. This is true. I guess as it stands right now the Sox have Richard, Marquez, Broadway, and Poreda in contention for two rotation spots.

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) Poreda probably won't be making the rotation at the start of 2009, anyway. Every article that I've seen has him either in AAA or the bullpen. Every article I read prior to the 2008 season had Ramirez in the minors and before the '07 season, Danks was projected the same. I wouldn't say it is likely Poreda makes the rotation to begin the season, but it is not impossible.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 07:02 PM) Just out of curiosity, why is it treated like a bad thing for those folks to act in favor of their constituents, when many of the Republicans who voted against the bailout plan and who will probably kill it in the Senate represent states that have major plants run by the other companies? Mitch McConnel's state I believe has a major Toyota plant IIIRC, for example. Yea, I was quite curious as to how the Republicans from Michigan would vote on this thing. So they are at long odds with their Senate counterparts.
-
Unsurprisingly, no member of the U.S. House from Michigan voted against the bailout.

I kind of like this because: 1. He won't resign 2. It is quicker than impeachment and trial by the Senate 3. It will remove Rod from office -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) Apparently Dick Durbin is calling for a special election... So kick one corrupt gov out of office, and pardon the other one? Ummm OK. Your rhetorical question is inaccurate because Durbin is calling for a commutation of Ryan's sentence. Gov. Thompson, Republican, has been lobbying hard for Ryan's commutation vis-a-vis his law firm. -

QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 10:03 AM) Louisiana- 10% lower What do these stats tell us about these 4 states, if anything at all? I'll take a stab at explaining Louisiana. After Katrina struck, many people from New Orleans have been displaced. Most of those displaced are black voters, and the plurality of Democratic voters for President in Louisiana are black.

I would like to see Tom Kean become Sec. of Homeland Security; no idea if he is interested though.

My understanding of this based on the campaign is that X (# of service hrs.) is required to receive Y (college scholarship or tax credits, or ???). Since Y (the incentive) will likely be a compromise between the Obama White House and the 111th Congress, it has not been placed on the change.gov site. At this point the incentives have not been determined, but requirements will be necessary to receive these incentives.
