  1. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) That just sounds nasty.. slurp
  2. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) Yeah, I'm talking about the offseason f***ing nine games into the season, and during the offseason, I say how much I miss the regular season. :banghead I dunno, I think I'm being generous at saying $8 million. It all depends. If Kenny feels he can make significant improvements by having that extra $7-10 million to work with, than I say you let him walk. If he feels the FA market is bare, then maybe it's best to give Konerko his eight million. I just don't think he justifies getting such a big contract. He's 29 (IIRC) right now, and if you lock him up for three-four years at eight million per, I think that might really come back to bite ya in the third year. I just don't think he's worth that much. Then again, I've never been a huge fan of Konerko -- I like the guy, but he's never been one of my favorite players. Mine neither, he took the 2003 season from me. But we will keep him especially if he has a big year. 40 HR's is good, just plain good.
  3. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) Speaking of which, wouldn't it be better to put your better defensive player at 1B, in Gload? If he, in fact, does go with that lineup? I know they don't want Konerko to lose his touch, but, you have a (supposed) ground-ball pitcher in Garland going tonight, don't you want to give Jon the best chance to succeed? It may be null, anyways. I have a feeling Harris might be in CF tonight with Rowand in LF, he (Harris) has looked good at the plate in his limited action. You ahve a point, but is konerko a bad first baseman? I think he is average to above average. makes all the plays. Everyone has gload being a gold glove guy. Does he have a gold glove? Is he that much of a difference?
  4. QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) I think no one will allow a player to be better than their scouted "potential". If Crede hit .321 for the second half of this season, half this board would be ready to sign him to a multi-year deal. and the other half wouldn't. i would be in the other half. i want that lazy aloof piece of crap off my team.
  5. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 09:19 PM) I hope he hits .321 again and we have an embarassment of riches. He might DH tonite with Everett hurting. agreed I even want willie harris to play well when he is not getting picked off. Thats the type of guy I am. Hah
  6. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) Yeah, well, I don't necessarily think many GM's have looked at him, which is a mistake... Which will probably be turned into, "If many GM's haven't looked at him, why do you think he's so good?". I don't know why GM's haven't looked at him. He's hit everywhere he's been at, and plays above average defense. If he hits .240 this year, fine, he's a backup. But I don't see that happening, considering the lowest he's ever hit was .261 (he hit .258 and .194 in short stints, but that was less than 30 AB's). GMS's and scouts know about all the ball players. Dusty baker is the only guy that doesn't know ballplayers! really though everyone in baseball probably understands his ceiling and what he can do. He was a prospect for the Cubs and supposedly a good one. He fell off the map. now he is just a backup. thats all.
  7. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 09:16 PM) I also think they'll work something out with Frank Thomas. agreed Thomas will remain with the team.
  8. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) For 2.15. i would take him over crede today
  9. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) Which would be a terribly gross overpayment -- IMHO. You are right, but he will get it, from us or another team. I think us. I think Maggs is over paid, I think Beltran is over paid, hell I think most of these assholes are over paid. but he will get it.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) I think a team like Oakland would look at him if they didn't have Hatty, same with Minny if they didn't have Morneau. I dunno, everywhere he's gone, he's shown he can hit. Until he proves differently, why is he a bad player? And, I'm not saying we should just make a clean swap of Gload and Konerko. I'd only be for that if we upgraded elsewhere. I think Gload can put up a line of .270/.350, with 15 homers or so, and play much better defense than Konerko. And, as I said, Konerko isn't worth over eight million (IMHO -- maybe you think he is, maybe you don't), which is what he can ask for. I think all the teams with one phone call could have had gload. I do not think Kenny heard from anyone on Ross Gload. Nor will he.
  11. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) You think we are gonna give konerko ten million? You think konerko deserves ten million? Because he will get very close to that if he is even close to last year. I think knowing the market on first baseman and knwoing wahts out there he will get 10 million. Especially if he has another good year. And yes I think the sox will give it too him. No I don't think he is worth it, nor do I think Gload is good.
  12. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) By the way I say the odds are very good they re-sign Konerko anyway. The decision is made on Crede according to how he does this year. I doubt Josh Fields is ready until 2007 so they may have to bring in a stop gap if Crede doesn't get it done. the stop gap guy should have come this year in Joe randa whom I think signed for a million dollars. thats 500k more than crede. (I may be wrong on the salary but close enough) He is a good stop gap guy with some power who knows the A league. Not sayign he is great but he is a stop gap type of player. i agree I think Konerko signs with the sox for 10 million.
  13. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) Hmm, his stats say differently. Well, if you're gonna just ignore the stats, and believe in what your eyes told you, there's no point in debating this. Then he would be a starting first baseman for any team in this league. Which he is not. if your stats are so true then why hasn't a team wanted to trade for him and make him the next Mark Grace. Why has n't the sox just made him there first baseman and trade Konerko? I think the scouts don't think he can be an everyday excellent player. he will never make it. But you keep putting up those stats. s*** teams should be clamoring for this guy. he is cheap and can be as good as Mark grace.
  14. I am flabbergasted how everyone seems to think that Ross gload is an allstar. that is what you are doing comparing him to Grace and Olerud. I just cannot see this happening in anyway. This is another thread to save. Ross gload will never be a starting first baseman and if he is for this team, I will no longer participate in purchasing tickets. Please folks, we need to stop thinking small time. Look at our wins this year, if it was not for the home run we would be in last place, The home run won some games and brought us back into games. last night was a good example. Without Konerko's blast we would have been wiped out.Pitchers pitch different to power hitters. power hitters put fear in pitchers. Gload puts fear in nobody. PS we cannot be the twins. nobody can. Adding a power third baseman and keeping konerko would be the right thing to do, if you want to win.
  15. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) The problem though witesoxfan is that you are getting that production at a very big power position in MLB, and the rest of your lineup is now lacking in power. You have to somehow replace Konerko's power, or Gload is really a glaring weakness, no matter if he puts up "respectable" numbers or not. exactly.
  16. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) Also quick, to answer a question you asked earlier about Gload potentially starting at 1B next year...I personally would be perfectly happy with it, so long as you get another backup 1Bman in here who can be a good bat off the bench. If Gload can prove to be a .270/.350/.450 hitter over a full year, there is nothing wrong with it, especially for around $1 mill, considering you would end up paying $9 mill more for 100 more points of OPS out of Konerko, who is also slower and worse defensively. What would be even better is if Gload could prove to be like a .300/.380/.500 hitter, but I won't count on that ever. Wow we will really be turning into a punch and judy team. I was not a fan of konerko's I personally feel he singlehandedly costs us the 2003 season, but that aside we need his pop, we still need to hit HR's. Now that lee is gone, Everett is in his last year, thomas is in his last year, and dye is worth 25 homers healthy we cannot afford to lose the HR's that Konerko brings. Not saying we need to go back to the way we were but we do need to hit homers.
  17. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 08:13 PM) This is due to a phenomenon known as Quickus Crabbyum. It is a fairly common occurance, usually like a dreary rainy day or even 2 or 3. It is also sometimes called "Mule-like Subjectivity", a stubborness trait which accounts for why numbers mean something in one example, but not another. Under normal circumstances, this phenomenon ends when either a Pabst Blue Ribbon is placed in front of the afflicted individual, or if I am suddenly sucked off the face of the earth. stop it you hate gload too.
  18. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 08:06 PM) I guess one thing I don't understand is how someone can't like Gload. I am not sure I have ever seen him even talk to the media, let alone complain, he has produced everywhere he's been, he is clutch, and he plays 1B quite well. Reminds me a little of John Olerud or Mark Grace all around...and what is wrong with having a player like that? He's not the best guy out there, but he is a very solid player all around. I also do not see why someone puts out faceless bashing without even considering the numbers of certain players, yet then brings up how Dye has a .130 average against Piniero...if you are going to avoid numbers like Gload's, avoid all numbers period. I do not think Ross is olerud or Grace, Gload will always be a back up, even if Konerko leaves. We will not resolve anything today. Lets let the season play itself out. He may play again sunday. If the sox win the first two games, then Ozzie usually seals a loss with sending in his scrubs to play on the third day. Nothing like being satisfied winning two of three.
  19. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 07:55 PM) .304 minor league hitter seems pretty good to me. Lots of players either never get the chance or are stuck behind players. Just because he was passesd up by other teams does not mean he is not a good major league player. He will continue to do so evenif it is in limited at-bats. Well then I suppose we have our replacement for Konerko if he leaves. If that turns out to be the case I will indeed cancel my season tickets and watch games on TV, and complain about why people don't go to the games!
  20. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 07:48 PM) Because he was behind todd helton, grace and thomas/konerko. Well this is knoerko's last year, are you saying Gload should play first on a regular basis?
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) Wait ... is Konerko on the team still?? I will say this about Gload. I don't think he's gonna get as many at bats this year. I wonder how much of those nice stats came in September when it didn't really matter. Whatever ... I hope he contributes, he already has defensively. No he won't way too many left handed bats this year. Plus he will not (Should not) play the outfield.
  22. QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 07:44 PM) I don't mean to attack, but I remember finding him extremely clutch, as seen by those splits. I don't think your attacking, you raise a good defense. Lets wait and see this year. I don't think he is a great ballplayer. Not my choice.
  23. QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) Well, considering 2003 was his 1st taste of big league action, & last year was his 1st full year in the bigs without a defined role until late, I'm willing to be a bit more lenient. Now if he struggles like this for the entire year, then maybe you rethink his future with this team after the year ends. But he gets the benefit of the doubt for 2005. Fair enough, he bounced around for a reason.
  24. QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) Gload 2004 Splits. Runners On - .308/.369/.439 Scoring Position - .397/.465/.603 On Second - .421/.476/.737 On Third - .400/.400/.600 Bases Loaded - .615/.571/.692 Men On, 2 Out - .326/.431/.488 Man On Third, Lead Off Inning - .442/.478/.605 Scoring Posn, 2 Out - .360/.484/.600 Close And Late - .333/.395/.410 Which games were you watching? throw all the numbers you want. I hate the man. Lets wait until this year is over and he is batting 240. Nice stats though, you friends with juggernut? with these stats he should be playing instead of Konerko..right?
  25. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 15, 2005 -> 07:34 PM) Are still drinking in the suite in Mil? I don't know about this team winning it, but they aren't going to be out of it in July. i am actually better when I am drinking, which I won't be tonight! We have along way to go. Nice start but along way to go.
