QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) And if you weren't so goddamned bullheaded about certain places, you would have been in several more. But nooooooooooooooooooooo ... We are stopping at Red Door, I want to see what they have on draft, have a taste for a good heifeweizen, hope they have one and not that Widmer crap. By the way, for the record ... Red Hook = Mediocre and overpriced. You can put it on the board, yes. the hook on tap doesn't bother me and neither does Blue moon on tap, your just an elitest, you need to be more like me..a man of the people. -

QUOTE(ptatc @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 08:12 PM) Put me in your category. I agree with everything you've said. That's why my seats are in the first row on the end. Nobody is in front of me and very few need me to move. If it degenerates into PBR and Blatz and death is not an option, I'll take Blatz. I once worked in a clinic that was part of the old Blatz Brewerey. Half of it was still the brewery the other half a clinic. It was very difficult to come back to work after lunch or go straight home. YESSSSSS, I love Blatz, favorite beer. -

QUOTE(ISF @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) I took my oldest to a couple games 2 years ago. You can't go into the bullpen bar with a 5 yr old. He'll be back to the Cell in 14 years. Math in Iowa must be different. You need to be 21 to drink in this state. -

QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 04:34 PM) I do not want to speak for ssi, so I will speak for myself. Personally, I am much more tolerant of little kids, I remember being a kid. I also remember my dad telling me to hang on until there was a stoppage in play, and then up we went to the bathroom. Not that hard. However, my dad felt it was more important to teach me about respecting and understanding other people's viewpoints vs. attending to my every need immediately. This is no knock on you or your 7 year old whatsoever. I don't have a problem with people walking in front of me when the game is going on ... once. If they keep doing it, I will say something. No one can tell me that telling a 7 year old to wait until after the batter is finished is a huge deal. There are different perspectives on this board and different perspectives in terms of what is considerate behavior and what isn't. No harm in that. By the same token, you and your 7 year old walk in front of me once when the game is going on, no problem. I understand there can be emergencies. Do it twice, I will nicely request that you please try to wait until after the batter is done to exit or enter the row. And hopefully I will not get verbal s*** thrown back at me, as so often happens. Example: last Sunday the wife and I were using quick's seats in the Club Level. A family of four sat behind us (mom, dad, two boys about ages 8 and 10). I'm sure they are a very nice family. The older boy had happy feet, and kept swinging his feet and kicking the back of my chair ... kick, kick, kick. I turned around to the father and asked, nicely I may add "are these your two boys?" He said "yeah, what's the problem?". I knew right then and there ... oh oh. This is a dad who thinks his kids can't do anything wrong. So I said "well, is there any way you can ask him to not kick the back of my chair, I would appreciate it." Said the mom "Jason, stop kicking". Said the dad at the same time as the mom "Sheesh ... what's the big deal, they're boys". I thanked the mom, and said to the dad, "No, I understand they're young, but kicking the back of the chair is annoying, I'd appreciate your help, that's all." He gave me a snarly look and gave me the evil eye every time he came back up the aisle for the rest of the game. Now, I understand 10 year old boys are antsy, and stuff like this happens in crowds. However, I was dismayed that this particular dad apparantly felt his kid could do no wrong, and everyone there at the ballpark should adapt to his kid. If the kid wanted to kick the back of my chair, too bad for me, I should just suck it up and let this kid kick the back of my chair for nine innings ... because, well, the father thought I should. To this I say ... bulls***. The kid kicked the chair once or twice the rest of the game, I am sure by accident, that was fine and I didn't say anything. I don't expect kids to be perfect angels, they are kids and it's a ballgame. However, when they are doing something which clearly is annoying or disruptive, I expect the parents to DO something about it, and not give me s*** for asking. Frankly, I shouldn't have to ask ... monitor the child's behavior. But maybe that's just me and I am in my 40's and my perspective is different. It is perfectly ok to have different levels of tolerance for certain behavior. But people should understand that by the time you have to ask someone to stop, the behavior has been going on for a while and it's disrupting my and my wife's enjoyment of the game. I certainly give people the benefit of the doubt, but when it continues I will say something, and I will say it nicely. Again, it's all about courtesy. Jim nice post, and let me add this. I brought my six year old (girl) to the game this year, she wanted to go to the bathroom and I told her to wait until the inning was over. She asked again and I told her not ask me again until the break. When the break happened, we went. She can hold it, its good practice. Now on to the kid kicking the chair, I maybe different than other fathers, but i actually pay attention when my children go to games or even when they sit on an airplane, they kick the seats they are told BY ME to knock it off. I also explain why I am telling them to knock it off. They do it again, and I take the seat behind them and start kicking it, so they know what it feels like. They don't like it, and they got the picture. They don't kick chairs anymore. its done. they will learn the right way because entitlements are earned in my family and kids whether they are 7 or 20 usually cannot survive without an adult caring for them and telling them what the hell to do. If the adults are s*** heads then I guess the kids will be as well. again common courtesy no matter where you are goes along way. -

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 01:35 PM) I am worried that Ozzie is taking the Sox fast start as his personal license to lash out at anyone he doesn't like. If the Sox were 4-12, he wouldn't be chirping like this. We are not going to win at the clip all year. He should chill out a bit. i don't know I think he is taking this thing with maggs a bit more personally because maggs is a fellow country man. I think, Ozzie is a hot head but this one seems personal to him. I will assume that Ozzie did everythign to convince the sox in keeping maggs, and he wants maggs to succeed. I think maggs should be the one to shut up. Its almost as if maggs is mad he is not a Whitesox anymore. It was his choosing for agents and team, nobody elses. -

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 01:32 PM) WAIT FOR A f***IN WHISTLE!!!!!!! as we used to say at Hawks games. I dont' know about end of inning or pitching change...you can usually walk to your seat and squat down till after the pitch....then get in there and be situated for the next pitch. You talk of viewing experience..well is it not the right of the person, who's god given right it is to piss and grab a beer, to go back to their seat to watch the game as well?? The fact is there is a right way and wrong way to do things. In between pitches is the right way. Requesting in between innnigs and you are hypocritically taking away a persons right to enjoy the game from their seat. A little education can prevent some of these problems. Make an announcement during the game or display it on the scoreboard. It will help some people, but others are just rude and won't change no matter what. As for smoking...if you tell an usher then I believe they kick them out or at least give them a warning. I respect your opinion, and I'm sorry you had such a terrible outing at the old ball park, but it kinda seems you were doing more fan watching then game watching. I know some things happened that got on your nerves...but for that to ruin your whole experience when the white sox swept the twinkies in a great game...then I think you were focusing on the wrong things there. i know you didn't post this to me, but a good rule is to wait until the batter completes the at bat. There is plenty of time to get to your seat in between batters. not that tough. I do it all the time. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 01:05 PM) Not to mention he throws like a crosseyed hunchback with a limp. horrible outfielder and did I ever mention that he will never be a starter? he will always be a bench player forever.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 12:22 PM) Lest we forget, Ozzie Guillen went out of his way to complement Magglio Ordonez before this series started. Magglio isn't even with his team for this series, but as usual, Magglio "they hurt my feelings" Ordonez STILL has more s*** to say. He actually had to go out of his way to attack Ozzie this time. Granted, I am not a big fan of Ozzie's big ass mouth, but he has every right to fire back when ignorance gets spewed about him. Hell Maggs is probably lucky he wasn't there or Ozzie would have killed him, all of the while Maggs cried for his mommy. Magglio Ordonez got $75 million to be a Detroit Tiger. He turned down every offer the Sox gave him, even after he was injured the Sox did not take their best offer off of the table for a considerable period of time. The Sox couldn't afford to wait for Maggs to make up his mind, like they did with Robin Ventura, and instead end up with an inferior player at a key position. Instead they changed their focus to making sure they had a team that could win in 2005. Kenny Williams was doing his job. I am not quite sure where Maggs thinks he was wronged in all of this, but once Maggs turned down their final offer, lied to the team, and refused to have his medical info shared with the team, what exactly did Maggs think the team was supposed to do? The only people who were wronged in this process were the fans of Maggs who thought he was a decent, honest, and friendly person. All of the People he suckered, who bought their Maggs jersies based on his warm smile and his act that he wasn't Sammy. Ordonez is a greedy self-absorbed scumbag, who karma is smashing over the head. Good for Ozzie. Let him set the record straight. Hell I hope Kenny Williams comes out next and lays out every detail of their dealings and lies from Magglio. Put it all out of the table. The Sox have tried for 6 months now to let this die. If Maggs doesn't want it to die, finish it-right here and right now. And finally, it is really sad when the ex-star Chicago right fielder who we all trashed for being a self-centered egotistical greedy prick, has said less about his old team, than the one we thought was Mr Nice-Guy. I'd say go to hell Maggs, but you already signed a 5 year deal to be a Detroit Tiger I feel as if I am having an effect on you -

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) Maybe when the Sox play the Tigers again, and if Maggs is even able to play. Will Ozzie have someone bean Maggs...just to get at him? It doesn't seem though Ozzie is willing to let it go either... That's a great idea, nothing better than backing him off the plate. -

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 12:13 PM) Will this drama never end?? Maggs quit your whiney ass f***ing crying and get over it already you greedy bastard!! He doesn't speak for 8 years when he is here but now he is one of the richest players and you can't shut this piece of s*** up. -

As I have posted emotionally many times I do not fall in love with players anymore. To me its about the team. I think Money, free agnecy and age have changed my thinking over the years. Therefore I don't care one bit about Magglio. I simply do not care whether the guy plays again. He was great while he was here, but he is gone , and now works for a division rival. Using one of his terms, he is now the enemy. I hope they find that he is faking his latest injury to keep his contract together to divert the real problem (the Knee). In fact being on the team he is on I hope the guy never touches a bat when the Tigers play the Whitesox. -
Larussa was clearly the best in my my time, but Chuck Tanner was my favorite.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 07:25 AM) The way I see this, there are three things that need to be addressed. 1. Education. Some people just don't know any better. A polite reminder or explanation early in a game might eliminate some frustration. 2. Common courtesy. A ballgame is a shared experience. In order to make it better for ALL, show a little consideration. 3. Tolerance. Don't get bent out of shape at everybody that breaks the ettiquit rules. You don't always know the whole equation. Someone my have a weak bladder and just can't sit there out of politeness. Common sense and common courtesy are uncommon. Editted to add: To the person that called Irish a stupid ass. You are a major part of the problem if that is your way of reacting to a request to be considerate of others. I think you said it best, if anyhting this thread is somewhat an education for everyone including me. net net.. just be aware of whats around you. I can always pick out the regulars at ballgames, for those that go occasionally and who are on this board, I simply request courtesy around you. Even though it is a ballpark and is open air, courtesy still applies.
