  1. Is Crede still close to going to the Brewers?
  2. QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Dec 1, 2007 -> 07:05 PM) Cabrera SS Scott LF * Thome DH Jones CF ** Konerko 1B Dye RF Pierzynski C Fields 3B Richar 2B lineup adjusted as pitching matchups dictate *acquisiton of Luke Scott in a deal involving Crede ** FA Cabrera SS Quentin RF Thome DH Jones* CF Konerko 1B Dye LF Pierzynski C Fields 3B Richar 2B that is my amended desired lineup in light of yesterday's trade
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 3, 2007 -> 09:34 PM) It's too bad we didn't make a run at Josh Hamilton, as the Reds might be talking to the Cubs about him. I have thought about the team acquiring Hamilton myself. Who do you think the team would have to give up? Broadway perhaps?
  4. Phelps has a career .344 OBP over 446 MLB games. Just throwing that one out there.
  5. I liked Capuano's '06 numbers, but those were likely an abberant.
  6. Cabrera SS Scott LF * Thome DH Jones CF ** Konerko 1B Dye RF Pierzynski C Fields 3B Richar 2B lineup adjusted as pitching matchups dictate *acquisiton of Luke Scott in a deal involving Crede ** FA
  7. Is Fukudome strictly a corner OF or would he be a viable option for CF?
  8. Perhaps Uribe could fetch Jays' reliever Casey Janssen? Then the bulllpen may look something like this: Jenks Linebrink Thornton Janssen Logan Wassermann Mac-expendable? thus opening a spot or two to be won in spring training (e.g. oneli perez)
  9. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 08:04 AM) Rudy's method for cutting spending - simply cutting all agency budgets by 5 to 10% - is counter-productive. That's why businesses don't do that unless they are going bankrupt or something. Think about what doing that would mean... for lousy agencies, they are STILL lousy, but with 10% less money to spend. For agencies that are providing critical services in a solid way, you just ensured that the people using those services will get 10% less of it. Its not exactly lose-lose, but I'd call it break even-lose. Instead, I'd rather see what Thompson recommended - via the OMB or consulting firms or whomever, target the agencies that are most wasteful. If they are SO wasteful that they fail entirely, just axe them (and, I'd add, perhaps re-think and re-implement the intended service via other methods). If they are somewhat wasteful, then clean house or cut budget. Don't penalize everyone for some people's failures. As I understood Rudy's response, he would limit gov't agencies by not having their vacancies filled as a result forthcoming retirements. That was in addition to spending cuts across-like Reagan-the board. Not that I necessarily accept that in full, but if you're courting conservative votes, how is that not a good response?
  10. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 07:38 PM) Ron Paul wants to get rid of the Department of Energy. Can't say I agree with that one. Smaller government is good, but energy policy by nature needs to be federal. A lot of people have view Paul as over-the-top extreme, which he mostly is, but Dole also promised to scrap the Dept. of Energy if he was elected in '96. My Dad, a DOE employee, ironically still voted for Dole b/c he hated Clinton. Rudy, I thought had a good response about how to cut federal programs.
  11. Anyone think that the Astros would be willing to make this deal w/ the Sox: Adam Russell + Joe Crede for Luke Scott? I'm just kind of messing around w/ LF trade options for next season.
  12. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Nov 28, 2007 -> 07:02 PM) We are talking about Contreras, Danks, AND another possible AAA baller. Try telling me that doesn't scare you a little. I have shared your sentiment as well since the Garland trade.
  13. I run more miles per week than I drive and I do not own lawn to cut. In all seriousness, any Presidential candidate to make the statement, "U.S. will be independent of foreign oil in 10 yrs." or similar commands my respect.
  14. I always liked Mackowiak, but I thought that he wasn't used effectively here. Bring him back if it is feasible.
  15. How are the man's outfielding skills? Could he become the '05 version of Ozuna?
  16. I would not advocate the team trade away its best pitching even for Cabrera/Crawford, who are two of my top 5 favorites in MLB. The rotation as is, has three significant question marks.
  17. I would like to see the team swing a trade for the Astros' OF Luke Scott.
  18. I wanted Freel last offseason. It will be interesting to see what they want for him.
  19. If anything, Richardson has his eyes on being Sec. of State in a Clinton administration. My feeling is that Obama is going to appoint several Republicans to his cabinet including Sec. of State, which I think will be offered to Republican Sen. Richard Lugar. I think Obama really believes in his rhetoric about ending the red v. blue divide business, but who knows.
  20. I cannot help but wonder if Garland could have been shipped to Philly for Bourn and minor league SS Jason Donald before the Lidge trade? It could have shored up our OF and give the team a SS to replace Uribe after the season. Maybe not.
  21. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 05:57 PM) I'm really hoping that Pods isn't back with us. But if we can't trade Crede for a leadoff hitter who can play LF, is KW really going to give that spot to Owens? No I can't see that happening myself. I too do not want, nor think Pods will be back. Regarding Crede, it raises the question: can Crede this offseason fetch a solid leadoff hitter/LF that is decidedly better than Owens in return?
  22. I too am hopeful this is part of a bigger deal. Contreras: he is solid, no injury problems ever Danks: so solid, no question marks there FLoyd: great stuff, pitched great, he should be a lock for the '08 rotation
  23. haha, i would rather have pods over pierre for that price, but pods is more fragile than glass.
  24. nice little endorsement for sen. obama that should help him in iowa: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2...nt_for_oba.html
