Awful Experience at Sox Park (Cellular Field)

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) I agree with you SS2K5, but can't we do something about this? What if we as a board posted some things about ballpark etiquette. Maybe this board can help educate the younger generation. We can't help the casual fan here, but we can help the younger ones and they can teach their friends. I am very shocked at the posts on this board and thought that our fans had more consideration for others. I guess I was wrong. You were wrong, but next time ask them politely to snuff out the smoke and wait for the play to end. Once somebody tells them they will learn. -
Awful Experience at Sox Park (Cellular Field)

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) Welcome to the 21st century SSI. People don't give up their seats for the elderly, cars drive in the leftlane at 50, people talk on cellphones at the movies, and not many people know what hockey rules are when it comes to seating areas at sporting events. This isn't a USCF thing, its an American society thing. It happens everywhere, everyday, and it isn't going to go away. People are inconsiderate of everyone but themselves. Well said, and something I really hate that is happening to the younger people. Problem is I am not that old and I see a huge difference in the way people are acting today than just 15 years ago. I make the vendors crouch down if they are in my way, or ask them nicely to wait. They do it all the time if I ask. Most are aware of the play but some are not. Common courtesy is lost today its a real shame. -
Awful Experience at Sox Park (Cellular Field)

QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 10:21 PM) I feel for you, but welcome to 2005. Fan consideration is at an all-time low. People walk in front of you when the game is going on ALL THE TIME. I ask them, as politely as I can, to wait until after the pitch. More often than not, they get bent out of shape. This is one big reason why quickman got his seats in the Club section, less pedestrian traffic and one would assume a better caliber of individual, i.e. people with consideration of others. Sadly, on Opening Day there was a guy who felt he could walk in and out of the aisle whenever he wanted to. Hockey games at the UC became so frustrating in this respect that it was a major factor in dropping tickets after our family had them for over 40 years. As for smoking around you, it happens but I have zero tolerance for it. I do not take matters into my own hands but I go and get an usher or security and insist they tell the person to stop smoking. Security will always take care of that. There is no way you should have to put up with smoking around you. Lastly, regarding the level of knowledge of the White Sox fan base ... there are a lot of casual fans there, for one. Second, there are tons of knowledgeable fans but that does not always translate to considerable knowledgeable fans. Sox PR and stadium management does a decent job with having the players do taped messages on the scoreboard, i.e. Konerko telling people not to throw stuff on the field, go on the field, and so on. They do need to do a better job educating the fan on Fan Etiquetter though. What is common sense to most is a major revelation to some f***tard who thinks rules don't apply to him. Good example, some person who insists on smoking in the seats, even after they hear the announcements and they know damn well they're not supposed to smoke in the seating area. Worse ... they get indignant when asked to put it out. Sadly, fans need to be told how to behave in many cases. To be very frank here, I do not find White Sox fans to be the most considerate or well behaved. I've been to many ballparks and Sox fans general simple courtesy is on the lower end. Of course, that is a generalization but I think I'm quite qualified to make it. But a big part of that is the casual fan at the ballpark, and the experienced fan not teaching them. My father taught me how to be a considerate fan a long time ago. I'm convinced that is where it starts and sadly, it doesn't always start there any more. Parents believe they paid big $$ for their kids to go to a game and the kids are running wild all over the place (see: bleacher seats). But the kids are not the worst, not by a long shot. And it's not just too much beer either. Unfortunately, quite a few fans are clueless about decorum and good behavior or should I say considerate behavior ... and they're ready to knock your block off when you point it out. End of rant. I feel badly for your negative experience. Unfortunately, it happens all too often. Wow nice post. Completely agree. Its usually the young people who create the problems. Sorry but its true. the rudeness is at an all time high, and most people expect you to adapt to them. When the club section gets bad i am going to the big green seats, when they get bad I am staying home. -
QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 02:57 PM) Sure, no problem, happy to clarify. Did not mean to hit you the wrong way. Quick on the other hand ... it's too easy, he gets annoyed at everything. I can see him winning the lottery ... "goddamned taxes, this is unbelieveable, what's with these taxes, there is no way these sonofab****es should get all this money, you know what I'm sayin', they're nuts, I'm tellin' ya, this lottery stuff is complete bulls***." Actually he is angry because he screwed up on Konerko getting traded (2 pitchers of beer for me), he screwed up on Gload being over 30 (I knew he was under 30, lunch at Bertucci's for me), and he screwed up on the Sox losing 2 of 3 to Seattle (they won 2 of 3, beers at the Skylark for me). I guess I would be crabby too if I kept losing wagers and kept thinking I was always right. Losing beer wagers is something I don't worry about. The tax issue is another thing.

QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) Trust me, you are overreacting. I was presenting another side and you and Terry were the two season ticketholders who came to mind. I didn't offend him and certainly didn't mean to offend you, I think you know me better than that. I am a season ticketholder for Bears and had Hawks and will probably jump back into Sox next year, I have the same frustrations about people b****ing about attendance but his real motive is because he is tired of people b****ing, and my intent was to alert him to the fact that what he's doing is b****ing as well. There you go offending steff again.

QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) You are still battling an O-fer, but it's not gotten up to your brain yet. Give it a few minutes. Ofer a long one and a quickman winner!

QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Stupidest thing you have posted in a long time, that takes into account a lot of dumb posts. Don't flatter yourself, you would get a mod job well before I would! You have hit a new low, even for you, I'm sure you are very proud LOL. Isn't there a game somewhere on some TV you should be watching??? and thats a quickman winner.

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) I once didn't have 2 nickels to rub together so I know what that's like.. however I don't agree that I am quick to call out "how many games do you go to" unless it's to people who DON'T go to the games. I know many here (some who have used our seats when we can't go.. and for free!!) are limited.. it's not them I b**** at. I see the other side clear.. and appreciate it. Steff, He is just taking the other side to rile me up. The guy sleeps all day and wakes occassionally to check the board and post the opposite of what I say even though he is tired of the same old bulls*** threads. He is being "accomodating" Jim symphathetic to the "entitlement" youth movement of today so one day he can be a mod on the board.

QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 12:34 AM) Another Instant Quickman Classic. The best part was "I don't even know why I am posting". You know exactly why you're posting, this kind of s*** pisses you off. Sox fans have been like this for years, yes, even way back when, when you were a poor guy living with your family on the NW side. People talked about attendance even then. Hell, I remember 1967 when the Sox were in it all the way until the last few days ... and they drew less than 1 million (look it up, I imagine you don't believe me). So ... you and I are out of the city and in an affluent suburb. And why do you think the demographic has changed, why do you think there isn't another generation of TQ's and Jim H's who are young kids with low funds? Sox fans have a chip on their shoulders, they always have. These kids have a chip on their shoulders about attendance, and you have a chip on your shoulder about young people yapping about attendance. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Nonetheless, your post is another Quickman Classic. It is "all you". When you complain about things White Sox, it means you care. Think about it ... it's the same story with these young people, they care. Better they are talking baseball than watching some stupid reality show. Did you just wake up from your nap? I am not insulting there passion as fans, I am tired of people b****ing about attendance but they are not going, or they wait until they find a pepsi can in the dumpster to get a deal, yet they complain that others don't go. its useless.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 12:06 AM) I'm SO sick of these caught-stealings. MAJOR rally killers. I'm all for moving on the basepaths Oz, but when guys keep getting mowed down, it's time to pull back on the throttle a little. I agree completely its almost like everyone has a green light. We need to be smart.

QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) Well, I wasn't aware that Orlando Hernandez got the win last night, for starters. Are you sure your not actually the ghost of Al lopez? Sorry couldn't resist.

Wasn't this in another thread? I think Tru was the one who said he always throws the ball back, and he doesn't care about giving it to kids and doesn't care what anyone thinks.

I don't even know why I am posting, if some of you guys would get out of school and get jobs maybe you can spend some money on games. In five years I expect all of you to have season tickets and quit complaining about the attendance. You sound like whining women. By the way all you students get some damn summer jobs and get to the park.i just love how the teenagers and out of towners post "come on people get to the park" yes I am bandstanding but I am tired of all you cheap asses. if you can't go watch it on TV and quit posting how the attendance sucks. Quiet frankly I like it when nobody is there. More park for me, and less rif raff Yea yea, I know its free country and I shouldn't pay attention if i am not positive, but really can't we be done with these threads.

QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 06:29 PM) Your seats are great, you sound just like the brides ... always looking for an upgrade. Always strive for the best Danielson

QUOTE(rangercal @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 02:25 PM) I will definately hold down one of those seats before the year is done (Ill probably be by myself cause all my buddies would probably be to ceap for that) Pot calling the Kettle Black
-
As a season ticket holder I am offered these seats if available for 125 a game but does not include food or drink. I will probably take them up on it for a few games. If they were 125 with food and drink I would be all over them. for a full season.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 12:21 PM) Not to mention that parking is included, and it is in a reserved area with a private entrance that takes you underneath the stadium directly to your seats without passing through the masses in the rest of the crowd. They might have a big price tag, but they are worth it if you can do it. Spoken like a guy who gets his seats for free.

QUOTE(Mrocks24 @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) Has anyone read this article that he put up on espn.com. I'm sure he doesn't know what he is talking about because he pays no attention to the sox and now he is an expert on our bullpen. His synopsis is correct, why do you think he doesn't know anything?

QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) Yes, true on Julie S. That was the issue that brought everything to a head. There were other behind the scenes issues. From what I understand she got along great with everyone behind the scenes but had particular trouble with a program director or two. From what I understand, she is very willing to stand on her principles and walk away, which is exactly what she did. Julie is studying to be a pastry chef, did a complete career change, she is working at a high end resteraunt in downtown chicago while working on her craft. she still talks to local whitesox media, i.e. Hawk especailly.

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) Good morning sunshine... Agree completely with you here.. Separate note don't you think Pods should have taken out maur on that tag up from third? You were right there, he tried to avoid maur inside of sliding into him cleats first. Hunter would have barreled our catcher. Just an observation.
