  2. A lot of speculation that it will be Schock's district (Peoria, Jacksonville). The northwestern part will get merged with Schilling's, the southern and part of the west will go to Shimkus, and the eastern part will get merged with Johnson's.
  3. The vote has ended. 63 votes broke the filibuster.
  4. McCain got the last word on the floor before this vote. "You have Marines in Bethesda with no legs. You have men and women in Walter Reed with no limbs."
  5. I'm watching them debate this on the Senate floor now. McCain just got done speaking and said "soldiers will die" as a result of the repeal, and that "families with gold stars hanging on their windows in rural communities who don't go to elite schools will have to bear a greater sacrifice" than those who are in "liberal bastions" that are "high-fiving" now.

  7. My take is that Palin is to partisan Democrats as Obama is to partisan Republicans. Both are relatively hated in the eyes of their political opponents and both are publicly bashed ceaselessly by their partisan opponents. I will continue to follow what Obama does because he is President and running in '12, and will continue to follow Palin because she is the top prospect to win the nomination. Until she takes herself out of the running, any and all public attention will increase, which may be the plan all along. Milk the attention for another several months, then take yourself out of the running. Book sales, TV shows and a lucrative news commentary career can be well worth being your opponents's number 1 enemy for the next year.
  8. I'm saying it will be Palin/Thune or Palin/Rubio. She will win the Iowa Caucus and will easily win the South Carolina primary. The only real obstacle will come from a candidate who can win both New Hampshire and Nevada. In the last several contested primaries, no GOP candidate has secured the nomination without winning South Carolina.
  9. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:28 AM) Note to Kenny: No more players from losing organizations especially the Royals. You mean players like Teahen, Carrassco, Bukvich, Sisco, Gobble, MacDougal and Horacio Ramirez haven't been good for recent White Sox teams?
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) So the Sox should go by what he's done in the past, not this season? There's a reason he's being released. Pass. By that logic, the Sox should have stayed the hell away from Rios. Despite being bad, Hawpe's numbers this season are decidedly better than Kotsay/Jones.
  11. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 10:01 AM) I believe Cowley said on the Score recently that AJP and the organization are looking to go their separate ways after the year. Fine with me, unless he wants to sign a one-year deal for cheap.
  12. Maybe my thinking is too short-term, but I would be in favor of a managerial change if they miss out on the playoffs. Being outfoxed again by Gardenhire in the second half would be the last straw. If you can't be the Twins in the post-Santana era, sans Nathan and Morneau, then imagine next season when the Twins boost payroll and add quality vets. Conversely, if the Sox make the playoffs, I wouldn't be disappointed if Oz were offered a contract extension.
  13. Hawpe's career OPS+ is 116 and this has been his only "bad" season since '05. He would be an excellent fit as a DH and an occasional 1B because his numbers are better than Kotsay's across the board and his avg. is far better than Jones.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 09:32 AM) We're a 3rd of the way through August and still no bat. Is this the lineup we'll be using the rest of the way? "You go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time."
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 05:59 PM) So next time the Repubs find someone with no judicial experience, the Dems won't hold it up this time? The last time someone with no judicial experience was appointed to the Supreme Court, it was a Republican, and they were not held up.
  16. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 12:24 AM) Even when he throws a no-hitter he looks pretty unimpressive doing it. I don't think his no-hitter this year had anything to do w/ why KW made this trade.
  17. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) Again, this president INTENTIONALLY sat on his ass letting the oil destroy the coast, all so people like you would get pissed and call off all offshore drilling, all the while setting up to control a privately held company and an industry right with it. He definitely sat on his ass while BP was trying to save the coast and Obama basically told them to slow-walk because it was not part of his anti-offshore drilling agenda which he so conveniently came out for a few weeks earlier. Nothing like a good conspiracy.
  18. other unconventional possibilities: elizabeth warren ken salazar
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) John Ensign. David Vitter. Larry Craig. Eliot Spitzer. The governor in NJ a couple years ago. Any other examples from this decade? Gov. Mark Sanford
  20. I think the Republicans will make huge gains in the...House and two to three more gains in the Senate, but not enough to control either. In 2010, Republicans will have three tough House seats to defend (ex/ Kirk's, ex/ Castle's and Cao's) and they control a handful of the competitive seats in the Senate (MO, NH, OH, NC). I think that was the gist of what else I had written out.
  21. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 09:07 AM) No, we should just bow to them, sing kumbayah, and toast their efforts. After all, everything they do we caused it. Agreed. Obamaamamaobama annointed one is the bowing/singing wimp. We need real action like this:
  22. I think Delgado would be a very nice fit for the DH role.
  23. The Sox had their chances to get Granderson. It was called the 2002 Amateur Entry Draft.
  24. I think it would be great if Rooney replaced Hawk. Rooney and Stone would be an awesome combo.
  25. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) The only way of getting something decent is taking a bad contract on. Or maybe someone who has worn out his welcome. I'll probably get slammed for this but Milton Bradley has definitely worn out his welcome and is overpaid for 2 yrs All while still producing OBP (which we need) and could DH (we'll also have a need). Guys like Carl Everett can come here and no longer have to produce soundbites b/c Guillen takes up the media's attention etc This plus a Figgins would revamp the team into one that can draw a walk and thus makes our core guys run producers again. We need two new starting position players at least, and this way we'd contend in the present and do so relatively cheaply. Meanwhile the Cubs could do it b/c they can slash 10M in future payroll but keep Zambrano (who would be the most easily dealable guy they have i suppose). I'm sure Ricketts will want some maneuvering room to mold the team how his mgmt would want. From our end I'd suppose we'd have to sweeten w/ a midlevel prospect That is a good idea especially looking towards next year without Thome (probably). Bradley has a career OPS+ of 117 and Everett's career OPS+ was 109 going into the '05 season.
