Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
shipps replied to Southwest Sider's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) Depends how you define "disappoint". He could be disappointing but still be a solid player for multiple years. That's his upside. If it's Garcia-type upside and Moncada winds up sucking, everyone is fired. Even then Kopech may be better than Sale. A big maybe though. -

QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:35 PM) I probably haven't been this interested in the Sox in 5 years. The more its sinking in I also agree with this. Sad day but I am definitely interested to watch this team and they havent even finished adding young talent for us to watch grow. Keep it coming Hahn. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) I can't help but being disappointed. It's not even about the return. It's the fact that the greatest pitcher in the history of the White Sox and my favorite player is no longer on the team. I am with you. This may be what was needed but its still a sad day in my eyes. -

QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:16 AM) Mark Zuckerman @MarkZuckerman 6m6 minutes ago Sense here this morning is #WhiteSox are comfortable dragging out Sale talks, want to see if any other clubs can top #Nats offer. Yup. As they should but they still have to be careful that teams do not just move on because they have a larger scope to think about here. -

You have to get a bit more from the Redsox if its between the Nats/NL team and them. All things being equal you trade Sale to the NL over an AL team every time so you dont have to see him and your fanbase somewhat forgets about him. You can leverage that desire against the Redsox to validate more quality or quantity from what they are offering. Leverage anything and everything against everyone. Take no f***ing prisoners with this trade. -
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 04:21 PM) Because it gives him literally zero competitive advantage to share his plans or the team direction. None. OMG dude I understand that. It doesnt stop him from having a plan and being transparent with some things in the media. Other executives handle it well and still lose no competitive advantage. Maybe Hahn's biggest problem is that he has no tact. If that is all it is than everything will be forgiven after his awesome moves pan out.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) You think it makes sense for him to come out and say we plan on trading our most valuable assets for the best package we can get? That'd be dumb. I am being hard on him and took that statement out of context because he literally never has a concrete direction with any answer he ever gives.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 04:03 PM) Rick Hahn said there is no direct order to the teams trading plan. He did confirm that they have been very active in trade talks https://twitter.com/MLBBruceLevine/status/805893590090190848 Like usual, operating with no real conviction or methodically aligned plan.

I am now waiting for the first impatient "STOP SLEEPING HAHN!!!" post.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 02:00 PM) Why hire Haugh when you could just put a warm glass of milk on a stool in front of the mic and blow bubbles into it LOL so true, Haugh is terrible on so many levels. I dont think its Abbatacola though, I bet they bring in someone from the outside that would be more of an attention grabber. The Score looks for that most of the time.

So Terry Boers finally officially announced he will retire with the last show being January 5th. A really emotional farewell today I couldn't help but miss the guy already. It sounded like his future health is up in the air for whatever he is battling.

White Sox waiting for bigger offers on Sale
shipps replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 03:27 PM) Watch them wait for weeks and then not pull the trigger on anything. That would be so typical. ....and then get the haul they wanted after all the Sox fans that are left have blew a gasket and leaked all over themselves in anger. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) They've won one postseason game 2006-2016. They already do suck. What's another another 2-3 years, if there's a better path to winning with players that can actually play together for years at a time, and not just rely on luck and other teams having bad years? I know it's a risk to rebuild, but what they've done over the last 7-8 years has been an absolute failure. It's time they try to acquire assets upon assets, and make their own luck. Why cant this be done while still having a good season? They still get draft picks as far as I know. Look, if you dont trust the FO I get it. Most fans dont. But to wish the team does bad after their most significant trade of this rebuild seems faulty to me. They are still allowed to make trades as they go. I get bmags point about not trusting the FO to do this but damn, I trust that having a good season is never going to be a bad thing. I hope they do well and then build upon that not loosing sight of the plan. If they decide to go full rebuild and they suck I will trust that too. I am not going to be closed to any way they want to do this as long as they have a damn long term plan.
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) Honestly, I hope not. Trading Sale should be part of a true rebuild. They should be punting on 2017 and 2018, with the plan of being an interesting team by 2019, and a postseason team 2020-2023. See, I dont understand this logic. You dont want them to be better and have a good season next year? You do realize you dont HAVE TO SUCK for years to rebuild and just because you do doesnt ensure you will have a successful rebuild either, right? If they trade Sale and they happen to have a good year it may mean that they hit big on some talent that they brought over and the current group they had either played to their potential or made progress. Is that really that bad? Not every team has to do it the Cubs or Royals way to be successful.
