6/24 - Los Angeles Peg Entwistles @ Chicago Resurrection Marys - 7:10 pm, Paxton v. Crochet
But same people were still digging in their heels on it a few weeks ago = foolish. Same people were also giving Harold grief for sticking up for Maldonado (which I agree is also foolish) but today they won’t admit they were wrong on Crochet. Hmm

I said he looks like he could go 200. Didn’t say he will. Big difference bro. If I had to set the over/under today, I’d go with 150. Obviously that far exceeds your estimate from even just a few weeks ago..

Stone looking foolish too. Bottom line, Crochet making a lot of people look very foolish even those that were still doubting him a few weeks ago. It’s ok to admit you were very wrong.

Even if he dials it back, he’s still going to throw 150 innings this season. He’s making a lot of people on here look very foolish…

Unbelievable. And he makes it look easy. This dude looks like a he could toss 200 innings this season. He doesn’t even look tired.

Yea, I mean he’s almost up to the magical 100 inning threshold that I was told he couldn’t cross this season and he’s still pumping out 6 inning outings in his sleep.

I think there’s a valid argument for Crochet as the best SP in MLB right now. How do you even value that in the trade market for a guy that just turned 25 and has 2.5 years of super cheap control remaining?

Garrett having no trouble with this Dodgers offense. Not surprising for the second best pitcher in MLB this season.

Phillies have been scouting Kopech
I think Kopech sucks but this is a comically bad offer. Wtf would the Sox want Bote? He carries negative trade value and then the prospect is a 40 FV guy? Geez
-
Phillies have been scouting Kopech
That was exactly my point. If you can get a 45 FV prospect for Kopech and a 40 FV for Dejong I think that’s good.

Phillies have been scouting Kopech
Why? What do you think Kopech is worth? He sucks

Story on Sox trade possibilities...
2019 wasn’t Shirley’s and 2020 was only 5 rounds and they found Crochet, which that pick alone makes it a win.

Gilbert and Clifford

I agree. The jury is still out on Shirley. Just like the jury is still out on Getz even though many already have him pinned as worst GM in mlb. The early returns on Shirley drafts are encouraging though. I would think we could all agree on that at least?

9 fWAR in 2.5 season with the twins (~3.6 fWAR per season on average). Very good but he’s not a superstar. And Guardians have never signed a star free agent.

Story on Sox trade possibilities...
Sox latest rebuild started in 2023. So, yea, 2026/2027 is slightly aggressive (although I would argue the Orioles were already “competitive” in 2022) but 5 years from 2023 is 2028 so not crazy either.

Story on Sox trade possibilities...
Twins added a superstar that hasn’t played like a superstar with them. It’s not necessary (see Guardians).

Crochet and Robert will be traded. Presumably the prospects they’re traded for are significant mlb contributors by 2026/2027.

Story on Sox trade possibilities...
That’s the whole point. You don’t need a team full of stars. How many stars do the Guardians and Twins have in their everyday lineups? You need a couple stars and at least 4 or 5 other competent starters to compete in the AL Central. Shirley has had 4 drafts. His very first pick may have been the best pick in the entire draft. Cannon looks promising. A couple of his other picks are T50 mlb prospects. Several others are knocking at the door if they continue to progress. I’m encouraged by the last few drafts and I think they’ve developed a nice foundation to start from. It’s still going to take a few more drafts and several trades plus free agent signings to get competitive but I think they’ll be competitive by 2026/2027. Obviously, you disagree with that and in the camp of 2030+ along with many others. Let’s see how it plays out

Story on Sox trade possibilities...
The only reason he’s not a staple is because the owner is a penny pincher as he prepares the team for sale. Any other decent owner and he’s a fixture of their starting rotation for years considering he just turned 25 lol. Regardless, if he turns into a couple significant future mlb contributors via trade that’s still a success story for the organization. Whether or not they capitalize upon those future returns is something different altogether.
-
Story on Sox trade possibilities...
Well obviously. This is a different argument altogether. If the Sox suck at drafting and development, then nothing matters. But, they haven’t since Shirley took over (I’m sure you’ll find an asterisk for this statement as well).
-
Story on Sox trade possibilities...
Ah that’s right. For some reason I thought he started that game. Anyways, the only thing that stopped him that game was injury. He was electric. Oh and he was also a 1.4 fWAR relief pitcher the season after he was drafted. I think that qualifies as an mlb contributor. There isn’t a single player drafted ahead of Crochet that has had more mlb success than garrett or that I would prefer to have over garrett moving forward. He’s absolutely a success story, no asterisk needed.

I understand that and if all those guys suck the Sox will be in perpetual rebuild mode for years no matter what. It’s certainly possible. I don’t see it as the most likely outcome but apparently many do.
