Stone believes Roberts will be still be traded
Chet Lemon replied to GreatScott82's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would like to see Roberts traded to the Sox this season. Obviously, I would advise against giving up Fields in said trade. Maybe a package similar to Broadway, Cassel, Lujan, and Getz could do the trick, but I'm sure there would be better offers from other teams w/ superior farm systems. -
I believe that Fields' development will be expediated by getting regular playing time behind and against MLB pitching. Seeing AAA pitching provides him an opportunity to "develop," but it is not the same as playing with the big club. I'm resigned to the fact that barring a trade/ or injury, AAA is where he will remain.

Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal has endorsed Obama. http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jvzT8ke...64A_AwD8VPR9H00

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 11:04 PM) Sure, there is that possibility. As opposed to the probabilty of racism in the Obama household. obama should go on letterman and say via satellite: "i'm not a racist - that is what's so insane about this."

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Mar 24, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) ya, the bolded text is what she said in the interview it is what vera williams recalled. not a direct michelle obama quote.

I mean barring some injury to Owens or a trade, isn't he your starting CF? Of course I would love to see both Quentin and Anderson break camp w/ the team, but is it possible?
-
I suspect that there are two options for Anderson to start the season: 4th OF for the Sox or starting in AAA w/ the 4th OF spot going to Quentin. These look like the most likely options because Ozzie seems set on Swisher in LF, Owens in CF, and Dye in RF. Which of the two options do you believe benefit Anderson the most?

This taints the U.S. State Department. Two officials at the Department have been fired as a result.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 10:47 PM) He also said Ozuna looks like the starter opening day because of his success vs. Sabathia. Nice, so Ozzie's opening day, as of now, lineup would look something like this?: Ozuna 2B Ocab SS Fields DH Thome DH PK 1B Swisher LF JD RF Crede 3B AJ C Ramirez or Anderson or Owens CF

I'm watching the Yanks-Twins spring training game on espn right now. Heath Phillips came on to pitch the top of the third. He exhibited pin-point control on the corners and when he threw down the middle, his pitches really fell off the table. As a result, he has thus far gotten two grounds outs and one k. I never saw him pitch when he was w/ the Sox organization.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 27, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) Obama said he denounced Farrakhan's statements. not the guy himself. Russert followed up, asking if he rejected Farrakhan's support. Democrat Ohio Debate Transcript: You know, I have been very clear in my denunciations of him and his past statements. And I think that indicates to the American people what my stance is on those comments.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 21, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) Sorry, but I'm not buying that Obama secured any loose nuclear weapons. In my previous rejoinder, I obviously did not mean Lugar and Obama personally were securing weapons. Their legislation (Lugar-Obama) has effectively done that.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 06:31 PM) I'm glad the situation has improved and Obama did the right thing. If reading an article in the paper, then sending a guy out to solve problems that obviously needed attention is one of his big accomplishments, his campaign should be bragging about it. Also, off the top my head I know Obama-Coburn was successful in bringing unprecedented public transparency for Congressional earmarks by mandating the OMB release them to the public. In addition, Lugar-Obama secured lose nuclear weapons in Asia after the two were sent out on behalf of the Foreign Relations Committee to get that job done. I understand that you want to diminish the guy. That is quite alright with me. I've never pretended he's the most successful legislator running for higher office. It is a lie to label him as an unaccomplished Senator or some guy who merely throws out oratory. I would be hard-pressed to find a more prolific Senator in their first three years in office. Regarding McCain, can you name any of his legislative accomplishments in the last three years? four? The most recent one I can think of is McCain-Feingold, which you find illicit under the 1st Amendment. And the Federal Courts have been ruling parts of that legislation unconstitutional over the last few years.

Except it is not at all like that analogy. He wasn't just demanding things get better, he was able to get Nicholson, then VA Sec. to Illinois to face people in Illinois who wanted answers to problems that had been building way the hell before Obama was even a candidate for U.S. Senate. As a result of these meetings, conditions for Ill. Vets improved dramatically, specifically in the area of PTSD screening.
-
Weeks after being sworn in '05, Obama was lobbying to ameliorate life for Illinois Vets, who at the time ranked 50th out 52 in benefits. For example, a veteran in Puerto Rico would receive better treatment than one in Illinois. Improvements and federal attention materialized only a few months later as the VA Sec. came to Ill. and ordered more specialists there. It seems easier to bash the guy for not wearing a flag lapel-which does absolutely nothing to improve the life of a veteran-than actually giving out a modicum of credit for getting some bureaucrats to do their job. Here's a few archives if you want to pay and read about it. http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archiv...ackval=GooglePM http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archiv...ackval=GooglePM Who cares about that? Walter Reed thingy didn't get reported on until only last year. It only matters then.

I think it would be prudent for Obama to resign from the Senate if he wins the nomination. He should resign before the summer recess. By doing so, he could focus 100% on the campaign (not like he's not already), and his successor would be picked by a Democrat until a special election is held. If Obama does not win the Presidency, he could shift his focus to running for Ill. Gov. in 2010.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 11, 2008 -> 08:57 PM) from the article: Hutchison has had some disagreements with conservative Republicans. She's been criticized for her support of legalized abortions I do question the validity of that assertion from the writer of the article. Evidence: http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll...&vote=00337 She was one of 47 Senators who felt that Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided and should be overturned. Eh, I really don't know what the hell the far right wants. I wonder if McCain/Bauer would pass muster with those people.
-
Hutchison (R-TX) Endorses McCain I think this endorsement is particularly salient b/c she could be an ideal running mate for McCain to choose. She has publicly stated she is not seeking re-election in 2010, Texas has a solidly conservative Governor to name her successor, and she's a conservative woman that can balance the ticket a little more.

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox10.article I have criticized KW in the past, but I have never been one of the carping critics that now seem to grow in number every day. This quote really disappoints me though. The team having a chance is dependent on Contreras throwing the ball well? That is key? Maybe I am pessimistic, but I cannot see how that will happen. Granted, I think he will likely pitch very well for about a month; maybe he'll be the Cy Young candidate if the season ended in May. Based on the numbers/trends I have looked at, I do not see Contreras being able to handle the rigors of a full season.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 12:00 PM) So far he's used this speech to attack liberals, France, unions, "activist" judges, Harvard, and porn, and somehow linked porn to single-parent families. That is what I noticed too. His line that "tolerance of pornography" has lead to more children born out of wedlock won loud applause.

I'm an independent who does not hate her, and I don't even dislike her. The main negative I have of her in my own view is that she relies far too much on focus groups, one or two powerful advisers, etc.
